NOTIFICATION

Subject: End Term Examination (ETE) of Autumn Semester 2020-21 for UG 1st year

On the recommendation of IAPC (97th meeting, under Item No. 97.2.1), the

Chairman, Senate has approved the proposal to conduct End Term Examination (ETE) of

Autumn Semester 2020-21 for UG 1st year in online mode.

The approved proposal is attached as Appendix-A.

Appendix-A

Revised Plan for ETE Autumn Semester (2020-2021) UG I Year

As per the Semester Completion Plan for the Autumn Sem 2020-21, the UG I year students are supposed to return to the campus between Feb 01 to Feb 04, 2021 to

appear in the conventional End Term Examination (ETE) w.e.f Mar 08 to Mar 15, 2021. There is also the provision for 15 days of practical sessions before the ETE after the return of the students to the campus.

However, due to the pandemic, it is not feasible to allow students to the campus in the month of Feb/Mar. 2021. Therefore, the need is felt to revisit the calendar to plan for

the completion of the said semester. The proposed revision in the plan is as under: -

1. Online examination is the most suitable option available for conducting the End Term Examinations due in Mar 2021. Depending on the size of the class, the nature of the course contents, and the views of the students registered in a course,

the course instructor may decide the choice of platform, application, mode of ETE etc.

2. The duration of examination should be minimum of two hours and maximum of three hours. The ETE to be conducted as per the declared schedule w.e.f. Mar 08

to Mar 15, 2021.

3. No change in the already declared weightages (CWS including practical if any: 50-

60% and ETE: 40-50%). None of the components of evaluation will have the weightage for attendance as the requirement of attendance was waived off during

this semester. If desired to conduct viva-voce, it should be part of CWS and to be announced in advance by the faculty member.

4. Although many lab courses were shifted to the spring semester, if some lab-oriented course is running this semester, it can be completed using online methods/demonstrations, viva-voce, written examination etc. However, if there is

a field/lab course which may be difficult to complete meaningfully using only online tools, the concerned department should approach IAPC for a solution.

5. If a student feels the need, she/he is free to take the help of any institute or entity

in his/her neighbourhood for taking the examinations. The students facing

serious network problem/lack of facility for ETE may request to the DoSW, IIT Roorkee for providing accommodation at Greater Noida/ Saharanpur Campus.

6. The last date to submit the remaining documents to be extended till Feb 28, 2021.

7. The duration for ‘Practical Sessions’ will be treated as ‘Practical Sessions in online mode’.

SEMESTER PLAN AUTUMN 2020-21 FOR UG 1ST YR

1. The registration for all the students will be carried out in online mode.

2. Entire teaching will be carried out in online mode. Time-table for the semester would be prepared as usual. The

lecture and tutorial slots in the time-table will be used for live sessions with the students. These sessions may be used

for live lectures, tutorials, doubt clearing sessions etc. as per the needs of the course contents and choice of the faculty,

so as to ensure the best possible e-learning of the students. To achieve the learning objectives and the assessment

requirements of different courses, assistance of TAs can be taken in all the courses.

3. Mid-term examinations will not be conducted. Instead, continuous assessment will be carried out in the form of

assignments, quizzes, mini-projects, viva-voce etc.

4. Students will be allowed in the campus between Feb 01 to Feb 04, 2021.

5. There would be conventional end-term examinations after the return of the students to the campus.

6. There would be provision for 15 days of practical sessions before the ETE after the return of the students to the

campus.

7. The weightages of course components will be: CWS: 50–60 % (including practical, if any) and ETE: 40–50 %.

8. Attendance rule is suspended this semester.

9. The Academic Calendar for UG 1st Yr Autumn Semester 2020-21 will be as given in Appendix-A.
