My aim was to determine which of the 9 drinks used was most effective at removing grout and at overall cleaning, and seeing if I could relate this to pH or any other factors. My research found that lemon juice had the highest pH at 2 and was used for its cleaning and corrosive properties therefore would remove it the fastest, and that pH level was the best indicator of acidity and therefore corrosiveness, so the results would follow a trend where the lowest pH would have the fastest removing properties. My method was soaking grouted tiles in each substance for a day and then consistently scrubbing them until all grout was removed. The data revealed that although water removed at the lowest rate with the highest pH and lemon juice vice versa, there were some fluctuations with this trend in the middle. The data suggested that pH level is related to but not directly proportional with the corrosiveness of liquids, as there are other factors involved, such as other chemicals in the drink and the strength of the type of acid in the drink. If I were to perform the experiment again I would investigate the individual drinks I was using to a greater depth, as it would allow me to have a better understanding on how they affected the grout and their general properties.
