About MelanieSince March of 2008, Melanie has been the communications coordinator for the university

Police. As the Communications coordinator Melanie acts as a mediator between the students and police in making sure the dispatchers swiftly and correctly allocate police to priority calls.

Personal LifeMelanie is from Alabama, where she attended a community college. After college she worked as a 911 dispatcher but soon got an offer from Tennessee Tech to come work as the Communications Coordinator. Melanie says, “I didn’t find the job at Tennessee Tech, the job found me.” So far, Melanie says she loves her job.

Importance of her job

Melanie says her job is important because she gets to help students everyday. Whether they need information on parking tickets or questions concerning policy, Melanie feels it’s her responsibility to help students in whatever they need.

Although when students think of police they usually think of cops or dispatchers, we sometimes don’t realize the tremendous amount of work going on behind the scenes from people like Melanie. She works day in and day out protecting and informing the students of Tennessee Tech. and for that we are grateful to Melanie for all the hard work she does.

In closing, Melanie said, “I consider Tennessee Tech. to be my second home. I believe this is a safe place, and I am very comfortable in this work and school environment.”
