We not only promote Remembrance but we are the advocate for Canadian Forces and RCMP veterans and their families to ensure their quality of life is the best it can be. The Legion is one of Canada’s largest community service organizations supporting everything from amateur sport to meals on wheels. Remembrance. It’s What We Stand For
We know that every November you pin a poppy to your lapel and then – on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month – take a moment to honour and remember those who served our country. For that we – and our veterans – thank you.
Did you know: There were 18 Million Poppies worn in 2012, which as a result, raised over $12 Million to support Veterans and their families.
Support. We Stand For Our Communities
Thanks to its 1,450 branches, 3,960 full- and part-time employees – and the generosity (in both funding and volunteer time) of its 320,000 members – the Legion is one of Canada’s largest community service organizations, supporting amateur sport, cadet and scout groups, new hospital equipment and non-profit housing in communities big and small, from coast to coast to coast.
Current programs include: $2.7 million in the form of bursaries and scholarships, $3.3 million for youth programs, $500,000 to the Legion National Track and Field Championships, $222 million for Seniors Housing and $6.5 million in support of local charities.
Did you know: The Legion does all this without a penny of government funding!
Service. We Stand For Veterans
The Legion assists veterans with disability claims, offers a hand up to veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and provides bursaries to children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of veterans. And that is not all - the Legion also supports drop-in centres, funds meals on wheels and housing and care facilities for elderly and disabled veterans and their families. There are many ways the Legion gives and by joining you can give too.
Did you know: The Legion’s Troop Morale Fund alone raised over $800,000.
