BCMentors Sponsors Two Wyandotte Elementary School FIRST Lego League Teams

First off, what is Lego League? The students on these teams have to build a robot that accomplishes certain missions and also complete a research project. The BCM department at Purdue seems to be a well-kept secret from incoming freshmen and current university students. To combat this BCMentors devotes a great deal of effort to spread the word to high school students about the BCM Department and the support offered by Mentors to current students in need. Adam Ashouri and Andy Harrison are co-recruitment chairs for Mentors this year and have a busy schedule this semester.

Thank You!Thank You!Thank You! BCMentors would like to thank Black & Veatch for their generous donation and support for

the program. It’s through the support of our industry sponsors that BCMentors can succeed!

Students who attend BCMentors also love to have fun. The social committee in charge of hosting outings, organizing intermural leagues, and philanthropic efforts. Something new that we’re doing this year is having a dinner outing every week, at different restau-rants around campus, as a way for BCM students to take a break from our studies and go out and socialize. The semester schedule is on the reverse side.

Another thing we do to take a break from school work is in-tramurals. This semester we are doing basketball, indoor volleyball, and a dodgeball tournament. Everyone is welcomed to sign up and if you are interested in playing please contact Evan Elliot, [email protected], or Derrek Staley, [email protected].

As BCMentors is an extracurricular organization, we are always looking for ways to become more involved within our community. One of our biggest involvements is with Almost Home Humane Society out of Lafayette. In the past BCMentors has helped partake in the reconstruction of some of its facilities, while always making time to play with the animals. This year we have many projects lined up, such as: dog kennel reconstruction, bathroom plumbing, rebuilding an exhaust system, and re-insulating particular rooms throughout the complete facility. Our past achievements with Almost Home are due to helpful students and generous donations from outside organizations. The key to BCMentor’s success is students and organizations like you, so if you have the time we are always looking for ways to improve our community!
