ISSUE 1NEW WORK HEAVY DUTYCOASTAL GLOSS FINISH COPYRIGHT

1 GENERAL

This system details the coating of structural steelwork, plate work, mechanical equipment,and structures situated in a coastal mining and plant environment. This system has goodweathering, colour and gloss retention. The system is excellent for general plantapplication and in areas of splash and spillage of most chemicals.

2 REQUIREMENTS

This system shall be applied in accordance with the requirements of AA Specification164050. It is imperative that this document has been read prior to the commencement ofany application.

For patch priming and repair of transit and erection damage use epoxy mastic.

Finish painting shall be performed after erection.

3 SURFACE PREPARATION

Abrasive blast clean to a near white finish in accordance with SA 2 of ISO 8501-1 to

obtain a surface profile of 45 to 65m.

4 APPLICATION

Prime : One complete coat of epoxy primer. DFT shall be 75 to 150m.

Intermediate : One complete coat of epoxy DFT shall be 125 to 200m.

Finish : One complete coat of high build polyurethane. DFT shall be 50 to 70m.

Repair : Epoxy mastic. DFT shall be equal to or shall exceed the thickness of theoriginal or damaged coating.

The total DFT of the system shall be 250 to 420m.

Note : Individual coating materials supplied from different manufacturers havetheir own particular build characteristic.

It is the responsibility of the applicator to assure that he can achievethe required DFT of any given coat in a single application. If multi-coatsare required, they shall be applied within the re-coat restrictions of thatparticular coating and all additional labour shall be for the sole accountof the applicator.

The preferred shape of the Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO) pigment shallbe of the lamellar type.
