As you strive to achieve your long-term goals, such as a comfortable retirement, you may, at times, feel frustrated over events you can’t influ-ence, such as the up-and-down movements of the financial markets. Yet there is much you can control — once you determine the answers to just five key questions.Where am I today? Take stock of all your assets — your IRA, 401(k) and other savings and investment accounts. Then, do the same for your debts, such as your mortgage and any other financial obligations. On your financial journey through life, it’s essential that you know your starting point.Where would I like to be? Once you’ve estab-lished where you are today, you’ll need to identify where you’d like to be tomorrow. How much will you need to pay for the retirement lifestyle you’ve envisioned? Will you be able to help pay for your children’s or grandchildren’s college education? Will you need to support any other family members? At this stage, you’ll want to write down all your goals and put a price tag on each one.Can I get there? After you’ve identified your goals, determine if they are, in fact, achievable. By considering a variety of factors — including your likely future income stream and your family situation — you should be able to determine if you can attain your goals or if you need to modify them in some way.How do I get there? Now it’s time to put a strat-egy into action. Specifically, you need to choose
those investments that can help you pursue the goals you’ve selected. Your ideal portfolio will depend on your risk tolerance and time horizon, but in general, you’ll want a diversified mix of quality investments. While diversification, by itself, cannot guarantee a profit or protect against loss, it can help reduce the effects of volatility. As you put together your holdings, make sure you understand what you can expect from your investments. For example, growth stocks may offer the highest potential returns, but they also carry the greatest risk. On the other hand, investment-grade bonds can offer a steady income stream and, barring the default of the issuer, will repay your principal when they mature. How can I stay on track? Once you’ve built your investment portfolio, you’ll need to review it regularly — at least once a year — to help ensure it’s still meeting your needs. After all, many things can and will change in your life, such as your family situation, your goals, your employment and your risk tolerance. To address these changes, you’ll need to adjust your portfo-lio over time. As you can see, answering all these questions will take both work and expertise. That’s why you may want to work with a professional financial advisor to help you identify your goals and create a strategy for pursuing them. In any case, though, start asking — and answer-ing — these five key questions as soon as you can. It’s easier to reach your financial goals if you put time on your side.

Alli Roberts Salon is located in a building built by Allison Robert’s relatives: her Grandfather (the late Bobby McDonald), her Dad (Robert McDonald) and two of her uncles (Ric Driver of Accu-Print, Inc. and Ray Garner of The Trading Center) when Allison’s mom was pregnant with her. (The date is carved in the sidewalk in front of the Salon.) Allison’s other grandfather, the late George Driver, started Accu-Print, Inc. in Conyers and brought in Allison’s Dad and Uncle Ric as partners. Accu-Print was located in the building from 1982 until 2007. As a little girl, Al-lison was often found at Accu-Print. Ric Driver became the sole owner of the Print Shop after Allison’s Dad opened his Sign Company, Accu-Grafix, Inc. on Parker Road. Ric is presently still in business as a printing broker under the name of Accu-Print, but decided to close the store front in 2007. Allison had been in business as a colorist/stylist for 3 years and in January 2009 she walked into the empty building that once occupied the print shop where she grew up, and began to dream about transforming the building into an upscale Salon and Spa. With Allison’s great imagination and design talent – and help from her Dad, her husband, (Joseph Roberts), her Uncle Ray and Scott Riser (husband of one of the stylists at the Salon, Jenny Riser) – the old print shop has been transformed into a unique, inviting, upscale Salon that is a treat to come and visit. She managed to keep the “warehouse” charm, and even some of the “printers’ ink” on the stained and treated floors – while building stylists cubbies to give privacy to each of the four hair stylists. Conyers Middle School selected for live downlink with astronaut while in space.Conyers Middle School has received the distinguished honor of being the second school and first middle school in the state of Georgia to participate in a live downlink with crew members aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The downlink will take place at Conyers Middle School and is tentatively scheduled to take place on July 21, 2010, but will be available for viewing globally through the NASA Channel, Internet streaming and satellite. This downlink has been the springboard for the 6th grade Sci-ence curriculum and the 2009-2010 school year theme; “The Race to Space”. This opportunity has been provided by Teaching From Space, a NASA Education office. The downlink allows the International Space Station crew members to perform curric-ulum-based activities in space to demonstrate basic principles of science, math, engi-neering and geography and answer questions in real-time from students on Earth. The International Space Station, which originated in 1998, involves more than 15 na-tions. Between April 2009 and October 2010, more than 400 scientists will be involved in 165 investigations in such areas as human research, technology development, physical sciences, biological science, and Earth observation and education. Conyers students will be talking to NASA Astronauts Doug Wheelock, Tracy Caldwell Dyson, and Shannon Walker members of Expedition 24. Conyers Middle School has developed several pre and post activities surrounding this amazing event. Student activities have included:· Girls-In-Engineering Day and Writing Contest· Career Day with the NASA Digital Learning Network· A Project Runway Space Suit Fashion Show· NASA Design Challenges for Plant Growth in Space
It is the hopes of Conyers Middle School to continue to provide enrichment activities for students and increase their knowledge about ca-reers and learning opportunities in science, technol-ogy, engineering and mathematics, with continued collaboration as a NASA school.

Rockdale County Celebrates Juror Appreciation Week
in June Rockdale County has designated June 14 through 21 as Juror Appreciation Week to recognize the contributions that jurors make to the judicial process as well as to recognize the importance of jury service to the safe-guard of justice and freedom.
Spearheaded by Ruth A. Wilson, Superior and State Court Clerk of Rockdale County, Juror Appreciation Week was formally recog-nized by Chairman Richard A. Oden during the May 11 Board of Commissioners meeting.
“Rockdale County is committed to educating the public about jury duty and the importance of jury service,” Superior and State Court Clerk of Rockdale County Ruth A. Wilson stated. “We applaud the efforts of ju-rors who fulfill their civic duty and continue to improve the jury system by encouraging productive dialogue between jurors and court officials.”
During Juror Appreciation Week, local merchants will sponsor break-fast and lunch, snacks and other refreshments to jurors serving that week. The purpose of Juror Appreciation Week is to formally thank those who serve on jury duty and educate the public on the importance of juror participation. The right to trial by jury is one of the core values of American citizenship and the obligation and privilege to serve as a juror are as fundamental to this country’s democracy as the right to vote. Additionally, the courts depend upon citizens to serve as jurors, and service by citizens as jurors is indispensable to the judicial system.
Rockdale County commends the dedicated efforts of citizens who serve as jurors and recognizes the important role a citizen jury plays in the American justice system.
