ABOUT THE INSTITUTE:

The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan),(formerly NIMH) established in 1984 has so far trained more than 13,000 professionals and personnel in 07 different long-term programmes recognized by RCI and affiliated to different Universities. NIEPID has organized many international and national conferences. In the continuous rehabilitation education programmes, more than one lakh rehabilitation and health professionals, personnel and government officials participated. It has a team of highly qualified faculty members and specialists of various disciplines who are engaged not only in these HRD activities but also in the research and development programmes, some of which are in collaboration with international organizations.

These objectives apart, NIEPID has developed service models and contributed very significantly in the dissemination and documentation. The performance in the extension and outreach programmes is excellent covering large areas across the country. It is a “Vision”, “Mission” and “Value” driven organization having work culture appropriate to higher education. The Institute is a “Learning Organization”. ABOUT THE COURSE AND ITS GENERAL OBJECTIVES

M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology: The course is designed to create a cadre of highly competent Professionals / Specialists at the Master Trainer level in the field of Rehabilitation Psychology.

Rehabilitation psychology is emerging as a forceful and dynamic discipline in the disability rehabilitation area which however has yet to establish in an organized manner. Hence, there is a basic need to train professionals at high level of competence.

Rehabilitation psychologists qualified at M.Phil level can undertake large number of long term training programmes at different levels for delivery of services in the field of disability to meet the enormous demands of rehabilitation professionals and personnel in the country.

As a part of human resource development and creation of skilled manpower with excellence in the field of disability, M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology programme was initiated. The course is modeled after the M.Phil programme in Clinical Psychology offered by NIMHANS and Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi. This model has been time tested and perhaps the only available model in

existence in India for pursuing advanced studies for those who have already obtained master’s degree in psychology or equivalent qualification.

This course is different from regular M.Phil course and hence the pattern of teaching and examination will vary accordingly. The regular M.Phil course is an academic and research oriented course while this course focuses on practical experience in Rehabilitation Psychology. The passed out candidates of this course can work as practitioners and master trainers in the field. OVERALL AIM AND GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE Aim:

The aim of M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology course is to create professionals with high quality competencies to work as master trainers/specialists in the field of disability. General Objectives:

The course is organized as rigorous two year programme with extensive theoretical inputs and

intensive practical skills in disability rehabilitation.

The function of rehabilitation psychologist will involve a convergence of three roles, namely, Clinician, Counsellor, and Social/Community Psychologist.

On completion of the course, the trainees are expected to perform the following functions:

Screening and early identification of persons with disabilities. Comprehensive psychological assessment and diagnosis of persons with disabilities. Apply psychological principles and techniques in rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. Work towards social and community integration of persons with disabilities. Undertake research in the areas of disability and rehabilitation psychology. Undertake teaching assignments in rehabilitation psychology

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum educational requirement for admission to this course will be M.A./M.Sc. degree in Psychology from a University recognized by the UGC with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. For SC/ST category, minimum of 50% marks in aggregate is essential. INTAKE CAPACITY:14

Reservation will be applied as per the rules of Government of India For Foreign Nationals

13. As part of the RCI syllabus norms (3.6) the students need to be placed in other National Government or Private Institutions for exposure in other disabilities. The placement cost has to be borne by the students itself in each first and second year of M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology course. NOTE:- ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE: - Candidates admitted in the course have to submit Eligibility Certificate from Osmania University (students from other than Osmania University) within 15 days from date of joining. If the candidate fails to submit the same, the admission will be cancelled duly forfeiting the amount paid by them.

♦ Original certificates deposited will not be released during the course and students are advised to keep sufficient number of photo copies before submission of original certificates to office at the time of admission.

The candidates once admitted in the course will not be allowed to leave the course under any

circumstances. If the candidate still desires to leave the course by any reason, the total fee and deposits paid by the candidate will be forfeited.

HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION:

Limited shared hostel accommodation is available for both men and women candidates and will be provided to outstation candidates on first-come-first-served basis. The candidate has to pay a nominal charge of Rs. 600/- per month towards electricity, water, room rent and maintenance service. You are required to pay Rs.1500/- as hostel deposit which will be refunded at the end of the course, after deducting amounts for damages if any, caused by the candidate. DISCIPLINE: The candidates admitted shall be subjected to strict discipline inside and outside the campus and also in the hostel where accommodation is provided. The candidates are expected to maintain decorum, decency and discipline throughout their pursuance of the course with the staff, faculty, co-students and other supporting workers. The hostellers should follow the prescribed rules in the hostel and infringement or violation thereof shall result in rustication from the hostel for a period as decided by the management of the Institute. Use of cell phones during working hours is strictly prohibited. Ragging is a crime and is prohibited under law. Anyone found indulging in ragging will be isolated and punished by the management and law enforcing authorities as the case may be.

CENTRAL GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR TOP CLASS EDUCATION FOR SC/ST STUDENTS: The SC/ST students should submit the documents of caste & income certificates at the time of admission it self to enable Academic Section to initiate forwarding application for Top Class Education Scheme within prescribed time, listed in guidelines by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi. Part – I ( I Year) Group – “A” Paper – I : Psychosocial Perspectives of Disability Paper – II : Biological Perspectives of Disability Paper – III : Statistics and Research Methods Practical : Psycho diagnostic Assessments of Persons with Disability and Viva Voce Group – “B” Submission : Five full-length Psycho diagnostic Assessment of Persons with Disability. The records should include a summary of the clinical history organized under relevant headings, and a discussion on

a) rationale for psychological assessments, b) areas to be investigated, c) tests administered and their rationale, d) test findings and e) impression.

Part – II ( II Year) Group – “A” Paper – I : Psychological Interventions Paper – II : Behavioral Interventions Paper – III : Community – Based Rehabilitation Practical : Psychosocial Interventions for Persons with Disability and Viva Voce Group – “B” Submission : Five fully worked-out Psychosocial Interventions

Records of Persons with Disability. The records should include a summary of the clinical history organized under relevant headings, and a discussion on a) reasons for intervention(s), b) areas to be focused including short and long-term objectives, c) approach and technique/s of intervention employed and rationale, d) interventions processes, e) changes in therapy or objectives, if any, and reasons for the same, f) outcome, g) integration strategies employed, h) future plans

Group – “C” Dissertation : Every student has to take up a research project on a topic of practical relevance and undertake the study using appropriate research methodology and statistical analysis and submit the project report. Submission of the project work is essential before appearing for the final examinations.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE: Admission is given on the basis of merit obtained by the candidates in the entrance examination and followed by counselling/interview conducted as per the rules and regulations of Osmania University. Candidates are advised to see the eligibility criteria before applying. Once all the 14 seats are filled up at NIMH, Secunderabad the remaining candidates in the merit list will be referred to other Institutes offering the same course for admission. DURATION OF THE COURSE:

The duration of the course will be two years, year end exams

MINIMUM ATTENDANCE REQUIRED:

As this is a professional course, the students should pursue the course of the study continuously. A minimum attendance of 80% in each of the theory and practical papers separately shall be necessary before taking the respective examination. However, a relaxation of 10% attendance or as per the existing rule of the University will be condoned on medical grounds.

RESERVATION OF SEATS: Out of 14 seats, reservation in respect of SC/ST/OBC and for those with Physical Handicap with locomotor disability with one limb as per Persons with Disability (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 will be provided as per the Govt. of India guidelines. Affiliation & Award of Certificate: M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology will be issued to the successful students by Osmania University, to which this course is affiliated.

ENCLOSURES WITH THE APPLICATION:

All the following documents should be enclosed along with the application form, failing which your application will not be considered.

a) A Master degree certificate or any other equivalent examination prescribed as eligible qualification. Marks/ Grade statement of the examination (Attested copy)

b) Conduct certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended (Attested copy).

c) SSC or matriculation certificate as proof of date of birth (Attested copy).

d) Three Passport size recent photographs. One copy to be affixed to the application form and two to be affixed to the admission card and identity card for Entrance Examination. The candidate's full name, age, sex and signature at appropriate places both on admit card and identity card must be written. The Venue of Examination Centre and Roll No. columns will be completed by the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan), Secunderabad.

e) In case of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe and OBC, Certificate of Social Status should be obtained from the authority competent to issue such certificate.

f) If the candidate is a person with disability a certificate from the certifying authority prescribed

by the Government should be produced. g) Candidate's name and complete postal address with Pin Code should be written on the

envelope enclosed along with the identity card and admit card. The Entrance Examination Admit Card will be sent to the applicant in this envelope.

No Candidate will be admitted without the submission of original transfer certificate (T.C) or proof of admission if he/she is pursuing a course at the time of counselling.

The candidates admitted and undergoing different courses will have to submit the TC from the present course within seven (7) days failing which the admission will be deemed to be cancelled. INSTRUCTIONS

01. The admit card must be shown to the Officer supervising the Examination. 02. A candidate without the valid admit card shall be debarred from taking the examination. 03. This card should be preserved till the admission is over. 04. No traveling expenses will be paid for the journey for appearing in the Entrance Examination 05. Violation of instruction and adoption of any unfair means in the examination hall shall render a

candidate liable for cancellation of his/her script and forfeiture of his/her claim for admission. Decision of the Officer Incharge of the Examination centre shall be final.

06. No Candidate shall be allowed or admitted to the Examination hall half an hour after the

commencement of the examination. So also, no candidate will be permitted to leave the Examination Hall till the expiry of at least one and half an hour after the question paper has been given out.

07. No candidate without the permission of the invigilator shall leave his/her seat in the middle of

the Examination. 08. Strict silence should be maintained in the examination hall. Any candidate found guilty of

disorderly or improper behaviour will be liable to expulsion from the examination hall. 09. Candidates are strictly prohibited from smoking in the examination hall. 10. Candidates should sign when required to do so by the invigilator. 11. Candidates are prohibited from writing their names on any part of the answer book. They

should write their Roll Number both in the question booklet as well as in the answer booklet. 12. Except marking on the appropriate place in the answer column nothing else should be written

on the book. Rough work may be carried out on the blank pages provided for the purpose. 13. No sheet should be detached from the book. The Book should be returned intact at the end of

the examination. 14. Candidates should not leave the hall without handing over their answer books to the invigilator. 15. Candidates appearing at Entrance Examination of the institute are under the disciplinary

control of the Invigilator and are required to obey his/her instruction. 16. Use of Cell phone during the examination is strictly prohibited.
