  • YESTERDAY

Located in Casalvieri, a small town of the Ciocia-ria area in the province of Frosinone, Gemar is currently managed by Angelo and Genesio Rocca, respectively grandson and great-grandson of Angelo Rocca, who founded one of the first Italian companies in the field of balloon manufacturing, back in 1902.

    A CENTURY-OLD STORY

Angelo Rocca was very young when he migrated to Marseilles, France, where he started as a street vendor selling the balloons he bought from a small local factory. Back then, ballo-ons were filled with air and hydrogen. Angelo, who wanted more from life than being a mere street vendor, did all he could to learn the secrets of balloon manu-facturing, and discovered that they were made of a natural latex rubber, non-synthetic and unstable. Once he had acquired the technique, he decided to produce the balloons himself and to return to his homeland as an entrepreneur, putting his intuition to practice. He created a laboratory at home and began making the first balloons. His raw material, latex rubber, arrived from Malaysia in rolled-up sheets that Angelo would cut in two, overlap and glue together before hitting their edges with a hammer. This artisan process resulted in the ballo-ons. Production was of course limited to a handful of pieces a day, but the fame of the small Casalvie-ri laboratory soon spread all over Italy. In fact, Angelo would sell his products to clients from Sicily, Puglia and from northern Italy. As no efficient means of communication was available, buyers would show up at the laboratory in person to place an order, and sometimes were forced to sojourn in Casalvieri for several days until their order was ready. The artisan process continued for years, years marked by war and misery, but

Angelo stood his ground and overcame those hard times thanks to his persistence and strong will. After the war, production rapidly increased and included printing advertisement images on the balloons. The ink used at the time was aniline-based and the printing block was made of cherry wood. In the meanwhile, following Angelo Rocca's example, other citizens took up work in this field, cooperating with each other in an orga-nized entrepreneurship.

    THE ARRIVAL OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Angelo Rocca's entrepre-neurship was inherited by his son Genesio in the years following the war. The production process was still a craftsmanship, although the first images of the future company could already be glimpsed. Immediately after the war, the company, guided by the entrepreneur spirit of

Genesio, introduced new manufacturing proces-ses, including rubber vulcanization, a process discovered by Mr. Goodyear in 1839. Insisting with research, new working methodologies and new techniques, in 1970 Genesio finally took the

    with the contribution of:

  • definite step from artisan manufacturing to indu-strial production, installing the first automated production line and therefore producing a large number of balloons each day, with a remarkably superior quality.

INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENT AND THE BIRTH OF GEMAR.

Angelo Rocca, Genesio's son and the current direc-tor, was introduced early to the company and is the person behind the comple-tion of the company's indu-strial development and Gemar's birth. With Angelo, Gemar is now part of the international context in the field, and is gradual-ly climbing up the steps towards the worldwide leadership of balloon manufacturers. The prefer-red industrial process is the dipping method, that allows for better control of each phase and ensures final quality compared to other processes. Gemars balloons are produced in 4 types: pastel, crystal, metallic/pearlescent and fluorescent. Available in more than 70 colors and 30 shapes, they can be used in all commercial sectors, from street vendors to parties, from adver-tisement to balloon art.

    EUROPE'S NUMBER ONE COMPANY

Today Gemar specializes in the production and printing of latex balloons and is the first company

in Europe in terms of quantity and quality. Gemar's balloons are entirely produced in Italy, in full compliance with national and European envi-ronmental regulations. Very concerned with Corporate Social Responsibility, Gemar has perfectly integrated the strategic company vision and ethic issues, managing internal social impact problems as well as those involving the territory in which the company operates. Gemar has obtained the 100% MADE IN ITALY Certificate issued by the institution for the protection of Italian produ-

cers, which guarantees the true origin and quality of Italian products.

    TOMORROW

The first latex balloons were produced in Great Britain in 1847. Since then the product, the market and the technology have naturally taken giant steps. As we have seen, Gemar has played a main role in this evolution, establishing itself as a global company with know-how and strong propensity to marketing.

The creation of a global network adds value to the company's image, so that it is symmetrically identi-fied to the world of latex balloons and parties. Gemar is future-oriented, constantly committed with the trading of its products and with the research of new markets in which it can establish itself thanks to its peculiar abilities.

    ACCADEMIA DEL PALLONCINO ITALIANO

The need to transfer the acquired technical know-ledge and the fascination by the Italian style have led to the creation of the Italian Balloon Academy, Accademia del Palloncino Italiano. It is an asso-ciation whose purpose is to offer professional training courses and to preserve and diffuse the art of decoration using Gemar's unique Italian latex balloons. The starting point for anyone who wishes to approach balloon arts professionally, the Acca-demia transfers the indispensable cultural notions required to fine tune techniques and to provide new stimuli to one's own creativity, and is also an excel-lent research and improvement tool for anyone who is already a balloon artist.

  • 1. Inflate 5 modeling balloons D2 in red 45 and make a quintuplet. To facilitate the process of twisting we recommend leaving a small part of the balloon deflated so the air inside the balloon can move freely during the twisting or by deflating the balloon slightly before tying in order to make it soften it and thus reduce the risk of rupture.

    2. Make a PINCH TWIST on one of the five balloons, at the center of the cluster of the 5 balloons.

    3. Create a bubble of about 3 cm on the following balloon and insert a new modeling balloon D2.

    4. Continue by creating another bubble on the next balloon and join to the single balloon that was inserted in the previous step.

    5. Repeat the same operation on the third, fourth and fifth balloon.

    6. Close onto the first balloon and eliminate the balloon in excess.

    7. Repeat the same operation three more times. 8. At this point, add another 5 modeling balloons D2 to the composition, the base will now contain a total of 10 modeling balloons D2.

In this edition Gemar presents a "newcomer" to complete the wide range of latex balloons, the modeling balloon D2 (1x60").A balloon really "unique" for its qualities and endless versatility. To use and create with modeling balloons is relatively simple given that a few tips are followed when inflating the balloon prior to use such as leaving a small part of the balloon deflated in order to leave space of movement for the air inside the ballo-on during the multiple twists, or by slightly deflating the ballo-

on before its tied to make it softer, more versatile and reduce the risk of bursting.

  • 1. Insert the GS18 Stuffing Balloon onto the stuffing machine by stretching the neck open adapting to the size of the mouth of the machine and by fixing it to the ring of the machine

    2. Inflate the stuffer with the hose of the machine that has been connected to an electric inflator. Inflate until the balloon reaches the size of the plastic sphere.

    3. The GS18 Stuffing Balloon inflated correctly. At this stage it is possible to insert any object through the mouth of the balloon, the maximum dimension of the object cannot be larger than the mouth of the stuffing machine.

    4. Inflate 12 A50 13cm/5 balloons and insert the balloons into the GS18 Stuffing Balloon.

    5. Disconnect the GS18 stuffing balloon from the ring of the stuffing machine very quickly and by twisting the neck in order to avoid any loss of air during this procedure. At the same time open the sphere of the machine to release the balloon.

    6. Seal the balloon with a knot. 7. Cover the neck with a cluster of 6 A50 13cm/5 balloons, twist the cluster over the neck.

    8. To make the star shape inflate a D2 modeling balloon with a pump, inflate the balloon with 5 pumps of air. Make a pinch & twist of about 2cm.

9 Make a torsion about 10 cm away from the pinch & twist.

    10. Make three bubbles and intertwine them. 11. Make another torsion at about 10cm, make 2 bubbles and twist.

    12. Repeat the procedure for five times throughout the entire length of the D2 modeling balloon. If 1 balloon is not sufficient connect another D2 modeling balloon to the first in order to finish the sequence. To make the star you will need 10 segments as those illustrated in the photo.

    13. To make the centre of the star inflate another D2 modeling balloon with 5 pumps of air. Pinch & twist about 2cm and continue with another pinch & twist at about 20cm away from the first. Continue in this sequence in order to create 5 pinch & twists.

  • A Blooming Arch of Daisy Flowers

    del PALLONCINO ITALIANOACCADEMIA

The modeling balloon D2 is a versatile product for decoration with which it is possible to create parti-cular shapes and forms that cannot be achieved with conventional balloons. To use modeling balloons is quite simple but a few recommenda-tions should be followed such as leaving a small

part of the modeling balloon deflated to leave room for the air to move inside the balloon while the balloon is twisted and manipulated as well as to deflate the balloon slightly before tying so as to make it more soft and ductile thus reducing the risk of breakage.ebdluohssnoit

  • The Heart of Love

    del PALLONCINO ITALIANOACCADEMIA

A heart symbolizes love always. It is often given to the loved one who receives it and has always been a strong emotion. It is a beautiful way to highlight the important moments that life offers. This decoration is extremely flexi-ble, by using different colours of balloons this backdrop is ideal for marriages, to create a romantic setting or to create a pendant in the center of a ballroom. In Italy is it also a custom for religious ceremonies.

This months proposal has been created with the use of a frame and small CR6 heart shape balloons instead of standard round balloons that really emphasize the meaning of the Heart and that also create a greater three dimensional impact.
