Call (908) 654-6091 Area Psychiatrist to Discuss Depression-Bipolar Disorders AREA — The Depression and Bi- polar Support Alliance (DBSA) will feature at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 31, Jeffrey Wolff, M.D., who trained at New York Uni- versity, Bellevue and Downstate Medi- cal Center. He is board certified in psychiatry and has practiced in Morristown for more than 20 years. The subject of Dr. Wolff’s talk will be “Ruling out medical problems that can worsen or cause mood disorders.” In addition, he will discuss the role of genetic testing in the management of psychiatric illness. Attendees also will have an open forum with Dr. Wolff to discuss mood disorders. These educational meetings of the DBSA take place on a Wednesday every month, at 7:45 p.m., using the facilities of the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, located at 21 Normandy Heights Road, about one block east of the Morris Museum, in Morristown. The public is invited to attend all meet- ings; a nominal donation is requested from non-members, when possible. Free literature is available to all at- tendees and there is an extensive lend- ing library of educational audiotapes, CDs and videotapes, also free. In addition to the lecture series, peer group support sessions led by experienced facilitators are held every Tuesday evening of the month, also using the facilities of the Morristown Unitarian Fellow- ship in Morristown, at 7:30 p.m. Separate groups for young adults are held every Tuesday evening and separate groups for friends and family are held periodically. Blair Corbin’s Walk Down Memory Lane Raiders Blue Devils Cougars 8-1-1 Westfield High School girls’ soccer team, No. 16 in The Star- Ledger, overwhelmed the Roselle Catholic Lions, 4-0, in the first round of the Union County Tournament at Kehler Stadium. Forward Tara Handza, Samantha Costello, junior defender Grace Mackenzie and jun- ior midfielder Robyn Knapp each netted a goal. October 11, 2008: After a 3-4 start, the Raider boys soccer team reeled off six wins and a tie after inflicting visiting Union Catholic with a 5-0 setback in the first round of the Union County Tournament. Junior Matt Greaney and sophomore Rory Szeto each fired in a pair of goals and junior Brendon McEvoy notched one goal. October 5, 2007: Blue Devil sophomore Jenna Rodrigues won the all-around title for the second straight year as the eighth-ranked Westfield High School gymnastics team suc- cessfully defended its title at the Cou- gar Invitational meet in Cranford. The Blue Devils had their best perfor- mance of the year with a 107.875 to easily top last year’s total of 105.575 at the meet. October 14, 2006: The Raider foot- ball team maintained its average of allowing just one TD per game by dazing the Linden Tigers, 14-7, in Scotch Plains. Senior running back Greg Brand rolled off 62 yards on 15 carries, including a one-yard TD blast. Junior tight end Keith Baker stunned the Tigers when he snagged a pass and galloped 80-yards to pay dirt in the fourth quarter. Additionally, he made 17 cracking tackles, including two sacks. Westfield won 30-6. soccer team shelled her area with 15 first-half shots – 9 meaningful – and 12 more in the second half en route to a 6-0 shutout of the Tigers at Kehler Stadium. Corrine Parkinson led a pinching attack and netted two goals. Erica Ammermuller, Julie Shelman, Tara Handza (2 assists) and Erin McCarthy each put in a goal and Christina Cognetti had an assist. October 15, 2005: With one minute remaining in the football game, the Blue Devils were driving toward a score, but defensive back Simon Smith made a diving interception at the 10-yard line to preserve a 13-10 Cougar victory. Junior Blue Devil halfback Ryan Yarusi had two recep- tions for 75 yards, one good for 55 yards and a TD. Quarterback Nick DeRosa completed eight of 21 at- tempts for 153 yards and a TD, while being intercepted once. October 16, 2005: Raider junior Brian Meredith has been acknowl- edged as being one of the finest boys soccer goalkeepers in the state. How- ever, Raider Head Coach Tom Breznitsky’s decision to pull him from goal and onto the field of play worked out like a charm. Meredith scored both goals to help the third-seeded Raiders (9-2) overwhelm Governor Livingston, 2-0, in the first round of the Union County Tournament in Scotch Plains. October 16, 2004: The hosting Raider football team tempered the sting of the Passaic Valley Hornets, 14-12. Halfback Lakiem Lockery scored both Raider TDs and rushed for 178 yards on 24 carries. October 16, 2004: Persistent pres- sure from Viking striker Mike Seamon and a header three minutes into over- time by sweeper Brian Osbahr gave Union Catholic a 2-1 victory over the Blue Devils in the opening round of the Union County Tournament in Scotch Plains.
