AAMS Excellence in Community Service AwardAAMS Excellence in Community Service Award recognizes an emergency medical transport individual OR organizations demonstrating a broad-based continuing commitment to their referring/receiving agencies, and the communities they serve. The award recipient will exhibit an outstanding history of leadership or substantial involvement/partnership in customer or community-based project(s) that contribute to improving the quality of life within the communities they serve. Although eligibility requires membership with the Association of Air Medical Services, the nominated project is NOT LIMITED to practices solely in air or ground medicine. This recipient will have shown professional and personal values that typify the ideals of “giving of oneself,” and “making a difference in, or enhancing the lives of others.” We welcome projects of all sizes and scope, no matter the financial resources involved.

ELIGIBILITY: Marketing, medical, aviation, management, or any support personnel who are involved in the development and implementation of a customer or community-based project that has made a positive impact on the service community, customer base on a local, regional, national or international level. The candidate must be a member of AAMS (either Regular, Affiliate, or Personal member.) Any nomination received shall be reviewed by AAMS staff before the nomination is placed before the judges to ensure that the nominee has not been the recipient of the same award within the last three calendar years.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

A. The project should be based upon a need that was identified within their service community by the nominee. The candidate must show how the need was fulfilled through the project.

B. Detail ONE project the candidate completed from conception to implementation. The project should not be one that is focused or geared towards providing an increased transport volume or revenue for the organization but rather to make a difference in the lives of others. The project may include their service area community or referring/receiving agencies. The project will be judged on creativity or originality.

C. Illustrate the project’s clear and measurable positive impact on the service community. Submissions will be judged on how well the project met the scope of its objectives.

D. Provide documentation of leadership and long-term commitment to the service community. Documentation should show a pattern of an on-going partnership with either the service community that enhances any of the following: clinical skills, education, safety, or overall quality of life.

E. Supporting documentation must be provided. This documentation may include digital photos, digital video files, letters of support from community leaders, customers, or documents developed for the project.

AAMS Excellence in Transport Leadership AwardAAMS Excellence in Transport Leadership Award recognizes air and ground critical care transport leader who has demonstrated a superior level of knowledge and management prowess, high-quality leadership through visionary and innovative approaches, customer service, safety consciousness, marketing ingenuity, community service, commitment to the emergency medical community as a whole. (e.g., Program Director, Transport Service Director, Program Manager, Transport Service Manager, Regional Director, CEO, etc.)

ELIGIBILITY: The transport service leader must be employed by an AAMS voting member and must have held their current position for at least two years.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

A. Number of years in the position;

B. How the transport service leader has improved crew engagement at the transport service;

C. How the individual has expanded the role or scope of the transport service;

D. What improvements the individual has made;

E. How the individual relates to the staff and community;

F. And staff testimonials.

Please answer the following six to seven questions for your AAMS Excellence in Transport Leadership Award nomination:

The award may be given for an overall neonatal/pediatric-specific patient care contribution, or neonatal/pediatric transport outcome.

ELIGIBILITY: Personnel, who are involved with the transportation system of neonatal/pediatric patients, and are currently employed by AAMS Member neonatal/pediatric transport program or service. Current AAMS Member who is a neonatal/pediatric medical transport program or service.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

A. Specific improvements in the quality of neonatal/pediatric-specific medical transport;

B. The enhancement of safe neonatal/pediatric transport procedures (mitigation of risk for crew members and patients);

C. The development of neonatal/pediatric patient care;

D. The encouragement of others or contributions to the community which promote improvements in neonatal/pediatric

transport and patient care;

E. And enhancement of overall conditions under which proper neonatal/pediatric transport occurs.

B. The enhancement of safe fixed-wing transport procedures (mitigation of risk for crew members and patients);

C. The development of fixed-wing transport patient care;

D. The encouragement of others or contributions to the community which promote improvements in fixed-wing

transport and patient care;

E. And enhancement of overall conditions under which proper fixed-wing transport occurs.

Transport Mechanic Award of ExcellenceTransport Mechanic Award of Excellence recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the safe operation of medical transport vehicles or the improvement of safe maintenance procedures of medical transport vehicles.

ELIGIBILITY: Individuals who are directly involved with the maintenance operations of vehicles used by members of AAMS.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

A. Number of years in the position;

B. How the individual has added value to the medical transport service and education of the crew;

C. What improvements the individual has made;

D. How the individual relates to the staff and community (including staff testimonials);

E. And this individual must have made a direct impact on the safety of a transport vehicle or implemented a safety

program or procedure that enhances the welfare of the medical team and patients in transport.

Barbara A. Hess Research & Education AwardBarbara A. Hess Research & Education Award recognizes an individual who has significantly contributed to the enhancement, development, and promotion of the emergency medical industry through their research or educational efforts.

ELIGIBILITY: Medical, aviation or support personnel who have published, conducted research or provided quality education or educational expertise which has contributed to the emergency medical transport community on a local, regional, national or international level. The candidate must be employed by a member of AAMS (either voting, or affiliate), or must be a personal member of AAMS.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

A. Number of articles, chapters or books published;

ELIGIBILITY: The service must have been in operation for at least five (5) years in the medical transport community (rotor wing, fixed wing, or critical care ground) and a current voting member of AAMS.
