    ABSTRACTSince 1852 several floods occurred in the Itaja-A River and the memory of thepeople and public officials about the critical events on floods seems to dissipate overtime. The population fails to consider the risk and the lack of space planning and thegovernment allows the occupation occurs with significant losses as consequences.In November 2008, particularly in the Vale do Itaja Santa Catarina state, southernBrazil, was hit by a series of environmental disasters such as floods, landslides andslumping of slopes that caused the destruction of many houses, buildings, fact ories,schools, crops, pastures and roads. The intensive rainfall caused landslides andflooding in several small streams, causing the destruction of the margins andstructures built in areas legally for permanent protection. To better examine the factsthat led to disaster and led to such seriousness, it is evident that the rain triggered

    the disaster, but it was the vulnerability of municipalities regarding environmentalmanagement and public policies are inadequate or nonexistent that made the eventwere to assume the dimension of tragedy. Integrated planning of land use on waterresources management focusing on control and mitigation of floods, seeks toestablish relationships between land uses and urban land use and problemsinvolving urban flooding. Leaving, then, this new vision of planning and designspecification modern elements with the aid of information provided by theMultipurpose Technical Cadastre, GIS and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)this work aims to make a general analysis of the temporal dynamics of urban growthin the basin of Ribeiro Garcia, the city of Blumenau, Brazil and its effects on macrodrainage.
