ABSTRACT Ramlah : 2008. “Improving Students’ Speaking Skill Through Socio Drama at the Elementh Year of SMU PMDS Putri Palopo”, Under the supervisors of (I) Madehang, S.Ag., M.Pd. and (II) Wahibah, S.Ag.,M.Hum. Key Words : Improving Students’ Speaking Skill through Socio Drama This thesis deals with socio drama method in teaching speaking skill at the eleventh year of SMU PMDS Putri Palopo. The problem statement of this thesis : “Can socio drama improve the students’ speaking skill?” Based on the issues above, the writer proposes the tentative answer : there is a significant development in speaking skill at the eleventh year students of SMU PMDS Putri Palopo after conducting the socio drama method. Objective of this research is to improve students’ speaking skill at the eleventh year of SMU PMDS Putri Palopo. To answer the hypothesis above, the writer collected data by using a test namely pre-test and post-test. The test functioned to determine the improvement of the students’ speaking skill after they are taught by socio drama method. This research focused at the eleventh year students of SMU PMDS Putri Palopo in 2008/2009 academic year. The population were 34 students and the writer took all of students as sample. The sampling technique is total sampling. The result of the data analysis is accepted because t value (t 0 ) is bigger than t table (t t ). Where the value = 9,01 and t table with significant 5% is 2,03. So, there is the significant students’ speaking skill
