Problem 01: Wrap It Up
1.0 INTRODUCTION:
In this experiment, we have carried out a simple experiment to prepare a prescription for the
patient.
2.0 AIMS/OBJECTIVES:
The objective is to prepare the powder dosage form following a prescription and dispense the
prescribed preparation.
3.0 MATERIALS AND METHODS:

to be mixed.
2. Select a suitably sized mortar and pestle.
3. © lace all of the in¢ redients with the smallest quantity into the mortar (in this case, the
acti
ated charcoal powder).
4. A dd approximately an equal amount of the in¢
redient with the second smallest quantity
(in this case, the lactose). Triturate li¢
htly until a unif orm mixture is obtained.
5. epeat the process until all in¢ redients have been incorporated.
6.
epeat similarly if there are more than 2 in¢
redients.
3.21 Part B:Wrapping the powders
1. A rran
e the paper so that the lon
edges and parallel to the f ront of the bench.
2. Turn up the long edge to about one-seventh of its width.
3. Weigh out the powder and place the powder towards the f ront of the paper.
4. Fold the paper over and slide below the turn-up edge.
5. Fold the turn-up edge until it covers about two-thirds of the distance to the edge of thepac
et.
6. Turn the edges under the pac
et.
7. Firm the edges using a spatula but avoid excessi ve pressure, which would cause the
powder to cake.
8. The packets are best packed inpairs, flap to flap, restrained with an elastic band.
In a well wrapped product, there should not be any powders within the flaps or f olds. When
opened by the user, the powder should appear in the centre of the paper f or easy administration.

Discussi
n:
Precautions:
y Ensure that there are no wind and water close to our preparation
y Ensure that things are placed further apart from our preparation area so that we would not
knock over anything
y Wear gloves at all times when handling the various materials and equipment
Some mistakes that we made:
y Weighing machine wasn·t properly calibrated resulting in wrong measurements
y We thought that we only need to prepare 200mg per packetand had changed the
measurements accordingly.
5.0 CONCLUSION
Through the different parts of the experiment that we have conducted today, we have learnt, as a
team, to titrate the powdered prescription. Through the process of compounding, we also learnt
about how to do geometric dilution.
