Lesson Presentations
Each Writing and Research lesson focuses on a specific step of the research process and features one or more technology tools helpful for that step.
Writing and Research CD Features
For the TeacherThis area includes:• To the Teacher—an essay written by Sara Kajder,
Assistant Professor of Education at Virginia Tech University and Writing and Research consulting author
• Teacher’s Notes, which provide background information on the Tech Tools discussed in each lesson, Lesson Plans with extension activities, and suggestions for differentiated instruction
• Possible Responses—possible and suggested responses for all Your Turn practice activities
Writing and Research CD Features
Student Handouts
The Student Handouts are Microsoft Word file versions of the Your Turn activities included in each Lesson Presentation. You may choose to print and distribute the handouts so that students can work on the Your Turn activities outside of class or in groups.
MLA/APA Styles
Writing and Research CD Features
This PowerPoint-based lesson provides a basic introduction to both MLA and APA citation formats. In addition, there are instructional handouts and practice activities for each style.

Tips containing multiple slides are linked with a Next button.

You may want to print some or all of the slides in a presentation.
To print slides
Open a presentation and choose Print from the File menu. This will open a Print pop-up menu.

In the Print range section, choose the range of slides.
• All – all slides
• Current slide – current slide
• Slides – enter the slide range you want to print (for example, 4–8)

1. In the Print what section, select Handouts.
2.Choose the number of slides from the Slides per page drop-down list.

Make sure to choose the Pure Black and White print option so that the text shows.

Other ways to use Writing and Research in your classroom
Assign individuals or teams of students to be “guest instructors” for a particular concept.
Print out presentations as study guides for students who need extra help.
Have teams of students investigate featured technologies and present them to the class.
Have students who have missed a presentation catch up by viewing the presentation through their Interactive Student Edition.
Customizing Writing and Research
To tailor these presentations to the abilities and interests of your students or to your teaching plan, you can• add, delete, edit, or reorganize slides
• add images, audio clips, or video clips
• change animation on slides
