IB, A Level, BTEC & GCSE Results
> In terms of academic achievement, 2017 was another outstanding year.
> At GCSE, 85% of all grades were at A* or A, our second highest performance ever. Over half of all
GCSE grades achieved were at A*.
> 22 pupils in the Upper Fifth Form achieved a clean sweep of A* grades. In total, 92 boys achieved all
A*/A grades in their GCSE examinations.
> In the Upper Sixth Form, results in the International Baccalaureate were outstanding. Our average
points total of 39.7 out of 45 is the best in the country for an all-boys school.
> 83% of all grades awarded in the IB were 6 or 7 (the highest possible). Milo Basak Whitbread and
Luke Hatteland-Dunn achieved the rare feat of gaining a perfect score of 45 out of 45. Over half of
the boys in the cohort scored 40 points or more.
> The A*-B rate for A Level was 88%. 44 pupils achieved straight A*/A grades. The A*-B rate for A Level
and the IB Diploma combined was 89%.
> There was tremendous success in gaining places at top universities, including 31 to Oxford,
Cambridge and London Universities combined. In all, over 70% of boys secured admission to their
first-choice university, mostly at Russell Group universities.
> ResultsintheExtendedProjectQualificationwereexcellent.Researchtopicsrangedwidelyfrom
‘To what extent is Obama’s America post-racial?’ to ‘The relationship between the political and the
personal in the life and works of Graham Greene’.
> 54 pupils in the Upper Fifth Form completed the challenging Additional Mathematics qualification,
with 42 obtaining the top grade.

BTEC National Diploma
> Seven boys completed the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science in 2017, with Will
Ward achieving D*D*D* and Jumal Nelson achieving DDD.
> Six boys gained the Level 3 Extended Diploma (18 units) in Business, with four achieving D*D*D*
and the remainder with D*DD and D*D*D. Cameron Wilkins, Henry Burnett and James Culff
achieved the maximum points possible in every unit. One boy gained the Level 3 Diploma (12 units),
achieving D*D*, and a further five boys completed the Subsidiary Diploma (six units), achieving D*.
STEM Subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
> Senior Mathematics Challenge: 8 gold, 31 silver and 30 bronze awards. Six pupils qualified for the
Senior Kangaroo paper, with four achieving a merit.
> Intermediate Mathematics Challenge: 17 gold, 38 silver and 28 bronze awards. 19 boys qualified
for further rounds, with Anant Gupta coming in the top 10 in the country and being awarded a
Distinction and medal for the Intermediate Maths Olympiad.
> Junior Mathematics Challenge: 21 gold, 33 silver and 41 bronze awards. Eight pupils qualified for
further rounds. Martin von Domselaar and Mikaeel Toosy achieved a merit in the Junior Olympiad
paper, and Kai Lam came in the top 50 for the second year in a row, achieving a Distinction along
with a silver medal and book prize.
> Hans Woyda Maths Competition for London Schools: Whitgift beat Trinity, Caterham and
Woldingham to win their group. They went on to defeat Dulwich, before losing to Hampton, the
eventual winners of the Southern knockout section.
> Sixth Form RSC Chemistry Olympiad: 2 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze awards.
> Cambridge Chemistry Challenge: Shintaro Nishijo achieved a gold award and Cyrus Hung a bronze.
> Lower Fifth Form Biology Challenge: 8 gold, 24 silver and 18 bronze awards.
> Sixth Form Biology Olympiad: 1 gold (Mark Lord), 4 silver and 2 bronze awards.
> BritishPhysicsOlympiad:fiveboysachievedawardsincludingsilversforJunTakeuchiandArchieCoomber.
> Physics GCSE Challenge: Ben Peard achieved a gold award, Euan Pringle a silver and there were 22
bronze awards.

Languages highlights
> Four pupils have been accepted to read Modern Languages at Oxford.
> 27 students achieved A* grades in two languages and three students attained A* grades in three
languages.
> 38% of our Upper Sixth Formers gained an A Level (or equivalent qualification) in a modern
language.
> Rhys Crossman made it into the finals of the Nihongo-cup Japanese speech contest held at the
Japanese Embassy.
> Nathan Carême-Hans was awarded First Prize in the Secondary School category of the French Prix du jeune journaliste.
> Ilia Sadeghipour won the regional Spanish Spelling Bee competition for London.
> Michael Dohnji chose to write his IB extended essay on traditional Chinese culture entirely in
Mandarin Chinese, achieving a top grade.
> 67 Lower Sixth Form pupils entered the challenging UK Linguistics Olympiad. Five pupils attained
bronze awards, one pupil (Mana Bawa) attained a silver, and one pupil (Max Anderson) achieved the
prestigious gold award.
Other successes
> In his Theology and Philosophy GCSE, Ben Peard managed to score full marks on every one of his four
papers, a remarkable achievement in this subject.
> Debating goes from strength to strength. Fifth Formers Alex Carpenter and Issac Fung qualified for
the Finals Days of both the Oxford and Cambridge Schools Debating Competitions 2017.
