ABOUT THE BANDThe Kevin Patrick Sweeney Band started in 2003 and was the result of two groups with completely different sounds and styles coming together to form a band that would cover great music from a variety of genres. The song list that resulted was a mixture of 60’s soul, funk and R&B combined with both current and timeless rock and the hottest new country. The local media has described the group as “...a perfect blend of music and energy. The combination of both a male lead vocalist and female lead vocalists gives the group a diverse range and a unique sound in today’s music scene.”

SPECIAL EVENTSThe KPS Band has had the privilege of performing for many special events such as wedding receptions, festivals, corporate events, and fund raisers. Our passion has always been to create an exciting, dynamic show that is a positive addition to any event. We’ve combined outstanding musicians, powerful vocalists, high energy dance music from a variety of styles, and a superior digital sound system to create the ultimate performance experience. Kevin Patrick SweeneyLead Vocals, Keyboards, GuitarsAlthough formerly trained as a classical pianist, Kevin’s love for funk and blues led him to Columbus, Ohio to pursue a career performing along side of seasoned musicians in the area. Since then, Kevin has become a recognized and respected figure among the music community. His unmistakable soulful voice and signature piano style has been blowing audiences away all over the midwest and continues to attract new fans with every performance.

Deanna SweeneyLead Vocals, GuitarsNever wanting to be stereotyped as a folk singer, Deanna has always performed with pure aggression and emotion, writing music and lyrics with an edge that challenged the typical female “singer-songwriter” role. Performances often end with broken guitar strings and adoring fans.

Gretchen SchusterLead VocalsGretchen’s raw blues driven vocal style has a power and energy not found in many female vocalists. Her influences and passions clearly derive from 60’s soul, blues legends, and hard hitting New Orleans funk. For Gretchen, the common denominator that fuels her love for music can be summed up in one word – SOUL.

Brian CoonSaxophoneBrian is an accomplished jazz musician and can be seen playing alto, tenor and soprano sax. His roots are in jazz and are inspired by the sounds of the early pioneers such as Coltrane and Parker. Brian, or “B.C.”, has performed along side many nationally recognized artists.

John ZuckBass Guitar, VocalsJohn has a playing style all his own. A mixture of rock, funk and punk that evolved during his years with his own original project ISHKABIBBLE. John’s original sound and style were regularly seen opening up for many nationally recognized artists.

Jeff WardLead GuitarJeff started his career performing with his brother in a band that caught the attention of legendary recording artist Todd Rundgren. They were invited to record their work in Rundgren’s studio in New York. Inspired by many styles of music, Jeff continuously evolves his precision playing style and sound.

Joel StewardPercussionJoel has been playing professionally since the age of 13. He toured regionally during the 80’s with a variety of groups and then again nationally with jazz saxophonist, Vince Andrews from 1989-91. Since then he has been the backbone of many groups around the Columbus area. His playing style is pure energy and is a driving force behind the high energy KPS Band concerts.
