    KV7 SchnellinstallationsanleitungBeziehen Sie sich bitte fr detaillierte Informationen ber diese Hauptplatine auf die vollstndige Version

    des Benutzerbuchs. Diese Schnellinstallationsanleitung ist fr erfahrene Systemaufbauer gedacht. Ist esIhr erster Versuch ein Computersystem aufzubauen, dann empfehlen wir Ihnen zuerst das vollstndigeBenutzerhandbuch zu lesen oder einen Techniker zum Aufbauen des Systems zu Hilfe zu holen. (Einkomplettes Handbuch finden Sie auf der CD mit den Treibern und Hilfsprogrammen, die diesemMotherboard beiliegt.)

    Installieren des Prozessors

    Dieses Motherboard verfgt ber einen ZIF ( ZeroInsertion Force) Sockel 462 zur Installation eines AMDSocket A CPU. Ihre CPU sollte ber ein Khlblech undeinen Lfter verfgen. Wenn dies nicht der Fall ist, kaufenSie bitte diese Teile speziell fr den Sockel A.

    Bitte schauen Sie sich zur Installation von CPU undKhlblech diese Abbildung an. (Nur zur Referenz - IhrKhlblech & Lftergefge knnten sich von dieserAbbildung unterscheiden.)

    1. Finden Sie Sockel 462 auf diesem Motherboard.Ziehen Sie den CPU-Haltehebel zur Seite, um ihn zuentriegeln und ziehen ihn dann ganz hoch.

    2. Richten Sie die CPU-Kerbe mit der Sockelkerbe der

    CPU aus. Stecken Sie den Prozessor mit den Pinsnach unten in den CPU-Sockel. Wenden Sie keineGewalt beim Einsetzend der CPU an; sie pat nur ineine Richtung hinein. Schlieen Sie denCPU-Haltehebel.

    3. Entfernen Sie den Plastikfilm vom Khlblech. StellenSie sicher, da der abgestufte Teil des Khlblechs inRichtung des Sockelendes zeigt, auf dem Socket462 steht. Setzen Sie das Khlblech mit dem Gesichtnach unten auf den Prozessor, bis es den Prozessorkomplett abdeckt.

    4. Drcken Sie das kurze Ende des Halteclips zuerst an,um es mit der Mittellasche unten am Sockel zuverriegeln.

    5. Setzen Sie es mit einem Schraubenzieher in denSchlitz am langen Ende des Halteclips. Drcken Sieden Clip nach unten, um ihn mit der Mittellasche obenam Sockel zu verriegeln. Nun sind Khlblech &Lftergefge fest mit dem CPU-Sockel verbunden.

    6. Verbinden Sie den Lfteranschlu von Khlblech &Lftergefge mit dem Lfteranschlu amMotherboard.

    Achtung: Vergessen Sie nicht, die korrekte Busfrequenz und -Multiplikator fr Ihren Prozessoreinzustellen.

    Installieren der Hauptplatine im Gehuse

    Nach der Installation des Prozessors knnen Sie anfangen die Hauptplatine im Computergehuse zubefestigen. Die meisten Gehuse haben eine Bodenplatte, auf der sich eine Reihe von Befestigungslcherbefinden, mit deren Hilfe Sie die Hauptplatine sicher verankern knnen und zugleich Kurzschlsseverhindern. Verwenden Sie entweder die Dbeln oder die Abstandhalter, um die Hauptplatine auf derBodenplatte des Gehuses zu befestigen.

    Installation der RAM-Module

    1. Finden Sie den DIMM-Steckplatz auf dem Board.

    2. Halten Sie ie beiden Rnder des DIMM-Moduls

    vorsichtig fest, wobei Sie darauf achten, nicht dieAnschlsse zu berhren.

    3. Richten Sie die Nut am Modul mit der Erhhung amSteckplatz aus.

    4. Drcken Sie das Modul fest in die Steckpltze, bis dieAuswurflaschen zu beiden Seiten des Steckplatzesautomatisch in die Befestigungskerbe einschnappen. Wenden Sie keine Gewalt beim Einsetzen desDIMM-Moduls an; es pat nur in eine Richtung hinein.

    5. Zum Ausbau der Module drcken Sie die beiden Auswurflaschen auf dem Steckplatz nach auenzusammen und ziehen das Modul heraus.

    Anschlsse, Sockel, Schalter und Adapter

    Im Inneren des Gehuses findet man in jedem Computer viele Kabel und Stecker, die angeschlossenwerden mssen. Diese Kabel und Stecker werden normalerweise einzeln mit den Anschlssen auf derHauptplatine verbunden. Sie mssen genau auf die Anschlussorientierung der Kabel achten und, wennvorhanden, sich die Position des ersten Pols des Anschlusses merken. Wenn Sie Adapter wie z.B.SCSI-Adapter, AGP-Adapter usw. installieren, befestigen Sie bitte die Adapter immer mit Hilfe derSchrauben auf die Rckseite des Computergehuses.

    Verbinden der Netzstecker mit dem ATX12V-Anschluss

    Denken Sie daran, den Anschluss des ATX-Netzteils fest in das Ende mit dem ATX12V-Anschluss zudrcken, um eine feste Verbindung zu garantieren.

    BIOS-Setup

    Schalten Sie nach der vervollstndigten Hardwareinstallation den Computer ein und gehen zur Option imBIOS, um die Prozessorparameter einzustellen. Fr detaillierte Informationen beziehen Sie sich bitte aufdas vollstndige Benutzerhandbuch.

    KV7 Guide dInstallation RapidePour des informations relatives cette carte mre plus dtailles, veuillez vous rfrer notre versioncomplte du manuel utilisateur. Ce guide dinstallation rapide est cr pour les assembleurs systmeexpriments. Sil sagit de votre premier essai pour installer un ordinateur, nous vous suggrons de liredabord le manuel en version complte ou de demander laide dun technicien pour vous aider configurer le systme ordinateur.     Installer le Processeur

    Cette carte mre fournit un support ZIF ( Zero InsertionForce) Socket 462 permettant d'installer leMicroprocesseur AMD Socket A. Le microprocesseur quevous achetez doit tre muni d'un systme de

    refroidissement avec dissipateur thermique et ventilateur.Dans le cas contraire, veuillez en acheter un, conuspcialement pour les microprocesseurs Socket A.

    Veuillez vous rfrer la figure illustre ci-contre pourinstaller le processeur et le dissipateur thermique.(Dmonstration donne titre indicatif uniquement.Lassemblage de votre dissipateur thermique et de votreventilateur peut ne pas tre tout fait identique celui-ci.)

    1. Reprez le support Socket 462 situ sur cette cartemre. Tirez le levier de maintien du processeur versl'extrieur pour le librer puis soulevez-lecompltement vers le haut.

    2. Alignez lencoche du processeur avec celle du support pour processeur. Installez le processeur avec sa brochefaisant face au support pour processeur. Ne forcez pasen insrant le processeur; il ne peut sinsrer que dansune seule direction. Rabattez le levier de maintien du

    processeur.

    3. Retirez le film adhsif du dissipateur thermique.Assurez-vous que la partie surleve du dissipateurthermique fait face lextrmit du support marque

    Socket 462. Installez le dissipateur thermique pourqu'il fasse face au processeur et jusqu ce quilcouvre compltement le processeur.

    4. Tout d'abord, poussez vers le bas l'extrmit courte dela bride de fixation pour verrouiller sur le crochetcentral situ en bas du support.

    5. Utilisez un tournevis pour insrer dans la fente lalongue extrmit de la bride de fixation. Poussez labride de fixation vers l'avant pour verrouiller sur lecrochet central situ en haut du support. L'assemblagedu dissipateur Thermique et du ventilateur est

    maintenant solidement fix sur le support du CPU.6. Fixez le connecteur du ventilateur du dissipateur thermique & du ventilateur sur le connecteur

    correspondant de la carte mre.

    Attention: Noubliez pas de programmer la frquence de bus correcte et le multiple pour votre processeur.

    Installer la Carte Mre dans le Chssis

    Une fois que vous aurez install le processeur sur la carte mre, vous pourrez commencer fixer la cartemre sur le chssis. Tout dabord, vous avez besoin de fixer la carte mre sur le chssis. La plupart deschssis dordinateur possdent une base sur laquelle il y a nombreux trous de montage permettant lacarte mre dtre fixe fermement, et en mme temps dviter les court-circuits. Utilisez les talons ou lesentretoises fixs sur le chssis pour fixer la carte mre.

    Installer des Modules RAM

    1. Localisez le socle DIMM sur la carte.

    2. Maintenez les deux bords du module DIMM avec prcaution, en vitant de toucher ses connecteurs.

    3. Alignez la touche du cran avec la ligne sur le socle.

    4. Pressez fermement le module dans les socles jusquce que les languettes djection sur les deux cts dusocle aillent automatiquement dans le cran demontage. Ne forcez pas lexcs sur le moduleDIMM car celui-ci ne peut aller que selon une seuleorientation.

    5. Pour enlever des modules DIMM, pressez simultanment les deux languettes djection sur le socle, puis sortez le module DIMM.

    Attention: Llectricit statique risque dendommager les composants lectroniques de lordinateur oudes cartes optionnelles. Avant de commencer ces procdures, assurez-vous de bien dcharger toutellectricit statique en touchant rapidement un objet mtallique reli au sol.

    Connecteurs, Socles de connexion, Interrupteurs et Adaptateurs

    A lintrieur du botier de nimporte quel ordinateur il y a plusieurs cbles et prises qui doivent treconnects. Ces cbles et prises sont habituellement connects les uns aprs les autres aux connecteurssitus sur la carte mre. Vous avez besoin de faire attention au sens de connexion des cbles et, sil y alieu, remarquez la position de la premire broche du connecteur. Vous installerez certains adaptateurs

    pour des besoins spciaux, tels adaptateurs SCSI, adaptateurs AGP, etc. Lorsque vous les installez dansles emplacements situs sur la carte mre, veuillez les fixer sur le panneau arrire du chssis l'aide des

    vis.Pour les informations dtailles, veuillez vous rfrer au manuel utilisateur en version complte.

    Brancher les connecteurs d'alimentation dans les connecteurs ATX12V

    Souvenez-vous que vous devez pousser le connecteur de votre alimentation fermement dans le connecteurATX12V pour assurer une bonne connexion.

    Configuration du BIOS

    Une fois le matriel install compltement, dmarrez l'ordinateur et allez sur l'item dans le BIOS pour

    configurer les paramtres du processeur. Pour les informations dtailles, veuillez vous rfrer laversion complte du manuel utilisateur.

    Guida allinstallazione veloce Scheda madre KV7Per maggiori e dettagliate informazioni su questa scheda madre si prega di fare riferimento alla versioneintegrale del Manuale utente. Questa guida allinstallazione veloce intesa per costruttori esperi disistemi. Se questa la prima volta che si cerca di installare un sistema, si consiglia di leggere, innanzitutto, la versione integrale del manuale oppure di chiedere aiuto ad un tecnico per linstallazione.

    Installazione del processore

    Questa scheda madre fornisce una presa Socket 462 ZIF(Zero Insertion Force forza dinserimento zero) perinstallare il processore AMD Socket A. Il processoreacquistato dovrebbe essere fornito di dispersore di calore eventolina per il raffreddamento. In caso contrarioacquistare un dispersore di calore specifico per la presaSocket A.

    Per il montaggio della CPU e del termodispersore,consultare la figura accanto. Si noti che il gruppotermodispersore-ventola illustrati possono non essereidentici a quelli effettivamente da montare.

    1. Individuare il socket 462 sulla scheda madre. Tirarelateralmente la leva di sblocco della CPU e sollevarela CPU completamente.

    2. Allineare la tacca della CPU con quella del socket

    CPU. Appoggiare il processore con il lato diconnessione verso il basso nel socket, senza forzare.La CPU pu essere montata in una sola direzione.Chiudere la leva di sblocco della CPU.

    3. Staccare la pellicola adesiva dal termodispersore.the plastic film adhesive on the heatsink. Accertarsiche la superficie del termodispersore provvista digradino sia rivolta verso l'estremit del socket indicatocome "Socket 462". Applicare il termodispersore conil lato inferiore verso il basso sul processore fino acoprirlo completamente.

    4. Tirare verso il basso il lato corto del clip di ritegnofino ad impegno con la linguetta centrale sul latoinferiore del socket.

    5. Con laiuto di un cacciavite, inserire la linguetta nellafessura sul lato lungo del clip di ritegno. Spingere ilclip verso il basso fino ad impegno con la linguettacentrale della parte superiore del socket. A questo

    punto, il gruppo termodispersore-ventola saldamentefissato al socket CPU.

    6. Fissare il connettore ventola del gruppotermodispersore-ventola al connettore ventola della scheda madre .

    Attenzione: Non dimenticare di impostare la corretta frequenza multipla e BUS per il processore.

    Installazione della scheda madre sul telaio

    Dopo avere installato il processore sulla scheda madre si pu iniziare a fissare la scheda madre sul telaio.Innanzi tutto necessario fissare la scheda madre al telaio. La maggior parte dei telai ha una base sullaquale sono presenti diversi fori di montaggio che permettono di fissare in modo accurato la scheda madree, allo stesso tempo, di prevenire corto circuiti. Impiegare le borchie o gli spaziatori attaccati al telaio perfissare la scheda madre.

    Installare i moduli RAM

    1. Ubicare gli alloggiamenti DIMM sulla scheda.

    2. Tenere con delicatezza i lati del modulo DIMM senzatoccare i connettori.

    3. Allineare la tacca sul modulo con la nervaturadellalloggiamento.

    4. Premere con fermezza il modulo nellalloggiamentofinch le linguette despulsione su entrambi i latidellalloggiamento scattano sulla tacca di montaggio.

    Non forzare eccessivamente il modulo DIMM perch questultimo si adatta solamente in unadirezione.

    5. Per rimuovere i moduli DIMM spingere contemporaneamente le due linguette despulsionesullalloggiamento, poi estrarre il modulo DIMM.

    Attenzione: Lelettricit statica pu danneggiare i componenti elettronici del computer o delle schede.Prima di iniziare queste procedure, assicurarsi di avere scaricato completamente lelettricit statica

    toccando brevemente un oggetto metallico con massa a terra.

    Connettori, collettori, interruttori ed adattatori

    Allinterno della copertura di ogni computer ci sono diversi cavi e prese che devo essere collegati. Questicavi e prese sono solitamente collegati uno ad uno ai connettori situati sulla scheda madre. E necessario

    prestare particolare attenzione a qualunque orientamento del collegamento che possono avere i cavi e, senecessario, notare la posizione del primo pin del connettore. Si installeranno alcuni adattatori per

    particolari necessit quali ladattatore SCSI, AGP, eccetera. Quando si installano gli adattatori sugli slotdella scheda madre, si ricorda di fissarli con le viti anche sul pannello posteriore del telaio.

    Collegamento dei connettori dalimentazione ai connettori ATX12V

    Ricordarsi che necessario spingere con fermezza fino in fondo il connettore della sorgentedalimentazione ATX al connettore ATX12V, assicurando cos un buon collegamento.

    Impostazione BIOS

    Quando lhardware stato installato completamente, accendere il computer ed andare alla voce BIOS perimpostare i parametri del processore. Per informazioni dettagliate si prega di fare riferimento alla versioneintegrale del Manuale utente.

    Chapter 2. Hardware Setup

    Before the Installation: Turn off the power supply switch (fully turn off the +5V standby power), ordisconnect the power cord before installing or unplugging any connectors or add-on cards. Failing to doso may cause the motherboard components or add-on cards to malfunction or damaged.

    2-1. Install The Motherboard

    Most computer chassis have a base with many mounting holes to allow motherboard to be securelyattached on and at the same time, prevented from short circuits. There are two ways to attach themotherboard to the chassis base:

    1. use with studs2. or use with spacers

    In principle, the best way to attach the board is touse with studs. Only if you are unable to do thisshould you attach the board with spacers. Line upthe holes on the board with the mounting holes onthe chassis. If the holes line up and there arescrew holes, you can attach the board with studs.If the holes line up and there are only slots, youcan only attach with spacers. Take the tip of thespacers and insert them into the slots. After doing

    this to all the slots, you can slide the board into position aligned with slots. After the board has been positioned, check to make sure everything is OKbefore putting the chassis back on.

    ATTENTION: To prevent shorting the PCB circuit, please REMOVE the metal studs or spacers if theyare already fastened on the chassis base and are without mounting-holes on the motherboard to align with.

    2-2. Install CPU and Heatsink

    Note

    Installing a heatsink and cooling fan is necessary for heat to dissipate from your processor.Failing to install these items may result in overheating and processor damage.

    The AMD Socket A processor will produce a lot of heat while operating, so you need to use alarge heat sink that is especially designed for the AMD socket A processor. Otherwise, it mayresult in overheating and processor damage.

    If your processor fan and its power cable are not installed properly, never plug the ATX powercable into the motherboard. This can prevent possible processor damage.

    Please refer to your processor installation manual or other documentation with your processor fordetailed installation instructions.

    This motherboard provides a ZIF ( Zero InsertionForce) Socket 462 to install AMD Socket A CPU.The CPU you bought should have a kit ofheatsink and cooling fan along with. If thats not

    the case, buy one specially designed for Socket A.Please refer to the figure shown here to installCPU and heatsink. (For reference only. YourHeatsink & Fan Assembly may not be exactly thesame as this one.)

    1. Locate the Socket 462 on this motherboard.Pull the CPU release lever sideways tounlatch and then raise it all the way up.

    2. Align the CPU notch to the socket notch forCPU. Drop the processor with its pin sidedown into the CPU socket. Do not use extraforce to insert CPU; it only fit in onedirection. Close the CPU release lever.

    3. Remove the plastic film adhesive on theheatsink. Make sure the stepped portion ofthe heatsink is facing toward the end of thesocket that reads Socket 462. Put theheatsink faces down onto the processor untilit covers the processor completely.

    4. Push down the short end of the retaining clipfirst to lock up with the center lug at thebottom of the socket.

    5. Use a screwdriver to insert into the slot at thelong end of the retaining clip. Push the clipdownward to lock up with the center lug atthe top of the socket. The heatsink & fanassembly is now firmly attached on the CPUsocket.

    6. Attach the fan connector of Heatsink & FanAssembly with the fan connector on themotherboard.

    ATTENTION: Do not forget to set the correctbus frequency and multiple for your processor.

    4. Firmly press the module into the slots untilthe ejector tabs at both sides of the slotautomatically snaps into the mounting notch.Do not force the DIMM module in with extraforce as the DIMM module only fit in one direction.

    5. To remove the DIMM modules, push the two ejector tabs on the slot outward simultaneously, andthen pull out the DIMM module.

    ATTENTION: Static electricity can damage the electronic components of the computer or optionalboards. Before starting these procedures, ensure that you are discharged of static electricity by touching agrounded metal object briefly.

Please readthe entire section for necessary information before attempting to finish all the hardware installation insidethe computer chassis.     This header uses a jumper to select the S2K mode.

    Short pin-2 and pin-3 for Strapping from Hardware to allow the CPU hardware controls the timing ofS2K bus for a better system flexibility.

    The default setting is pin-1 and pin-2 shorted for Strapping from boot ROM to allow the internal bootROM controls the timing of S2K bus.

    (6). Front Panel Switches & Indicators Headers

    This header is used for connecting switches and LED indicators on the chassis front panel.

    Watch the power LED pin position and orientation. The mark + align to the pin in the figure belowstands for positive polarity for the LED connection. Please pay attention to connect these headers. Awrong orientation will only cause the LED not lighting, but a wrong connection of the switches couldcause system malfunction.

    HLED (Pin 1, 3):Connects to the HDD LED cable of chassis front panel.

    RST (Pin 5, 7):Connects to the Reset Switch cable of chassis front panel.

    SPK (Pin 15, 17, 19, 21):Connects to the System Speaker cable of chassis.

    To use the audio connector at front panel, remove all the jumpers on this header, and then connectto front panel by the extenson cable provided with the chassis.

    (11). Floppy Disk Drive Connector

    This connector supports two standard floppy disk drives via a 34-pin 34-conductor ribbon cable.

    Connecting the Floppy Disk Drive Cable:

    1. Install one end of the ribbon cable into the FDC1 connector. The colored edge of the ribbon cableshould be aligned with pin-1 of FDC1 connector.

    2. Install the other end(s) of ribbon cable into the disk drive connector(s). The colored edge of theribbon cable should be also aligned with pin-1 of disk drive connector. The endmost connectorshould be attached to the drive designated as Drive A.

    (12). IDE Connectors

    This motherboard provides two IDE ports to connect up to four IDE drives at Ultra ATA/100 mode byUltra ATA/66 ribbon cables. Each cable has 40-pin 80-conductor and three connectors, providing twohard drives connection with motherboard. Connect the single end (blue connector) at the longer length of

    ribbon cable to the IDE port on motherboard, and the other two ends (gray and black connector) at theshorter length of the ribbon cable to the connectors on hard drives.

    If you want to connect two hard drives together through one IDE channel, you must configure the seconddrive to Slave mode after the first Master drive. Please refer to the drives documentation for jumpersettings. The first drive connected to IDE1 is usually referred to as Primary Master, and the seconddrive as Primary Slave. The first drive connected to IDE2 is referred to as Secondary Master and thesecond drive as Secondary Slave.

    Keep away from connecting one legacy slow speed drive, like CD-ROM, together with another hard driveon the same IDE channel; this will drop your integral system performance.

    These connectors are provided to attach one Serial ATA device at each channel via Serial ATA cable. ARAID 0 or RAID 1 array is also available by software configuration.

    Mouse: Connects to PS/2 mouse.

    R.L./R.R. (Rear Left / Rear Right): Connects to the rear left and rear right channel in the 5.1channel audio system.

    Chapter 3. BIOS Setup

    This motherboard provides a programmable EEPROM that you can update the BIOS utility. The BIOS(Basic Input/Output System) is a program that deals with the basic level of communication between

    processor and peripherals. Use the BIOS Setup program only when installing motherboard, reconfiguringsystem, or prompted to Run Setup. This chapter explains the Setup Utility of BIOS utility.

    After powering up the system, the BIOS message appears on the screen, the memory count begins, andthen the following message appears on the screen:

    PRESS DEL TO ENTER SETUP

    If this message disappears before you respond, restart the system by pressing + + keys, or by pressing the Reset button on computer chassis. Only when it failed by these two methods can

    you restart the system by powering it off and then back on.After pressing key, the main menu screen appears.

    CPU Name Is:

    This item displays the CPU model name, for example: AMD Athlon(tm) XP.

    CPU Operating Speed:

    This item displays the CPU operating speed according to the type and speed of your CPU. You can alsoselect the [User Define] option to enter the manual option.

    User Define:

    WARNING: The wrong settings of the multiplier and external clock in certain circumstances may causeCPU damage. Setting the working frequency higher than the PCI chipset or processor specs, may causeabnormal memory module functioning, system hangs, hard disk drive data lose, abnormal functioning ofthe VGA card, or abnormal functioning with other add-on cards. Using non-specification settings for yourCPU is not the intention of this explanation. These should be used for engineering testing, not for normalapplications.

    There will be no guaranty for the settings beyond specification, any damage of any component on thismotherboard or peripherals result therein is not our responsibility.

    CPU FSB Clock (MHz):

    This item sets the CPU Front Side Bus speed from 100 to 250. Due to the specification limit of the CPUyou installed, the speed you set over its standard bus speed is supported, but not guaranteed.

    Ratio (FSB:AGP:PCI):

    This item sets the ratio among the clock of FSB, AGP, and PCI. Take the 4:2:1ratio for instance, if theFSB clock is 133MHz (133 x 4/4), the AGP clock will be 66MHz (133 x 2/4), and the PCI clock will be33MHz (133 x 1/4).

    Multiplier Factor:

    This item sets the multiplier factor for the CPU you installed.

    NOTE: Some processors might have this multiplier factor locked, so there is no way to choose a higher

    multiplier factor.

    Power Supply:

    This option allows you to switch between CPU default and user-defined voltages. Leave this setting todefault unless the current CPU type and voltage setting cannot be detected or is not correct. The optionUser Define enables you to select the Core Voltage manually.

    CPU Core Voltage:

    This item selects the CPU core voltage.

    ATTENTION: A wrong voltage setting may cause the system unstable or even damage the CPU. Pleaseleave it to default settings unless you are fully aware of its consequences.

    AGP Voltage:

    This item selects the voltage for AGP slot.

    DDR Voltage:

    This item selects the voltage for DRAM slot.

    NB Core Voltage:This item selects the NB core voltage.

    CPU Fast Command Decode:

    Two options are available: at Normal to Fast or at Fast to Normal. This will depends which stateyou choose. If you set this item from at Fast to to Normal , when you reboot the system and finishthe POST process, the state will change to your new setting (Heres to Normal ). After that, if you go toview the BIOS menu again, you will see this item shows at Normal , if you press the < Enter > key,youll see the two options: at Normal to Fast, and the default setting is at Normal . If you set this itemfrom at Normal to to Fast , and go through the same process we mentioned before, you will see this

    item shows at Fast , if you press the < Enter > key, youll see the two options: at Fast to Normal, andthe default setting is at Fast .     When set to [Auto], the BIOS will automatically check what kind of IDE drive you are using. If you wantto define your own drive by yourself, set it to [Manual] and make sure you fully understand the meaningof the parameters. Please refer to the instruction manual provided by the devices manufacturer to get thesetting right.

    Access Mode:

    This item selects the mode to access your IDE devices. Leave this item to its default [Auto] setting todetect the access mode of your HDD automatically.

    Capacity:

    This item displays the approximate capacity of the disk drive. Usually the size is slightly greater than thesize of a formatted disk given by a disk-checking program.

    Cylinder:

    This item configures the numbers of cylinders.

    Head:

    This item configures the numbers of read/write heads.

    Precomp:

    This item displays the number of cylinders at which to change the write timing.

    Landing Zone:

    This item displays the number of cylinders specified as the landing zone for the read/write heads.

    Sector:

    This item configures the numbers of sectors per track.

    Drive A & Drive B:

    This item sets the type of floppy drives (usually only Drive A) installed.

    Floppy 3 Mode Support:

    This item displays the amount of extended memory detected during system boot-up.

    This item displays the total memory available in the system.

    3-3. Advanced BIOS Features

    Hard Disk Boot Priority:

    This item selects the hard disks booting priority. By pressing key, you can enter its submenuwhere the hard disks detected can be selected for the booting sequence to boot up system.

    This item functions only when there is the option of [Hard Disk] in any one of the First/Second/ThirdBoot Device items.

    Virus Warning:

    When set to [Enabled], the BIOS will monitor the boot sector and partition table of the hard disk drive. Ifthere is any attempt of writing to the boot sector or partition table of the hard disk drive, the BIOS willhalt the system and an error message will appear.

    USB Flash Disk Type:

    This item selects the type for your USB flash disk.

    First Boot Device / Second Boot Device / Third Boot Device / Boot Other Device:

    Select the drive to boot first, second and third in the [First Boot Device], [Second Boot Device], and[Third Boot Device] items respectively. The BIOS will boot the operating system according to thesequence of the drive selected. Set [Boot Other Device] to [Enabled] if you wish to boot from anotherdevice other than these three items.

    Swap Floppy Drive:

    When set to [Enabled], and the system is booting from the floppy drive, the system will boot from drive Binstead of the regular drive A. There must be two floppy drives connected in the system to use thisfunction.

    Boot Up Floppy Seek:

    When set to [Enabled], the BIOS will check whether the floppy disk drive is installed or not.

    When set to [Enabled], this item allows you to run some older operating system without floppy disk drive.Leave this item to its default setting.

    Delay IDE Initial (Secs):

    This item allows the BIOS to support some old or special IDE devices by prolonging this delay time. Alarger value will give more delay time to the device for which to initialize and to prepare for activation.

    Disable Unuse DIMM/PCI Clk:

    This option disables the clock of DIMM/PCI slot that is not in use.

    [Yes]: The system automatically detect the unused DIMM and PCI slots, and stop sending clock signal tothese unused PCI slots.

    [No]: The system always send clock signal to all PCI slots.

    NOTE: Set this option to [No] setting if there are adapters that cannot be automatically detected by thesystem and will cause malfunction.

    3-4. Advanced Chipset Features

    DRAM Clock/Drive Control:

    This item will show you the current system front side bus speed.

    Current DRAM Frequency:

    This item will show you the current DRAM bus speed.

    DRAM Clock:

    This item sets the DRAM clock of your DRAM module. The system may be unstable or unable to boot upif your DRAM module does not support the clock you set.

    When set to [By SPD], the BIOS will read the DRAM module SPD data and automatically set the DRAMclock by the value stored in it.

    NOTE: This item will be unchangeable at 333MHz FSB.

    DRAM Timing Selectable:

    Four options are available: Manual By SPD Turbo Ultra. The default setting is By SPD . Whenset to By SPD , the BIOS will read the DRAM module SPD data and automatically set to the valuesstored in it. If you set to Manual , the following five items will be available to let you makeadjustments.

    CAS Latency Time:

    Four options are available: 1.5 2 2.5 3. The default setting is 2.5 . You can select SDRAM CAS(C olumn Address Strobe) latency time according your SDRAM specification.

    Bank Interleave:

    Three options are available: Disabled 2 Way 4 Way. The default setting is Disabled . Depending onyour SDRAM module structure, the 4-Way setting can offer the best performance. If you choose thewrong setting, the computer system will not run in a stable manner. For detailed information on your

    SDRAM module, please ask your SDRAM module manufacturer.Precharge to Active (Trp):

    Trip timing value (Precharge time time from precharge command to when back can be activated).

    Active to Precharge (Tras):

    Tras timing value = Minimum bank active time from activate to precharge of same bank.

    Active to CMD (Trcd):

    Trcd timing value = RAS to CAS latency + rd/wr command delay

    DRAM Burst Length

    DDR SDRAM modules provide a Burst mode that means an auto precharge function for programmableREAD or WRITE burst lengths of 4 or 8 locations.

    This means that if we set burst length to 8, the address bus will acesss 8 bytes each cycle to precharge,etc.

    DRAM Command Rate:

    Two options are available: 2T Command or 1T Command. The default setting is 2T Command . When thehost (northbridge) locates the desired memory address, it then processes the wait state of commands. Setit to 2T Command for system compatibility or to 1T Command for system performance.

    Write Recovery Time:

    Two options are available: 2T or 3T. The default setting is 3T . This is the period between two write times.

    DDR400 tWTR timing control

    Two options are available: 1T or 2T. The default setting is 2T . This is the Internal WRITE to READcommand delay time period.

    PCI Master 0 WS Write:

    Two options are available: Enabled or Disabled. The default setting is Enabled . When Enabled, writes tothe PCI bus are executed with zero wait state (immediately) when PCI bus is ready to receive data. If it isset to Disabled , the system will wait one state before data is written to the PCI bus.

    PCI Master 0 WS Read:

    Two options are available: Enabled or Disabled. The default setting is Enabled . When Enabled, reads tothe PCI bus are executed with zero wait state (immediately) when PCI bus is ready to receive data. If it isset to Disabled , the system will wait one state before data is written to the PCI bus.

    CPU to PCI Post Write

    Two options are available: Enabled or Disabled. The default is Enabled , When Enable , data transmissionfrom CPU to PCI bus are buffered and compensate for the different speed between CPU and PCI bus. If it

    is set to Disabled , data transmissions are not buffered and CPU must wait until the data transmission iscomplete and then start another transmission cycle.

    Vlink 8X Support:

    Two options are available: Disabled or Enabled. The default setting is Enabled . This item can let youenable the Vlink bus data transfer between northbridge and southbridge.

    PCI Delay Transaction:

    Two options are available: Disabled or Enabled. The default setting is Enabled . The chipset has anembedded 32-bit posted write buffer to support delay transactions cycles. Select Enabled to supportcompliance with PCI specification version 2.2.

    3-5. Integrated Peripherals

    OnChip IDE Device:

    IDE Prefetch Mode:

    Two options are available: Disabled or Enabled. The default setting is Enabled . The onboard IDE driveinterfaces supports IDE prefetching for faster drive accesses. If you install a primary and/or secondaryadd-in IDE interface, set this field to Disabled if the interface does not support prefetching.

    OnChip SATA Device:

    This option enables or disables the OnChip SATA controller.

    OnChip IDE-1 Controller:

    This item allows you to enable or disable the primary and secondary IDE controller. Select [Disabled] ifyou want to add a different hard drive controller.

    Master/Slave Drive PIO Mode

    The PIO (Programmed Input/Output) mode allows the BIOS to tell the controller what it wants and thenlet the controller and the CPU perform the complete task, rather than having the BIOS issue a series ofcommands to affect a transfer to or from the disk drive.

    Parallel Port Mode: Four options are available: SPP EPP ECP ECP+EPP. The default settingis ECP+EPP mode.

    EPP Mode Select: Two options are available: EPP1.7 EPP1.9. The default setting is EPP 1.7 . Whenthe mode selected for the parallel port mode is EPP, the two EPP version options are available.

    ECP Mode Use DMA: Two options are available: 1 3. The default setting is 3. When the modeselected for the parallel port mode is ECP, the DMA channel selected can be Channel 1 or Channel 3.

    3-6. Power Management Setup

    ACPI Suspend Type:

    This item selects the type of Suspend mode.

    [S1(POS)]: Enables the Power On Suspend function.

    [S3(STR)]: Enables the Suspend to RAM function.

    MODEM Use IRQ:

    You can specify the IRQ for modem use. Eight options are available: NA 3 4 5 7 9 10 11. The default setting is NA .

    Power Button Function:

    This item selects the method of powering off your system:

    [Delay 4 Sec.]: Pushing the power button for more than 4 seconds will power off the system. This will prevent the system from powering off in case you accidentally hit or pushed the power button.

    [Instant-Off]: Pressing and then releasing the power button at once will immediately power off thesystem.

    Run VGABIOS if S3 Resume:

    Three options are available: Auto Yes No. The default setting is Auto . This item can let you choosewhen S3 resume active, the VGA BIOS need to be initiative or not.

    Restore On AC Power Loss:

    This item selects the system action after an AC power failure.

    [Power Off]: When power returns after an AC power failure, the systems power remains off. You must press the Power button to power-on the system.

    [Power On]: When power returns after an AC power failure, the systems power will be powered onautomatically.

    [Last State]: When power returns after an AC power failure, the system will return to the state where youleft off before power failure occurs. If the systems power is off when AC power failure occurs, it willremain off when power returns. If the systems power is on when AC power failure occurs, the systemwill power-on when power returns.

    IRQ/Event Activity Detect:

    Power On Function:

    Four options are available: Hot Key Password Mouse Button Only. The default setting is ButtonOnly . This iten allow you to choose the computer power turn on method you like. Some item you choose,some of the following items will be available to let you making further setting. For instance, when you setthis item to Password , the item of KB Power On Password will allow you to enter password. When

    you set this item to Hot Key , the item of Hot Key Power On will allow you to choose the hot key youwant. If you choose Mouse , you can press any key on mouse to turn on the computer power.

    NOTE: To enable this Power On function, the wake-up header of [PS2-PWR1], [USB-PWR1],[USB-PWR2] must be set to [Enabled] position. Please refer to the configuration of Wake-up Header[PS2-PWR1], [USB-PWR1], and [USB-PWR2] in section 2-4, chapter 2.

    The mouse wake up function can only be used with the PS/2 mouse, not with the COM port or USB type.Some PS/2 mice cannot wake up the system because of compatible problems. If the specs of yourkeyboard are too old, it may fail to power on.

    KB Power On Password:

    When you perss the < Enter > key, then you can enter the password you want. When set be done, you needto saving and leave the BIOS setting menu to reboot your computer system. Next time when youshutdown your computer, you cant use the power button to turn on the computer power anymore. You need to press the password to turn on your computer power.

    Hot Key Power On:

    Fifteen options are available: Ctrl+F1 ~ Ctrl+F12, Power, Wake and Any Key. The default setting is Ctrl+F1 . You can choose the hot key that you want it to turn on your computer power.

    PS2MS Wakeup:

    This item controls the PS2 mouse to wake up the system that has been powered down.

    3-7. PnP/PCI Configurations

    Force Update ESCD:

    If you want to clear ESCD data next time you boot up, and ask the BIOS to reset the settings for the Plug& Play ISA Card and the PCI Card, select Enabled. But the next time you boot up, this option willautomatically be set as Disabled.

    NOTE: The ESCD (Extended System Configuration Data) contains the IRQ, DMA, I/O port, memoryinformation of the system. This is a specification and a feature specific to the Plug & Play BIOS.

    Resources Controlled By:

    This item configures all of the boot and Plug-and-Play compatible devices.

    [Auto(ESCD)]: The system will automatically detect the settings.

    3-8. PC Health Status

    CPU Shutdown Temperature:

    This item sets the temperature that would shutdown the system automatically in order to prevent systemoverheats.

    CPU Warning Temperature:

    This item selects the CPUs warning temperature limit. Once the system has detected that the CPUstemperature exceeded the limit, warning beeps will sound.

    NOTE: The onboard hardware monitor function is capable of detecting these system health conditions. Ifyou want a warning message to pop-up or a warning alarm to sound when an abnormal condition occurs,you must install the Hardware Doctor utility. This utility is included in the Driver & Utility CD thatcame packed with this motherboard.

    FAN Fail Alarm Selectable:

    This item selects the fan that will be monitored for malfunction.

    Shutdown When CPU Fan Fail:

    When set to [Enabled], the system will be shut down if the CPU fan is not running.

    CPU FanEQ Speed Control:

    This item allows you to control the CPU fan speed down to a specific percentage.

    When set to a specific percentage, the CPU fan speed will run at the percentage you set in this item if thetemperature limit set in the item Active Temperature is not exceeded.

    The CPU fan speed will run at 100% regardless of what the percentage you set in this item if thetemperature limit set in the item Active Temperature is exceeded.

    Active Temperature:

    This item sets the temperature limit that would activate the function of CPU FanEQ Speed Controloption.

    Insert the Driver & Utility CD into CD-ROMdrive, it should execute the installation programautomatically. If not, double-click the executionfile at the main directory of this CD to enter theinstallation menu.

    Appendix F. BIOS Update Guide

    The procedure illustrated here is based on the model SE6 as an example; all other models follow the same process.

    1. First, find out the model name and version number of this motherboard. You can find a bar-codesticker typed with model name and version number on motherboard PCB.

    2. Find out the current BIOS ID. For example, in this case, the current BIOS ID is [ 00]. If you alreadyhave the latest BIOS, no any update action is necessary. If your BIOS is not the latest BIOS, go on tothe next step.

    3. Download the correct BIOS file from our Web site.

    4. Double click the downloaded file, it will self-extractto [ awdflash.exe ] and [* .bin ] files.

    5. Make a bootable floppy disk and copy the necessaryfiles onto it. You may make a floppy disk bootableeither in Explorer or in the DOS prompt mode.

    After formatting and transferring the system to thefloppy disk, copy two files into it. One is the BIOSflash utility [ awdflash.exe ] and the other is the

    decompressed BIOS binary [* .bin ] file.

    6. Please set the first boot sequence as Floppy in BIOS and boot off the floppy disk.

    7. Flash the BIOS in pure DOS mode.

    A:\>awdflash se6_sw.bin /cc /cd /cp /py /sn /cks /r_

    Note

    We strongly recommend you use the above parameters following awdflash to flash your BIOS.DO NOT just type awdflash se6_sw.bin without the above parameters following the .bin file.

    The Award flash utility cannot be completed under the Windows environment. It must be done ina pure DOS environment.

    You should check which BIOS file is to be used with your motherboard, don flash with thewrong BIOS file. Otherwise, it may cause system malfunctions.

    Please do not use the Award flash memory writer version earlier than Version 7.52C to flash theBIOS. Otherwise, it may cause flash fail or un-anticipated problems.

    During the updating, the progress will be measured by white blocks. The last four blue blocks ofthe flash update process represent the BIOS boot block. The BIOS boot block is used to preventthe BIOS from becoming corrupt during programming. It should not be programmed every time.If this BIOS boot block remains intact when the BIOS becomes corrupt during programming,then you can boot from a bootable floppy next time you boot your computer. This allows you toflash your BIOS again without the need for technical support from the dealer.

    Appendix G. Hardware Monitoring (The WinbondHardware Doctor Utility)

    The Winbond Hardware Doctor is a self-diagnostic system for PCs used with Winbond W83627HFchipset. It protects PC hardware by monitoring several critical items including power supply voltages,CPU & system fan speeds and CPU and system temperatures. These items are important for the systemoperation. Errors may result in permanent damage to the PC. Once any item is out of its normal range, awarning message pops up reminding you to take proper measures.

    6. Execute the Hardware Doctor by enteringthe Windows Menu [Start] [Programs] [Winbond] [Hardware Doctor].

    7. This screen appears. Hardware Doctorshows you the status of Voltage, Fan Speed, andTemperature readings as well. If any reading iscritical or over its limitation, the reading turnsred. Also, a pop-up window appears warningyou the system has a problem!

    This is the warning message window:

    Ignore: You can ignore the warning message ofthe item, but it will pop up again when an errorof the same item reoccurs.

    Disable: The chosen item will be no longer

    monitored thereafter, unless you activate it inthe Configuration page.

    Shutdown: Choosing this button will shutdownthe computer.

    Help: You can read more information andself-diagnose simple problems.

    If the warning message pops up due to thewrong warning limit, you can adjust it in theConfiguration option. For example, if you

    set the temperature high limit to 40

    C, you willeasily exceed the proper temperature.

    Pay attention to two things when you want tomake any change to the Configuration option.Firstly, you have to make sure your new settingis in the proper range. Secondly, after youfinished the configuration, you have to save it.Otherwise, the program will start with thedefault value next time.

    If you encounter any problem or have anyquestion about the software settings andadjustments, please use the Winbond hardwaredoctor on-line help. It should give you enoughinformation to answer your questions.

    Appendix H. Troubleshooting (Need Assistance?) Q & A:Q: Do I need to clear the CMOS before I use a new motherboard to assemble my new computer

    system?

    A: Yes, we highly recommend that you clear the CMOS before installing a new motherboard. Pleasemove the CMOS jumper from its default 1-2 position to 2-3 for a few seconds, and then back. Whenyou boot up your system for the first time, follow the instructions in the user's manual to load theoptimized defaults.

    Q: If my systems hang when I update the BIOS or set the wrong CPU parameters, what should Ido?

    A: Whenever you update the BIOS or if the system hangs due to wrong CPU parameters setting, alwaysclear CMOS jumper before booting up again.
