PACKER INSERTS & ENERGIZERS1.0 PACKER/ENERGIZER CHARACTERISTICS Materials - Packers, packer inserts, and energizers are available in a great variety of sizes and materials to meet specific applications for coiled tubing stripper packers. Urethane - The longest wearing material. It is tough and will tolerate abuse. It has a wide operating temperature range, but performance deteriorates rapidly as the temperature approaches 200F. Nitrile - The most common oilfield rubber compound. Very good oil and water resistance. Nitrile has a higher temperature range than urethane, however the abrasion wear characteristics are not as good as urethane. Viton - Excellent resistance to most oil and gas well chemicals. Good resistance to gas permeation. Higher temperature operating range. Resistance to abrasion wear is not as good as urethane or nitrile. EPDM - Excellent resistance to steam and geothermal hot water fluids. Will not tolerate oil. Abrasion wear characteristics similar to viton. Extrusion/Wear Bushings - In general a higher Shore A hardness number will indicate longer abrasive wear and greater resistance to high pressure extrusion. However with a specific material the compounding can be changed to extend the temperature range and alter the wear characteristics. The single greatest improvement in resistance to high pressure extrusion is to limit the extrusion gap. High pressure operations require frequent inspection, and replacement of the wear bushings. To combat extrusion several of the packers or energizers will be made of a dual hardness compound. The harder compound will be a different color. Easy Identification - Whenever possible, the various compounds are color coded for easy field identification. Generally the color identifies a specific compound and will have the same characteristics throughout the various sizes. The packers and energizers can be used in many different combinations in the various sizes and ratings of Texas Oil Tools stripper packers, as well as other brands of products. In order to find a part either from part number, or to find a part number from coiled tubing size, the following pages chart the parts in tubing size sequence and again in part number sequence.

1390 Rev. APACKER INSERTS & ENERGIZERSDescription Energizer for 2.50" side door S/P. Permits use of "Standard" 2.50" O.D. x 4.00" long packer inserts. Energizer with a spring molded inside. The "standard" energizer that fits all Texas Oil Tools 2.50" stripper packers and Bowen and Otis single and double action hydraulic strippers. Packer developed for Arctic service. A hard long wearing compound that has good flexibility down to -30F. Developed for the 4.06" stripper packer to be used inside the 8412-3743 4.06" energizer. When used in the 2.50" stripper packer it replaces both the 8006-3730 energizer and packer inserts. Obsolete. Replaced by 8103-1835/41 Packer Insert the "standard" for long wear.

Packer for steam or hot water ONLY, it will not tolerate any oil, even for lubrication. Replaces both the energizer and packer Insert. Packer for high temperature oil, gas, chemicals, or solvents. Replaces both the energizer and packer insert. The "Standard" packer insert. Pale yellow color.

Energizer for 4.06" DS84 stripper packer, used with the 4.00" O.D. packer insert. Blue with red ends. Energizer for 4.06" DS84 S/P. Same dimensions and material as 8412-3744 except with coil spring molded into the full length. Energizer, 5.50" O.D. for 4.06" stripper packer. Split for 4.06" side door S/P. Optional for 4.06" DS84 S/P. Packer replaces both packer & energizer in 2.50" S/P. The large volume of packer material provides extra material for the longest wear life. The additional cost per unit is offset by the greater number of feet of tubing that can be run.

Description Energizer. NOTE: Has a larger 2.75" I.D. to accommodate a Packer Insert with a larger O.D. in order to increase the amount of material available for wear in the 1.50" coiled tubing size. Has a spring molded inside. Must be used only on a stripper packer with a double acting hydraulic pack-off. Packer, has a larger O.D. to give more material for wear. Used with energizer 8604-3140. Very long abrasive wear characteristics. Packer, 2.50" O.D. Alternative to 8103-1835/41 NOTE: Must be used with Energizer 8006-3730.
