ABOUT
ZAK BARNETT STUDIOSWHO we are
ZBS offers a very different kind of actor training. A holistic process of development puts the actor at the
center of a vibrant conversation and community. This community is built
with master teachers, industry leaders, artistic and cultural
innovators, and activists. Our central purpose concentrates on the power
of the individual artistic voice.
The gist: A team of artists who want you to “put your art at the center of
the conversation!”
WHAT we doAt the center of ZBS is actor training with the best acting teachers in Los Angeles, who are experts not only in the nuances of craft, but
unearthing and fortifying each actors individual “star quality.”
This training is further supported by the networking of a multi-generational community of fellow actors, artists, and mentors, as well
as top level industry experts like casting directors, producers, writers, agents, and
managers.
The gist: Actor training for “the development of the whole self.”
WHY we do it: The power we yield as actors, often
goes unrecognized by ourselves and society, and as such, our true potential is rarely realized. Having a school and
community that recognizes our inherent power, gives us the chance to own our gift and truly make it of service to the
world we live in.
The gist: We want “To serve the world with our art.”
ZBS Offers Three Levels of Classes Most of our students are currently working actors; because of this our class hierarchy is not labeled with beginning,
intermediate, and advanced.
Level-One Classes are for students new to the studio. They are focused on establishing the basic philosophy and technique.
Level-Two Classes are for students usually with 3-month to 6-months experience at the studio. They are designed to stretch the basic technique and
philosophy established in Level-One classes.
Level-Three Classes are for students who have either studied with Zak in the past, or have been at the studio usually for at least 6-months. Exceptions can
be made for students with a significant body of work. These classes are designed to encourage exploration with one’s own artistry.
It is often recommended that students take multiple classes in variant levels. This helps them not only work on their artistry, but fortifies their foundation.
For students enrolled in more than one class at the studio we now offer a multi-class discount:

SCENE STUDY and CRAFTLEVEL-TWO CLASSES
ZBS SCENE STUDY: Renowned celebrity acting coach Martha Gehman leads this monthly scene study class. In it she focuses on using what is unique about you to personalize your work and bring the material to life. This sensory based scene study class will deepen your instrument and excite your imagination, as you learn to bring your whole self to the journey of acting. Ongoing-monthly study. $400/Month Adults and Teens Only
ZBS CRAFT: ZBS CRAFT classes are designed for level-two students to pick a class that tailors the curriculum to their individual interests and needs. There is a two-forked road at the studio: the more body centered Dramatic Improv class, and the more analytic Craft class.
The ZBS CRAFT class is taught by ZBS Instructor Alex Burkart. This class focuses on applying the ZBS philosophy to genre. Every-other week class material will change genre- therefore allowing students to acutely assess and analyze the different skills and truths to any particular world. Ongoing monthly study. $400/Month.
The DRAMATIC IMPROV class is taught by ZBS Instructor Kym Priess. This class focuses on approaching on-camera auditions through the process of improvisation. Students will be led through weekly improv exercises that will relate to a given piece of copy. Ongoing monthly study. $400/Month.
It is often encouraged to take CRAFT classes alongside ZBS CORE or ZBS MASTER for a more encompassing experience.
