SWACHHTA HI SEVA
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) (Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) or Clean India
Mission in English) is a campaign in India that aims to clean up the streets, roads and
infrastructure of India's cities, smaller towns, and rural areas.
As per the Cir.No.8/04/CCEAP/Extracurricular activities/AC-3/2018-
19,Dated:14.092018 of the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, the college initiated
“Swachhta Hi Seva” Programme from Sep 15 2018 to Oct 02 2018. All the NSS Programme
Officers and Associated NCC Officers are actively took part in the Programme with 500 NSS
Volunteers and 250 NCC cadets. Various programmes like Mass Awareness rallies on ODF,
Plastic Ban, solid and liquid waste management, clean & green, Cleanliness Drive in Bus
Stands and Railway Stations etc. were carried out during the program.

AWARENESS RALLY REGARDING PLASTIC BAN
In our modern lives, plastic has become part of us. However, the convenience of these
plastic bags come at a very high cost to the environment and negatively affects human health.
Several cities globally have begun banning the use of plastic bags while some have enforced
restricted laws against the use of plastic bags because of the negative effects of the use of
their usage.
On 12 Aug 2018 a massive rally was conducted by the college in association with
Municipal Corporation of Rajamahendravaram with a large number of NCC cadets and NSS
volunteers. The first citizen of the city Smt., Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai, Mayor of the city, Sub
Collector Shri Saikanth Varma, IAS, Municipal commissioner Shri Sumit Kumar IAS were
graced the occasion.

VANAM – MANAM PROGRAMME
The government of Andhra Pradesh had launched the Vanam Manam programme on 29
July in hope of improving the green cover in the state at least by 50 percent. At present, the
green cover in the state is at 26 percent and the idea is to improve that by 2029.
As part of this initiative and as per the orders of Commissionerate of Colligate
Education, the college took active participation in the Vanam – Manam Programme and tree
plantation was done in the college campus on July 18 2018 and July 21 2018. Nearly 250
Plants were planted in the campus. 25 Lecturers and 200 students were participated in the tree
plantation programme. All the planted saplings were geo-tagged for monitoring on regular
basis.

SWACHH BHARAT SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
While addressing the nation on the 43rd edition of Mann Ki Baat, a monthly radio
programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the government’s
special summer internship linked to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He urged the college
students, NCC Cadets, NSS Jawans, students of Nehru Yuva Kendra and other youngsters to
join the internship and contribute towards a clean India. The objective of this internship
programme is to engage the youth across the country and develop their skill and orientation
for sanitation related work, amplify mass awareness on cleanliness
In response to this the 12 NCC cadets of the college have conducted various programs
in the adopted village “Pidimgoyyi” from 16 June 2018 to 30 June 2018 and rendered 100
hours of Shramdan. As part of the Programme cadets conducted awareness rallies on ODF,
solid and liquid waste management, the cleanliness and hygiene.

NAVA NIRMANA DEEKSHA
Another innovative initiative by the Government of Andhra Pradesh is Nava
Nirmaana Deeksha, which a week long program is being held to inspire people of Andhra
Pradesh, and call their participation for overall development of the State. Various themes have
been given by the government for each day. Under the programme, people across the state are
taking oath for reconstruction of the state and to work towards its development. The programme
is being held at government offices and public places
As per the call given by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the college actively took
part in the Nava Nirmana Deeksha from 02 June 2018 to 08 June 2018 by adopting 10 nearby
villages/wards namely Rajendra Nagar and Nehru Nagar, Weavers Colony, Hukumpeta,
Kolamuru, Gadala, katheru, Narayana puram , Lalitha Nagar & Veerabhadrapuram.
On 06 June 2018 college has grandly celebrated “Jnana Bhoomi – Upadhi Kalpana”
theme. Nearly 400 students and 50 Staff members actively Participated in the programme. A
gamut of people including Honourable Shri Ganni Krishna, GUDA Chairman, Rajahmundry,
Rajahmundry City Mayor Smt. Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai. Books were distributed to the students
of the Weavers colony municipal High School. Navanirmana Deeksha Brochure was also
released on the occasion.

RAINWATER HARVESTING PITS
Rainwater harvesting is a technique used for collecting, storing and
using rainwater for landscape irrigation and other uses. The rainwater is collected from
various hard surfaces such as rooftops and/or other manmade aboveground hard surfaces.
Rainwater harvesting is one of the simplest and oldest methods of self-supply of water for
households
In the month of May & June 2018, the college installed the 3 Rainwater harvesting
pits in the various places of the college, to collect the excess of rain water to sink the ground
hence by increasing the water table. The pits are jointly maintained by the departments of
Botany and Zoology.

DRY WASTAGE COLLECTING SHED
Large amount of dry waste segregates in the college campus every day as the total
strength of the college crosses 4000. Besides, staff of the college, visitors, and walkers
contribute for mounting of dry waste. To overcome the problem, in the month July 2018, the
college has constructed Dry wastage collecting shed, to collect the Dry waste like Plastic
wastage, Paper Wastage, Glass wastage. The shed is maintained jointly by the departments of
Botany and Zoology. It was brought into usage for the first time on 26 July 2018. 25 Lecturers
and 70 Students were participated in the programme. Once in a week the NCC cadets and NSS
Volunteers collect the dry wastage in the college campus and store it in the shed.

The shed is divided in 6 blocks two each for Glass wastage, two for paper wastage and two
for plastic wastage.

FOOD WASTAGE COLLECTING PLATFORM
In the month July 2018, the college has constructed Food wastage collecting Platform, to collect
the food wastage like fruits, Vegetables, rice wastage generated from the various hostels in the
college campus. The shed is maintained regularly by the departments of Botany and Zoology
combined. It was brought into usage on 26 July 2018. 25 Lecturers and 70 Students were
participated in the programme.

JANMABHOOMI – MAA VURU PROGRAMME
With an aim to reach to the people and create awareness about the government
initiatives, the government would celebrate 5th round Janmabhoomi Maa Vuru from January 2 to
11, 2018.
As per the instructions of Government of Andhra Pradesh the college has participated
in the “Janmabhoomi- Maa Vuru” Programme from 02 Jan 2018 to 11-02 -2018 in the adopted
villages of the college. The college has carried out various awareness programmes like “ODF”,
“Health and Fitness”, “Sports”, “Achievements in Higher Education” Sectors. All NSS
Programme officers (5), NCC officers (2), NCC cadets (250) and NSS Volunteers (500).

MASS ODF RALLY
Open defecation is the human practice of defecating outside (in the open environment) rather
than into a toilet. Open defecation can pollute the environment and cause health problems. High
levels of open defecation are linked to high child mortality, poor nutrition, poverty, and large
disparities between rich and poor.
In order to create awareness among the public on 18 Dec 2017 a Mass ODF rally was conducted
by college NSS Programme officers in association with Adikavi Nannaya University NSS cell.

SWACHHTA PAKHWADA
As per the orders of DG NCC, the college NCC wing carried out Swachhta Pakhwada from Dec
01 2017 to Dec 15 2018. All 250 cadets and NCC & NSS officers actively participated in the
programme. Various competitions like Painting on Swachhta, Elocution on “the contribution of
self to keep city clean”, Skits on “Swachhta” are conducted during this 15 days schedule.

SWACHHTA ABHIYAN ON THE OCCASION OF NCC DAY
On the occasion of NCC day (last Sunday of every November) the NCC cadets conducted

GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATIONS
On the Occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 02 Oct 2017 massive rally was organised by the
college in connection with “Swachhta” and 2500 students participated in the rally along with
all the teaching and non-teaching staff members.

called “Domalapi Dandayatra” is carried out on sep 25 2017 by college and the NCC cadets and

Vanam –Manam Programme was conducted on a large scale in the college campus on 09
Aug 2017. The entire staff and students participated in the college in this programme ,
cleaned the campus and many plants were planted on this occasion.

OUTCOME REPORT
➢ Swachhta Hi Sewa -The students are trained to practice the “clean & green activities
regularly in their personal & social life.
➢ Due to awareness rallies like on “Plastic ban” college succeeded in spreading the message to
public about hazards of uncontrolled plastic usage and its impact on global warming.
➢ With the programmes like “Vanam – Manam”, the college is able to balance the eco system
and to increase the greenery in the campus.
➢ With “Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Programme”, the college educated the people of
Adopted villages about Cleanliness and Personal hygiene and also helped the villagers in
maintenance village streets and drains so as to keep the environment of the village clean.
➢ College succeeded in spreading the true aims of “Nava Nirmana Deeksha” in adopted
villages and among the college students also.
➢ The building of rain harvesting pits balances the ground water and aimed to fulfil the water
needs in summer.
➢ Dry wastage collecting Shed is a best practice to segregate the Dry wastage from wet waste
and is a best example of Dry wastage management.
➢ Food wastage collecting Platform enables the college to prepare vermi compost manure.
➢ Janmabhoomi – maa vuru programme created awareness among students and public in the
adopted villages regarding work for the promotion and strengthening of villages.
➢ Mass ODF rally created a huge awareness among the public about the personal hygiene.
➢ Swachhta Pakhwada is helped as a continuous training programmes for the students to inbuilt
the true spirit of Swachhta.
➢ Swachhta Abhiyan become a regular part of NCC & NSS training activities and preparing the
students to keep the college environment Clean and Green.
➢ Tree plantation is a regular activity practiced by the college during rainy season for the
environment enrich and conservation. The rally on “Domalapai Dandayatra” helped in creating
the awareness among the students and public about seasonal diseases caused by mosquitoes and
flies.
➢ Through Swachhta Hi Sewa Rally on the occasion “Gandhi Jayanti”, college reached to
public with message of “Importance of Swachhta in Gandhiji’s life” and its present requirement
in our life.
