Foundation Prepares for 41st Annual Benefit Dinner

God’s ways aren’t always our ways, are they! The forty-first Annual Dinner of the Sacred Heart Foundation

will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. This will be the third year

that the Hilton Garden has hosted the event. The Dinner Committee chaired by past Board member and

you: our generous donors. Unfortunately, Fr. Natale was injured over the July 4th holiday weekend. He

required surgery and his surgeon will not approve his travel plans from his California parish assignment to

Northern New York.

So we move forward with plans for another speaker. Watch for an update on the website

and Face Book page as we confirm the availability of another MSC scholarship recipient as our

guest speaker.

Last year’s dinner sold out, so we encourage you to order your tickets early. You may purchase tickets

for the dinner from any Board or Honorary Council Member, by calling the Foundation office at (315) 782-

endowment fund. If you cannot attend, consider making a donation in lieu of a ticket purchase.

The United States province of the Missionaries of

the Sacred Heart has selected that theme "Witnessing

God's Love" for a national campaign in support of the

work of the MSC world-wide.

The Sacred Heart Foundation will benefit from the

campaign through contributions directed to the education

of men for ministry in the order.

Information about how you can be a part of the

Witnessing God’s Love campaign will be available at the

annual dinner. You will be able to take the information home to review and consider with

your financial advisor or estate lawyer who can guide you as you include appropriate

language for a gift in your will.

The gift you plan today considers the needs of our world in the future. How many

lives will be touched by your gift? How many souls will be directed to Jesus because you

helped a young man learn how to spread the Good News of the Gospel to people in need

and to serve as a minister of His love? Witness God's Love. Make your gift or pledge to

the Foundation today! God bless you.

SACRED HEART FOUNDATION

ASSOCIATES PROGRAM

The rising cost of education for those wishing to

become Missionaries of the Sacred Heart has always

been an issue of serious concern. For many young men,

funds to finance their education are just not available

from their family.

Father Pierre Aubin, MSC and a group of

community leaders from Northern New York

recognized the impact scholarship support could have

on vocations world-wide. In June of 1967 they founded

the Sacred Heart Foundation in Watertown, New York

as a Tax-Exempt Corporation whose purpose was

then, and is today, to fund those scholarships.

Where does the support to fund

these scholarships come from?

Program Categories

The invested assets of the Foundation have

grown over nearly five decades through donations large

and small from our donors and from careful

management of these donations. Foundation assets

now exceed $2.5 million. The Foundation Board takes

its fiduciary responsibility very seriously and is very

protective of these assets ensuring the Foundation can

provide scholarships for years to come.

To recognize the extraordinary generosity of

supporters of the Sacred Heart Foundation, the

Directors established an Associates Program which

consists of seven categories of donors.

The top category is the Scholarship Society. Its members have donated $15,000 or more to the

Foundation. In recognition of this donation level,

scholarships awarded each year are identified with the

donor’s name or the name of a loved one as indicated

by the donor.

It’s Dinner Book Tribute Time Space is still available in the dinner booklet for

Memorial Tributes to deceased friends and relatives

or a Special Tribute to honor a living relative or

friend.

If you have remembered someone in the past, a

renewal form iwas mailed to you. We hope you will

renew your tribute in the 2014 book.

If you haven’t included a tribute in past years,

we invite you to use the coupon below. Please mail

your completed form with payment or credit card

information to the SHF office by August 15th.

Thinking of You

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Canadian and United

States communities of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) as a province in its own

right. The threat of war in Europe added urgency to the transfer of governance to communities

in the Americas.

The MSC had been present in Watertown since 1875, at that

time the first community outside France. The missionaries established

the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish by 1878 and were joined by the

Sisters of St. Josephs in 1881 to open a school.

The MSC take great pride in their status as missionaries and are mindful of being sent: “As the

Father has sent me, so I send you” (Jn 20:21). Although they serve the poorest among us worldwide, they

have been particularly active in Micronesia and Melanesia, the very last regions on earth to be evangelized.

There will be a number of events to commemorate the 75th anniversary. There was a celebratory

mass on June 1st, a reception and open house, and a mass on July 19th with Father Mark McDonald, a

Watertown native and the Superior General of the MSC, as celebrant remembering the late MSC Father

Benoit Dostie.
