A Vow to Cherish

‘A Vow to Cherish’ is a movie about a married couple, wherein the wife suffers from Alzheimer’s and other problems were also encountered by the family, like John’s business is failing. Also their marriage is threatened when John meets a woman during one of his jogging. Their daughter Terri is also finding it difficult to cope with her mother’s illness.

When all of this turmoil has taken a toll on John, he confided all of it to seek advice from his friend Alexander. Alexander then brought him to this Religion Convention and realized that he indeed needed help. After that he asked God for forgiveness and help to face these trials.

When he got home, he went to his and Ellen’s room, where he once again recited his vow to Ellen. He also entrusted his wife to the Lord. He then went to fix things with Julia, with the latter saying: “It was your faithfulness that drew me to you and now your faithfulness that’s taking you away. He then went and talked to his brother and gave him his shares from their company. He went on taking care of Ellen.

Kyle’s wedding was shown. John and Phil, his brother, reconcile. John and Ellen walk with Kyle down the aisle. At the end John was seen pushing Ellen’s wheelchair as they stroll in the park.

It is no secret that taking care of an ill member of the family, really does take a toll on us. Each of their responses was understandable and realistic. I think that this movie did a good job in portraying the words, till death do us part. Even if their marriage is threatened in the end John came through. He learned to trust God and let Him lead his life.
