ABU TALIB – THE BENEFACTOR OF ISLAM: THE FIRST VICTIM OF THE TAKFIRI CONSPIRACY By Dr Mahmood Y. Abdullah © It is in human nature that people like to preserve the memory of their ancestors and protect it pricelessly. Had it not been so, then the old cemetery of Makkah, Maqbarat al-Quraysh (the graveyard of Quraysh, would not have survived to this day. In its tranquil atmosphere, the great-grandfathers of the Prophet, including his uncle Abū Ṭālib, sleep in peace. His grave survives until this day when there is no trace of the graves of those who fabricated hadiīths against him, claiming that he had died a polytheist and that he will burn in Hell (na‘oozobillah)! Millions of pilgrims send their salutations to the great-grandfathers of the Prophet, ignoring the envious and malicious people, who, after so many centuries, are still burning with jibes and jealousy because of the superior human qualities that the noble ancestors of the Prophet enjoyed. It is not the fault of Abū Ṭālib that their own envious ancestors had never enjoyed these qualities. Even today, the pilgrims are attracted towards the graveyard which was visited by the Prophet himself. They target Abū Ṭālib, the uncle of the Prophet, who loved the Prophet most dearly and protected him at all cost, even by putting his own sons in the mouth of danger. Abū Ṭālib stood like a strong fort in protecting the Prophet from the harm that the Quraysh, the ancestor of the Takfiris, sought to inflict upon him and his religion. As a gesture of ingratitude, an Arabic satellite TV channel, run by the Nasibites and Kharijites of our time pours its rage against Abū Ṭālib and abuses him, claiming that he died a “kāfir” (pagan) and “mushrik” (polytheist)! What good can be expected from these people who have openly declared their animosity through their media war against the ancestors and the progeny of the noble Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny)? One may ask: Why all this hatred and malice against the righteous souls (?) whose nobility and magnanimity are well documented and recognised in history. There was nobility in their characters at a time when the forefathers of their adversaries were burying their baby daughters alive and committing robberies and other vices. Yet, on the same TV channel, a takfiri radical cleric proudly declares: “We do not love Abū Ṭālib”! Despite all their distortions and lies, they cannot find a weakest episode in history to character-assassinate Abū Ṭālib, which they would have loved to do. In order to be able to love the great benefactor of Islam, which the devoted uncle of the Prophet was, one has to have nobility in his blood. By declaring to the viewers that they do not love Abū Ṭālib, the cleric on the programme was exposing his ingratitude and mean nature. With unprecedented bravery, dedication and love for the Prophet, Abū Ṭālib suffered social boycotts, calamities and hardships until the last breath of his life. This is the price that Abū Ṭālib and his family had to pay, and are paying up to this day, for protecting the Prophet by all the means possible and thwarting the conspiracies of the enemies of Islam. But those who are suffering from grudges against the ancestors and the holy Household of the Prophet, demonstrate their jibes against the noble and righteous souls, but not against the arch-enemies of Islam, simply because they share a common ancestry. The battle of Badr, the very first battle fought by the fledgling Muslim community against the powerful clan of Quraysh, where Banū Umayyah were in the forefronts of aggression, is being avenged up to this day by their followers. This revenge will continue until the day of Judgement. They do not love Abū Ṭālib simply because he was the father of Imam ‘Ali ibn Abi Ṭālib, who fought bravely and selflessly for protecting the Prophet and His Message, against the nearest kin of Mu‘āwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān, the Caesar and the first Monarch of the Arabs. Imam Ali did not care that on that fateful day of Badr, he was making enemy with the aristocrats of Quraysh, for which, his sons, daughters, grandchildren and the noble progeny of the Prophet

Suffice it to say that Allāhbestowed a great honour upon Abū Ṭālib for choosing him to be the Prophet’s guardian, protector anddevotee in themost trying and dangerous circumstances in the Prophet’s life. As the Prophet never actsagainstAllāh’swill according to theQur’ān, the love of theProphet forAbūṬālibwas incompliancewithAllāh’swill.Hence, the radical clerics’opendeclaration that theyhateAbūṬālib isa revoltand treacheryagainst Allāh and His Messenger. If he did not believe in theMessage that theProphet brought, whywould hesufferthethrongsofhungerandseehisfamilymembers, includingchildren, sufferthetorturouseffectsofsocial boycott and the ban on all the dealingswith him andhis clan for three long yearsbyQuraysh?Hecould have segregated himself and joined the Quraysh, like his half-brother Abū Lahab, who remained astaunchenemyoftheProphetuntiltheend.Oratleastonce, throughoutthisperiodofhardshipandagony,he could have protested to the Quraysh that why are they levying such boycotts and putting him intohardshipswhenheisnotevenabelieverintheProphet’sMission.Thereisnoevidenceinhistorysuggestingthat.Onthecontrary,hebravelyfaced,andlateron,hisentireprogenyfacedcalamitiesforthesakeoftheProphet’sMission.EventhehistorywrittenbyBanūUmayyahandBanū‘AbbāsconfessesthatFātimābintAsad,thewifeofAbūṬālib,wasamongtheearliestconvertstoIslām.FromtheviewpointofAbūṬālib,itisnotconceivablethathewould have accepted his own spouse, with whom he lived happily, being committed to the religion sodifferent from his own. From the perspective of the Law of the Shari‘ahwhich considers thematrimonybetween a pagan and aMuslim to be invalid, it is not conceivable that the Prophetwould have adopteddouble-standards by allowing thismatrimony to continue.
