The Global Institute For Tomorrow (GIFT) is an independent pan-Asian think tank with
offices in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
Founded in 2004, GIFT is dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding of the shift of
influence from the West to Asia, the dynamic relationship between business, society and
the state, and the reshaping of the rules of global capitalism.
Rooted in the realities of Asia, GIFT’s original approach to leadership learning and outcome
driven facilitation provides direct exposure to the issues shaping markets, policy and
society in the 21st century.

Complex global challenges demand purposeful leadership.
Our proprietary curriculum and output-driven methodology puts
leadership to the test, instead of obscuring it with jargon and buzzwords.
Free from management theories and rich with real-world insights, we
foster mindset shifts and leadership behaviours that give meaning to “high
performance” and “thinking outside the box”.
Each open and custom GIFT programme is unique. We leverage an experiential methodology that is
participant led and output driven, working with partners in Asia’s most strategically important
markets.
Intellectually challenging cutting-edge content and real-world projects create a rich learning
environment grounded in our core learning pillars of knowledge, communication and empathy.

Aligned with strategic goals
Since 2006, GIFT has conducted almost 100 experiential leadership programmes across Asia.
On open prgrammes, participants apply their acumen, leadership abilities and problem-solving skills to
produce robust new business models for carefully selected local partners. These project partners may
be local companies, government agencies or leading NGOs.
On customised programmes, participants may also work on public issues concerning policy and
society or may develop strategies and produce business plans. In both cases, participants’ journeys
and outputs are tailored to objectives, themes, and projects discussed with their organisations.

Outcome driven facilitation is more important than ever.
Persistent and unaddressed strategic challenges cost a great
deal in time and money. Sometimes all that is needed is a
process of facilitation that is efficient, focused on outcomes
and unflinchingly honest.
14
GIFT facilitators have decades of experience advising MNCs and government agencies on strategy
and leadership challenges.
To facilitate tangible outcomes we use a methodology that cuts through the noise, goes straight to the
core and brings clarity to aid decision-making.
A deep appreciation of our client’s objectives within a regional context promotes structured and
effective discussions rooted in the realities and challenges of the external environment.
Because our clients face unique challenges, no two workshops we design are the same. We carefully
customise our approach and content with in-house research and a vast cross-sector network based on
the desired outcomes, cohort profile and duration of engagement.
We are committed to outcomes that are clearly articulated and prioritised, reaching agreement on
concrete actions, resource requirements, ownership and implementation roadmaps.

In order for leadership teams to drive business, manage change and motivate
its people, they must be aligned on the leadership traits they wish to embody
as a team, be able to articulate them to the organisation and lead by example.
This requires gaining awareness of shortcomings as individuals and as a
team and redefining leadership.
GIFT has worked with clients to map leadership gaps, build leadership pillars,
create purposeful leadership goals, and instill a high-performance culture.
Absence of clarity on corporate culture, shared goals and open
communication can create a management team that lacks trust and is
ineffective in achieving the organisation’s goals. These barriers to cohesion
often require external facilitation to ask hard questions and stimulate honest
discussion.
GIFT’s methodology has helped organisations with team integration, building
corporate culture, consensus building, and operationalising ideas.
The business environment is changing at a faster rate than ever before and
organisations must continuously respond to remain competitive. Leaders
must understand the impacts of the external environment on their business
and must critically examine current business models to ensure the relevance
and sustainability of the organisation.
Corporate participants have been guided to rethink current constraints,
interrogate products and services, create new business ideas, and develop
actionable plans.
Case Study: Working with an Asian Central Bank to propose, align and
operationalise Core Values and Pillars of Leadership
Case Study: Helping senior management at a top telco identify and
overcome barriers to innovation for digital transformation
Case Study: Developing radical new business opportunities in key Asian
markets for a leading global chemical company
Leadership begins with confronting hard truths.
With global population approaching 10 billion and resource
constraints intensifying, there is a growing need to rethink our
notions of progress, inclusive growth and business models in a
more contemporary context.
Confront hard truths to
understand what
sustainability really means
Identify new opportunities to
create new business models
Build organisational
competencies to forge
actionable solutions
Sustainability can no longer be confined to CSR initiatives, ESG reporting or be PR / Comms-led: a new
era of awareness and urgency has dawned.
GIFT offers a customised and structured engagement designed to get Board and Management teams to
come to terms with this new reality.
These are high level, strictly confidential and agenda-setting processes. It is for those ready to confront
and construct a bold and new narrative for their companies. This may include:
Facilitated briefings for
Board members and
shareholders to solidify
organsational position
and to take key
decisions on direction
Senior management
briefings, facilitated to
secure tangible
commitments to action
and to explore cascade
opportunities within
teams
Workshops for business
units aimed at arriving at
new business areas and
models, and to
operationalise
sustainability principles

Independent thinking. World-class content that matters.
Thought-provoking and practical, GIFT publications cover
leadership learning, inclusive business models and our
views on societal design in the 21st century.
Learning Places: The GIFT Report
Free from mainstream trends, conventional wisdom and
comforting themes, Learning Places goes beyond a mere
collection of case studies by drawing upon our on-the-
ground knowledge of markets, new business models,
untapped customers and environmental constraints.
Consumptionomics and The Sustainable State
by Chandran Nair
Consumptionomics argues that relying on mass
consumption to drive global growth needs to be replaced by
a more rational approach to the challenges of the 21st
century – peak population, climate change, and increasingly
scarce resources.
The Sustainable State builds on this, arguing that state
governance is essential to preserve public and common
goods to ensure that all citizens receive the basic rights of
life through the equal and fair access of resources.
The Other Hundred Photobook Series
The Other Hundred series is a worldwide initiative that
moves beyond stereotypes to challenge conventional
wisdom and introduce readers to the vast majority of
people, ideas, places and cultures overlooked by most
major media through a collection of one hundred photo
stories. There are three books in the series to date.
19
As an independent think tank, the freedom to cultivate and promote original ideas in response to the
forces of globalisation, technology and the rising economic influence of Asia has always been at the
forefront of GIFT’s work.
20
Participants on our leadership programmes are challenged to create robust new business models
and policy recommendations to address some of the world's most salient challenges, and in the
process uncover and articulate unrealised opportunities.
GIFT’s business reports describe commercially robust, socially-beneficial solutions in agribusiness,
healthcare, energy, and financial inclusion, among other sectors.
GIFT’s network spans cultures, paradigms, and the world.
Our mentors, advisors and guest speakers are pioneers in their
field. They challenge conventional wisdom, complementing the
work of our world-class facilitators and team.
