The Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for infants and children with special needs. Founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1972, the school was recognized by President George H. Bush as one of the “Points of Light” in the nation. Now, the Little Light House has come to Central Mississippi to help meet the need for a comprehensive approach to special needs education during the vital early developmental years.

The Little Light House-Central Mississippi opened its doors to children from birth through six years of age on January 9th, 2006. The Center, which is in Jackson MS, serves a range of children with special needs. It is staffed by state-certified special education teachers, therapists and approved volunteers. Physical, occupational and speech therapists are located at the school. This trans-disciplinary team takes a holistic approach to each child’s education. Individual educational plans with measurable goals are used to insure that each child develops to their fullest potential.

Recognizing that the first six years of life are the most important learning years, the Little Light House-Central Mississippi provides quality services to meet the educational, therapeutic and spiritual needs of infants and toddlers. Over fifty years of research on children with many types of disabilities has produced evidence that early

intervention can radically increase the capability of a child to function at their maximum level.

While trying to adjust to the emotional, physical and mental demands of having a child with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, or various other disabling conditions, families need as much support as possible. That is why the Little Light House is committed to being tuition-free. Finances from individuals, churches, corporate donors, trusts and foundations support the program. Parents, families and friends of the school also commit to giving their time and resources to make this a reality. A loving, caring community surrounds every child, to applaud and celebrate each milestone of success, and to visibly demonstrate the love of Christ.

The Little Light House-Central Mississippi currently has four classes of children and a waiting list of over forty children. Currently, it costs about $2,000 per month per child to provide the above services tuition-free.
