    A TRI MONTHLY NEWS LETTER

    (July to September, 2018)

    From the Desk of Principal…

    Teaching V/S Learning

Nowadays teachers in the school as well as parents spend most

of the time teaching and Re-teaching the lessons to their students

    and the children.

The students hardly get a very little time on the regular academic

days to learn. It almost gives an impression that as if teaching is

the ultimate purpose of the school education while it is actually

    expected to be learning.

Generally a teacher in a period of 40 minutes keep teaching,

reading , writing & speaking for almost 35 minutes or more and

make the children mere spectators and copy writers.

Under this given practice the students do not get freedom and

opportunity to express their skills and potentials.

The children are able to develop their skill of expression and

learn through reading, writing and speaking only if they are

given time and opportunity to express their thoughts and

    understanding.

The people involved in the school education not only need to

realize that the purpose of schooling is not just teaching but

learning of students under the guidance and direction of

    teachers.

It is a clear fact that even if a student is taught by 10 expert

teachers the same subject and the same topic for 10 times, there

is no guarantee that the student will be able to get 10 out of 10

marks in a class test, whereas, if there is one good teacher who

teaches the students once and permit the students to have

sufficient time to read, write, speak and practice the same topic

for 10 times he/she is almost sure to secure 10 marks out of 10.

The teachers need to limit their teaching and provide sufficient

time to enable the students, to understand the topic or the lesson,

permitting them to practice the same until the students learn it

and make it their own knowledge.

The most unfortunate plight of the school education today is the

overemphasis on private tuitions. A child after having completed

Six to Seven hours of mentally

Head breaking experience at the school under goes the pressure

of the tuitions after short break of less than 2 hours in the

    afternoon.

The students are taught by the tutors either the same lesson or

often different lessons of the same subject during the same days.

The students find it very hard to complete their daily homework

and read the daily lessons even once.

If he has to do so, he has to find the time late in the evening

only after his daily morning school and afternoon tuitions. That

means, after 12 to 14 hours of rigorous intellectual exercise and

the physical agony of being seated in the classrooms, he or she

ventures to learn the lessons of the day late at night wherein he

or she is completely exhausted mentally and physically. The

learning outcome will be very meager.

Therefore, it is very very important for the teachers and the

parents to be aware of this reality and to give due focus and

attention to the purpose of school education that is

    "LEARNING".

Teaching is only one of the means to enable the students to learn

.There are various other methods like projects, group activities,

discussion, debates, quiz and presentation by the students etc. It

can make the school education student centric, knowledge

oriented and teacher guided exercise of an innovative joyful

experience instead of examination oriented monotones stereo

typed classroom exercise of intellectual stress and emotional

    pressure.

I wish the teachers and parents understand the hardship of the

students and allow them to have some personal time to breath at

ease and relax physically and mentally so that they may grow to

    healthy individuals.

    Increasing craze of Social networking

    site ………

Social media is taking over how people

communicate, and almost everyone has a face

book, Twitter or Whatsapp account. However,

there may be boundaries as to who can be

connected to, like teachers and their students.

Teachers should keep their relationship with

students on a professional level. When

teachers act the same way as teenagers do,

they should be treated like teenagers.

Teachers have an obligation to act responsibly

and professionally in the classroom. This is

    not to say that teachers should not be friendly;

however, this does mean that teachers should

not be friends. Although students and teachers

can be friendly in real life, their roles do not

permit them to be friends on the social

    networking sites

How far ‘Gandhigiri’ prevailing in modern era ? ?

    Jainil Rangani of 6th A says …………

Our honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has

recently started ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan ‘following one of the dreams of Gandhiji. This was done to make

India clean which Gandhiji wanted to see. Most of the

parents know about the Charkha which Gandhiji used

to make clothes, they tell this to their children so that

they could be aware of it. Many schools have

organized peace rally so to inculcate the power of

peace into the minds of the youngsters. But in real

practice, Gandhigiri has very less influence in the

modern era. Unless a person like Gandhiji is born

again, modern era cannot be changed.

  • Page 20

    Yashodhara Rana of 6th A says ……….

Everyone is familiar with the word Gandhigiri.

Times have changed but no one would have ever

thought in the wildest stretch of imagination that the

Gandhi a principles and values that formed the basis

of independence would require such a low medium

for recognition. In the era where occurrence of

nuclear war have equal probability. Today if

someone slaps you on one of your cheeks and by

chance following Gandhigiri, you make a mistake of

lending him you other cheek, believe me your other

cheek is going to be red. It is bitter but the fact is

concept of Gandhigiri is completely irrelevant in the

age where we are living in.

    Yeshika Bhalothiya of 6th A says ………

Gandhiji has taught us many things that are not

followed in the modern era. If these principles are

followed then definitely there can be an

improvement in the modern era. People can become

strong, if they follow Gandhigiri. Gandhigiri will

surely make India a very beautiful, encouraging,

motivating and outstanding country. India needs

Gandhigiri. It will definitely bring improvement in

the people. They will surely of equality.

    Prathana Behra of 6th B says …………..

‘Gandhigiri’ is a fusion of words Gandhi and Giri and it means practicing what Mahatma Gandhi

preached. Gandhigiri is a neologism in India which is

used to express the tenants of Gandhism that means

the ideas of Mohandas Gandhi which include

Satyagrah, non violence and truth. Gandhigiri is just

opposite to Dadagiri which means bullying.

Gandhigiri is not an easy process. It needs more

patience. There is a lack of patience in today’s human civilization. Current world believe in the

policy of "Diamond cuts Diamond", It may sound

bitter but the fact is the concept of Gandhigiri is

completely irrelevant in the age that we are living in.

Soumya Kundu of 6th B says ………… As a casual expression in various languages in India

including Marathi, Hindi and Tamil, Gandhigiri refers

to the practice of ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhism is a term which attempts to summarize the

philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi. Basis tenants of

Gandhism include Satyagrah, truth and non violence.

Gandhigiri is a neologism in India which is used to

express the tenents of Gandhism in contemporary

terms. The terms became popular due to its usage in

2006 when a bollywood movie “Lage rahomunnabhai” was released. Sanjay Dutt played the role of Munnabhai, a local don of Mumbai who

begins to see the spirit of Mahatma Following the

path of him, he helped may ordinary people and

    solved their problems.

Rohit Rajput of 6th B says …………… After the success of, A Bollywood movie

    (LageRahoMunnaBhai) discussions on Gandhiji are

not considered to be boring affairs anymore and yet

another generation has begun its trust with the man of

millennium. Though we all unanimousllly feel that

today’s society needs an urgent change. Life moves on after a few statements of dissatisfaction. If today’s society is ridden with violence, then let us remember

that Gandhiji lived in an era of ruthless fascism and

imperialism. Therein lay his appeal, the appeal which

a lamp holds in a dark room.

    AnamikaSIngh of 8th C says . . . . . . . .

that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian

activist who was the leader of the Indian

independence against British rule. In ancient times

Gandhiji followed the path of non violence which

practically proved that anyone can win through non

violence. As per one of the principles of Gandhji we

should speak truth but in today’s era no one is speaking truth. We should learn from our mistakes,

we should maintain equality in our society and we

should never discriminate people on their caste,

religion, sex etc. Unity is strength, If we follow

Gandhiji we can make our India best. There is enough

in the world for everyone need, but not for everyone’s greed. So let’s learn the good things from Gandhiji and let us have a peaceful and successful life.

  • Page 21

    Khushi Sharma of 8th C says . . . . . .

Chedilal, a retired clerk of food and civil supplies

department of Uttar Pradesh Government, stripped

down to his underwear in front of an office staff of

same department. He put down all his belongings on

the table of the concerned officer and told him,” thats all I have to offer, if You want brass utensils then

come to my house and take it away", Chedilal was

annoyed because that staff demanded a bribe of Rs

15000 to revise his pension. A Bollywood movie

    (LageRahoMunnaBhai) spreader the teachings of

Mahatma Gandhi in new generation. As soon as this

movie hit the theatre, experts started discussing the

relevance of Gandhigiri in our time. The movie was

declared a block buster which itself pronounced the

relevance of Gandhigiri in this era. We really need

someone like Gandhi to teach us the lesson against

    Ahimsa.

    THE MORDERN ERA OF POLITICS

    Jaydev Gadhvi of 10th

    A says …………

ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT SENERIO BJP

IS THE LEADING PARTY IN INDIA BY THE

ELECTION OF 2014 AND NARENDRA MODI IS

THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE OF INDIA.

India losing its mojo because of bad politics ?

It's an obvious question to ask at a time when

powerful - and populist - regional parties are again

flexing their muscles at a fickle federal government,

key economic reforms are seemingly stuck in the bog

of messy coalition politics, and the government is

struggling under an avalanche of corruption charges.

Economic growth and investment have cooled and

    inflation remains high.

So is it surprising that The Economist magazine, in

its latest issue, says the politics is "preventing India

from fulfilling its vast economic potential"?

Or when Fareed Zakaria, editor-at-large with

Time magazine, tells an audience in Delhi this week

that India's politicians are "out of touch… they try to portray India as a victim, not the victor".

    With uncharacteristic exaggeration, The Economist

even invokes a return to the stifling days of the

    controlled economy.

"Lately, like a Bollywood villain who just refuses to

die, the old India has made a terrifying reappearance,"

says the magazine. It blames a "nastily divisive

political climate" for the crisis and believes that India

requires "energetic, active leaders, plus politicians

    who are ready to compromise".

    'Corrupt and corroded'

Both the magazine and the pundit are right and

    wrong.

Reformers need to be patient; there are no

    shortcuts in India

The quality of India's politicians, many argue, has

declined drastically, as in many parts of the world.

Most of them seem to be out of sync with modern day

realities - expectations have fallen so ridiculously low

that an iPad carrying politician is described by the

    media as a modern one!

Most are also seen as greedy, corrupt and

disinterested in serious reform. The increasing

number of politicians with criminal records and the

brazen use of money to buy party tickets and bribe

voters erodes India's ailing democratic process.

It is not a happy picture. "Today the Centre is corrupt

and corroded," historian Ramachandra Guha wrote

recently. "There are allegedly 'democratic' politicians

who abuse their oath of office and work only to enrich

themselves; as well as self-described 'revolutionaries'

who seek to settle arguments by the point of the gun."

Only serious electoral reform can ensure a better

    breed of politician.

But to believe that less politics is good economics is a

bit fey. There is little evidence to argue that political

instability has been bad for India's economy.

India's first flush of economic reforms was launched

by a minority government headed by PV Narasimha

Rao of the Congress party in the early 1990s. The

reforms spluttered to a halt when the government

    secured a majority.

    Later, a rag-tag 13-party coalition United Front

government helmed by two prime ministers in 18

months in the mid-1990s undertook significant

reforms, slashing taxes, deregulating interest rates

and moving towards capital account convertibility.

One study by Kausik Chaudhuri and Sugato

Dasgupta actually found that more investments take

place when coalition governments are in power, one

of the reasons being various regional interests are

held together by "generous distribution of

infrastructure projects". Economist Surjit Bhalla has

argued that political instability is actually good for

    economic reforms.

"The contention is that lack of political dominance

means that politicians in power will make the extra

reform in order to fight for marginal votes in a future

election," he has said. "And if political stability is

present, the politicians are unlikely to make an effort

because of their inherent short sightedness or

    complacence."

    Elitist biases

The problem, as Paranjoy Guha Thakurtha and

Shankar Raghuraman argue succinctly in a study of

coalition politics in India, is that privatization - a key

aspect of economic reforms - remains a dirty word

with most of India's politicians, trade unionists and

    opinion makers.

There is still a serious lack of political consensus on

issues like foreign investment, lowering interest rates

on deposits in pension funds and privatizing profit-

    making state-run factories.

Many would argue that India never got any magic

going, so there is no question of losing it.

Consensus is painfully slow in such a society, and

sometimes only a crisis can provoke the government

    - and the people - to bite the bullet. Reformers need

to be patient; there are no shortcuts in India.

MODERN ERA’S STUDENT Today’s students are surrounded by the help provided by the Internet and social media. Whatever the doubt they

have they clear it through Google. They have additional

friends on Whatsapp and Facebook other than the friends

in their own life. The internet and social media is leaving a

great impact on student’s life. The life of student has got easier than before through internet but it has also

overshadowed their innocence. As a teacher here are some

points that I would expect from modern era’s student.

    1. Students have various sources to gain knowledge. As I said

earlier they have internet to clear all their doubts but they

should not depend only on internet. The books which are

made through so much effort by the writers should be read

too. The books should not lose its importance. Modern

students who are fond of internet should have love for

books too. We teachers should teach them the value of

    book reading.

    2. “Respect when given is paid back in double quantity”. Earlier students gave a lot of respect to their teachers and

parents. When any student met teacher in the market or at

any other place He/ She would greet teacher with great

respect but unfortunately today’s student do not follow such tradition. Today some students think they should greet only

their class teacher as they have no connection with other

teachers working in the same school. I expect that the

students should respect all the teachers of the school just by

greeting them with their beautiful smile. This will make

them adorable in the eyes of that teacher and the respect

given by the students will be returned back to them.

    3. The junior students follow their senior’s everyday in every manner, so the senior students should behave in

discipline. Many senior students are idol of junior

students. Whatever they do or say becomes an

example for other students. The senior students are

expected to become an example through their positive

action and words that can be followed by their juniors.

At last, students are receivers and later carriers of knowledge, discipline and virtues. They are

expected to give back their best.

AS A TEACHER WHAT DO YOU EXPECT

    FROM MODERN ERA’S STUDENTS ?

Teachers often make with what they have and are happy

with any credit they receive. We are not teachers because

of the money or the glory. Teachers are second parents for

the students. They play a fundamental role in every

person’s life, lay the pavement for millions to tread on, guide the way holding the lights of wisdom through

darkness. So teachers except a lot from their students .

Especially in these modern era there are many things that

a teacher expect from students. We simply want to be

known as difference makers. To be known as the

difference makers, we as teachers expect some things

from our students. Our expectations from students are

always altruistic and unconditional. Earlier teachers were

known to be the “gurus” but as the time passed the teachers are known as the “guide by the side” in this modern era.

In this modern era the first thing I expect from my

students is to inculcate significant qualities namely unity,

humility, selflessness, kindness, respectful and obedient

etc. I think an ideal teacher doesn’t want his/her student to be a topper of the class. Of course, that is a great

achievement, but in the long run, does that really matter

in our life? What I actually want from this modern era’s students who are highly indulged in the world of gadgets

to become a learned person in real sense, so that he/she is

able to deal with his/her future in a just and modest way.

These gadgets will surely help them but then honesty,

discipline, morals, ethics and hard work is all needed to

lead a good life. Studies are a part of the curriculum

which helps a student to learn what hard work and

devotion is. All what I want from students is respect and

obedience in return of teaching them lessons of their life !

Students should be highly motivated and focused to learn.

They should be engaged in class, possibly ask doubts.

They should be critical thinkers as well as they should try

to come up with innovative ideas. Students are expected

to be more rational in communication.

“Education is not to reform students or amuse them or to make them expert technicians. It is to unsettle their minds,

widen their horizons, inflame their intellect.”

AS A TEACHER WHAT DO YOU EXPECT

    FROM MODERN ERA’S STUDENTS?

Teachers can change lives with just the right mix of chalk

and challenges. Teachers are second parents for the

students. They play a fundamental role in every person’s life. A great teacher inspires the students to be successful

in their lives. So for making her/ his students successful in

life, a teacher except a lot from their students, especially in

this modern era where the importance of the teachers are

    deteriorating.

As a teacher I expect from students to raise their doubts in

the middle of lectures and that it would be better if they

come up with ideas at the end. Some of the important

things are to respect everyone, have faith in their

knowledge, have good ethical values, interact actively and

clear the doubts to be successful. We as teachers demand

respect and love from our students. A student should take

joy out of everything he/she does gain all round knowledge

every moment. To be punctual and attentive.

In this modern era, students have somewhere lost basic

qualities which they should possess. They should be

respectful to each other irrespective of their social status.

There should be no feeling of superiority and inferiority

just based on gender. The students should become a good

and responsible citizen of a country to help in improving

the society. Students should be good in studies but also

understands the importance of extracurricular activity for

    overall development.

Nowadays students are more interested in learning from

other gadgets or other source. Of course they can learn but

then if they find interesting information relevant to the

course, they should share it with the rest of the class.

Finally they should observe the rules of academic honestly.

Do not sabotage the other students work.

Lastly students should inculcate values, morals, ethics,

unity, care, selflessness and humility. Because it is very

important to have these things for becoming a successful

person. Only academic knowledge will not help us.
