About Us Awach Sare Community Based Organisation for Health

Initiatives (ACBOHI) is a youthled initiative formed by young

people of Rachuonyo North District in 2008, and was registered

in 2010. ACBOHI project started as health rehabilitation CBO.

The CBO has been known for peer education as strategy for

BCC but has since then increased its development initiatives tocover youth empowerment initiatives, food security,

environmental rehabilitation, other HIV/AIDS interventions like

care, water and sanitation, gender equity, and disaster

mitigation. It provides beneficiaries with an outlet for their

enthusiasm for positive life and for therapeutic activities and

other opportunities despite adversity of life. Currently the CBO

partners with CREPP to implement a food security project in the

region by promoting improved cassava species. ACBOHI is a

non-partisan, non-religious organization run on voluntary basis

with a trained management on issues of governance, project

management and comprehensive HIV prevention and care.

    Situational analysis.

Economically the area relies heavily on piecemealagriculture, nocturnal fishing in small scale as the

catchment is found along the shore, small and micro

The region regularly face drought, unreliable and

unpredictable rainfall with most parts of the area

being sandy soil resulting to inadequate harvests by

    farmers.

HIV/AIDS pandemic has set a humanitarian and

developmental crisis of unprecedented proportions inthe project area

Poverty in unmatched proportions interwoven with

illiteracy due to inaccessible unaffordable and poor

    learning infrastructures
