Abul Ala Maududi has written a critical account of Muslim history from the
transformation of Caliphate to the kingship. Although the piece of writing hurts the
religious sensitivities that provoked many orthodox Muslims, yet in historical context it
provides a comprehension to understand vicissitudes and faults that transformed the
Caliphate into kingship after the four rightly guided Caliphs. He presented a systematic
version of various phases of the transformation of Caliphate into kingship during the
period of the last two rightly guided Caliphs. Madudi view opened a new challenge to
assertion the authenticity of his work in the light of other which encountered it. His
position in academic fields is recognized in the whole Muslim world. The key questions
will discuss in the paper are, what are the bases on which Madudui developed his view
pointes? What is the position of other scholars on Madudi views? Why his work
challenged by the other scholars? How far authenticity existed in the Maududi views and
his interpretation of the phenomenon? The stand point of Madudi of the conversion of the
Caliphate into Kingship in which he surpassed some historical factors while taking
account also concern of this paper.
