A2PBEER [Affordable and Adaptable Public Buildings through Energy Efficient Retrofitting] Duration: 54 Months [September 2013 – February 2018] LIT Project Budget: €262,000 Total Project Budget: €6.5 Million Summary: A2PBEER is a four-year research project partially financed by the 7th Framework Programme and seeks to develop a cost effective, “energy efficient retrofitting” methodology for public buildings, drawing on the expertise of over 21 partners from 11 European countries. The focus of the project is to develop integrated systems for the efficient retrofitting of non-residential buildings with a focus on public buildings. It will include the monitoring and retrofitting of 3 demonstration sites in Malmo, Sweden, Ankara, Turkey and Bilbao, Spain using innovative technological solutions. It is intended that developing prototypes which include, high performance Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIP) kits for the envelope, innovative reversible windows, integrated fibre optic lighting and smart dual thermal networks, will reduce the energy consumption by 50%. A blended training programme and development of a retrofitting support guide and financial toolkit are produced to assist with the training skills and replicability of these prototypes across all public buildings in Europe. The Aims and Objectives of the A2PBEER Project are as follows: To demonstrate that current Near Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) requirements can be achieved in public buildings through already available, affordable and adaptable technologies. To develop, demonstrate and evaluate an innovative systemic retrofitting methodology for Public Building and District and different solutions Kits into the Demonstration Building or District. To develop a new methodology and solutions, that could easily be adapted into any climate condition and typology of Public Building. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Union Seventh Framework Programme FP7/2007-2013 under grant agreement no 609060.

LIT Activities (Development Unit):

Coordinate and manage all project dissemination and knowledge transfer activities to a high level of quality by developing a website and disseminating through social media, videos and published articles.

Develop and implement a training programme which will result in a minimum of 8 trainers trained, who in turn will train between 150 and 300 stakeholders in the field of energy efficient building and construction in workshops around Europe.

Promote the activities and results of the project to all relevant stakeholders at a regional, national and European level. To carry out transfer of knowledge through seminars and the final conference.
