Since Clemson is developing a new access control system, a request for proposal was necessary in order to select the best system for Clemson. As a result, I was given the task of developing a door catalog for the RFP. By utilizing my research and communication skills, I was able to catalog over 2,000 doors throughout Clemson’s campus. I gained essential knowledge about how to successfully establish, modify, and implement a plan for a major project. For instance, by working with the Facilities and Management Department and University Housing and Dining, I toured every building on Clemson’s campus with a blueprint in hand. After marking the blueprints for access control, I returned to each building to take pictures of every door I marked. Additionally, I developed a master spreadsheet that gave a each door a code based on its building number, floor, and number on the specific floor. The spreadsheet also indicated whether the door was existing or new and the kind of access control on each door. After I developed the master spreadsheet, compiled all the pictures and blueprints, I consolidated the information with the door catalog. By displaying all the information clearly, the vendors and university will be able to use the door catalog for the RFP as well as future projects. Professional Growth - Presented master spreadsheet and door catalog to colleagues. - Took on new challenges that developed my organizational and communication skills. - Developed a large scale, multi-step door catalog that tested my planning skills. - Effectively communicated with Administrators, Faculty, and Facilities to collect research. - Communicated with various universities to research their respective access control websites. - Manipulated and organized data to track the progress of an assignment. - Learned business etiquette throughout meetings with Project Teams. - Participated in open discussions with member of Tiger One and my mentor. - Designed a template to display information from Excel, Word, and iPhoto clearly. - Gained knowledge about the daily tasks and maintenance of the current access control system.
