• A panel discussion on the partnerships, challenges and the successes of Fort William First Nation, Resolute, True Grit and Oshki-Aki Engineering. This session will also cover the Resolute partnership with Cambrian College, Fort William First Nation and Red Rock Indian Band Millwright Program.

• Resolute’s Thunder Bay Sawmill is a cooperative project with Fort William First Nation (FWFN)
• Selection of this site resulted from a Letter of Intent between Resolute and FWFN
• An agreement on the site was negotiated in 2001
• Under this agreement FWFN financed and built the facility to house the Sawmill in their industrial park
• Resolute purchased and installed the Sawmill equipment
• FWFN achieved significant aboriginal employment, lease revenue, and spin-off benefits
• Resolute achieved an excellent site, a high quality building and a dependable new business partner
• The first operating industry under FNCIDA (First Nations Commercial Industrial Development Act) Regulations in Canada

Pre-apprenticeship Training Program
Designed to help potential entrants into apprenticeship system develop the job skills and trade readiness they need to prepare to find work as an apprentice. Up to 52 weeks and may include level 1 apprenticeship in school
training or relevant apprenticeship training, relevant safety training and an 8 – 12 week job placement. May also include trade readiness, employment preparation and
academic upgrading. Open to;
high school graduates Early school leavers Unemployed/ underemployed youth and adults EI/Non-EI eligible Aboriginal Peoples Newcomers to Canada

o Select your own career path upon high-school graduation
o Established in Ontario for the last six years o No up front sponsor required to complete the trade
school training o Graduate with the option of adding co-op work
experience hours o Your future employer does not have to send you to
school. o You graduate as a registered apprentice; building
upon your trade work experience hours to write the TQ.

For me the greatest recruitment challenge has been trades.
Many varied opinions on the “why” difficult to recruit.
For me these are well paid careers
Many doors of opportunities / offer mobility choices
Summary next steps:
