The newly introduced 1811NG is the first fully automated pitot static tester directly supporting General Aviation, Helicopter, UAV, Non-RVSM Regional and Corporate aircraft. The Barfield 1811D is an inexpensive, portable, self-contained field tester. It is ideal for leak testing aircraft pitot and static systems or on-board testing of altimeters and airspeed indicators. Today, the aviation industry has an ongoing demand for more reliable, cost effective, and technologically advanced tools to perform standard pitot-static system leak tests for FAR 91-411 and/or FAR 43 Appendix E certifications. To accommodate these needs, Barfield has designed and produced digital replacement instruments for the Barfield 1811 series and equivalent testers. Both the DALT55 Digital Altimeter (P/N 101-02186) and the DAS650 Digital Airspeed Indicator (P/N 101-02194) were designed to be a direct replacement to the current analog instruments.

Standard analog instruments provided in a Barfield 1811 series or equivalent pitot static tester are delicate mechanical devices easily damaged or destroyed and considered obsolete in the modern aviation industry.

The DALT55 and the DAS650 use state-of-the-art transducer technology for pressure measurements.

The ADTS554F air data test set is a portable four-channel flightline pitot static tester. In three-channel mode, it provides pitot static air data validation, leak testing, fault-finding and avionics instrumentation testing for any aircraft requiring angle of attack two off static-controlled channels, in addition to a pitot test channel.

The ADTS554F can also be used as a standard two-chan-nel flightline air data test set or two simultaneous two-chan-nel air data test sets.

The ADTS553F air data test set is a portable three-channel flightline pitot static tester. It provides pitot static air data validation, leak testing, fault-finding and avionics instrumentation testing for any aircraft requiring angle of attack two off static-controlled channels, in addition to a pitot test channel. Pre-Test ProbesThe Nav-Aids pre-testers are used to verify the integrity of the pitot test adapter, the hoses and the air data test set prior to connecting to the aircraft. The probe is inserted into the pitot test adapter while connected to the hose and air data test set. By applying pneumatic pressure, the entire assembly (tester, hoses & adapters) is checked for leakage.

Pitot Test AdaptersThe pitot test adapter body is of solid uni-body construction. There is no metal to metal contact between pitot tube and test adapters. Seals and spacers inside the adapter body ensure a leak free connection. They are easily exchanged without special tools. Optional high temperature seals and spacers can be installed upon request.

Static Test AdaptersStatic test adapters provide a connecting seal at the aircraft’s static ports. The means of attachment depend on the aircraft type. Installation and removal of our adapters takes just a few seconds.

The ADTS552F, supplied with an ADTS Touch, is a portable two-channel flightline pitot static tester with a large pitot static volume capability for use on a wide range of aircraft, from light aircraft to wide body passenger and freight aircraft.

To ensure that is suitable for RVSM (reduced separation minimum) validation, the new ADTS552F incorporates advanced Druck TERPS (Trench etched resonant pressure sensor) technology.

Fuel Quantity Testers

Fuel capacitance systems are separated into two broad groupings: AC capacitance and DC capacitance. The source of these names derives from the type of signal processed by the fuel system amplifier. Barfield designs a universal tester for each type of system with the proper interface harnesses to access individual aircraft applications. Some of the various test and measurements include:

The DFQ40K is designed to be compatible with all aircraft equipped with AC capacitance based Fuel Quantity Indicating Systems, including those armed with transient suppressors. The DFQ40K has the ability to measure the insulation breakdown of tank units, wiring and connectors associated with the system, capacitance of the tank units, which measure the level of fuel in the tanks and the simulation of capacitances required to test and calibrate the aircraft indicating system.

In addition to performing the standard capacitance tests of the Tank(s) and or Compensator, the DFQ40K has an additional troubleshooting mode that will provide the user with a relative indication of a problem associated with the Phase of the return current like that provided by the Barfield 2548H tester. The DFQ40K measures Low Resistances, DC Voltage and Indicator Drive Current. The DFQ40K is also equipped to measure the Distance To Fault to localize problems with the Hi-Z coax, continuity of the Shield Monitor if the aircraft is so equipped, and Bonding tests to 0.001 Ohm resolution.

The Simulator section has been redesigned to permit direct numeric entry of the desired Tank and/or Compensator capacitance to be simulated using a numeric keypad. The panel connector labeled Com Link will be used with a new generation of Smart Cables. This feature may not be present on the initial release and may be configured as an available option on the test set. The concept is that the DFQ40K will read information stored in the cable specific to the aircraft type under test. At the push of a button, the DFQ40K will perform an Automated Test Routine (ATR) on the aircraft wiring and tank units, resulting in a PASS or FAIL message. Should the test result in a FAIL message, the test set will give clear indication as to the nature of the failure and likely source.

With the incorporation of the BACK, NEXT, MODE and RANGE pushbuttons to the panel membrane, switching the overall number of different screens, including sub-menus to be displayed, is greatly reduced. This will simplify the screens and make it easier for the operator to learn and navigate. This also makes it possible to remove all pre-defined FUNCTION pushbuttons and embed those functions into the Soft Function key selection scheme.

The compact and lightweight DC400A is a complete fuel quantity system test set for use on aircraft that have probes with integral diode rectification commonly called “DC” fuel quantity systems. The DC400A is a completely self-contained, portable, internal battery powered DC fuel quantity system Test Set.

The tester is specifically designed, when used with the proper Adapter Module, to meet the requirements for testing and calibrating a wide range of Aircraft DC Fuel Quantity Systems. The Interchangeable adapter modules customize the DC400A to interface directly with a specific aircraft without the need for an external adapter cable. The digital monitor function monitors the fuel quantity indicator/signal conditioner, output directly in pounds, volts, ratio, etc., depending on the module.

Turbine Temperature Testers

Barfield has been manufacturing Turbine Temperature Test Sets for more than 40 years, and has amassed a vast knowledge of the common thermocouple Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) systems. All Turbine Temperature test sets offered by Barfield meet the requirements for testing aircraft Type K (Chromel - Alumel) thermocouple systems. These test sets are also capable of conducting the following tests:

• System Resistance and Insulation Testing• Hermocouple resistance• Thermocouple Output Simulation for Indicator Accuracy TestThese tests are necessary and must be performed periodically.

Barfield’s team of engineers have a thorough understanding of the temperature indication system and recognize that a typical aircraft EGT system consists of between 4-16 Type K (Chromel - Alumel) thermocouples, which are mounted parallel to each other. Also, as the temperature increases in the engine exhaust, a voltage is induced in the thermocouple. Since the thermocouples are also electrically connected in parallel, the individual thermocouple voltages are averaged together to get a more precise voltage output and temperature indication. The voltages induced in a thermocouple are very small (approx. 40mV/degree) and require very precise test equipment that Barfield has been designing for decades and continues to perfect to the demands of the industry.

The TT1200A is Barfield’s latest Digital Turbine Temperature Test Set. It is microprocessor based, completely self-contained, battery powered unit housed in a new highly visible ruggedized enclosure. It is designed with sufficient accuracies and range to be able to test the newest digital and glass cockpit indicators with simple operation, direct reading, and multi-function versatility.

The TT1200A is specifically designed to accomplish all requirements for testing the aircraft Chromel/Alumel (K type turbine temperature measuring systems. The Test Set can measure resistances down to 0.001Ω, measure insulation up to 200MΩ, perform indicator run-outs with a resolution of .1°C or 1°C and a range of 1372°C. It can also display the equivalent °F or millivoltages and may be used as a master indicator.

TT1200AThe TT1000A is a completely self-contained, battery powered, aircraft turbine temperature system tester capable of measuringsystem lead resistance, insulation, and performing indicator runouts with a range up to1000 °C. The unit was specifically designed to meet all requirements for testing aircraft Chromel/Alumel (CH/AL) turbine temperature measuring systems and provides an accurate display of thermocouple outputs in degrees Celsius (°C).

The TT1000A is engineered for maximum ease of operation and includes an automatic digital display that practically eliminates human error and reduces testing time to a minimum. The test leads incorporate automatic temperature compensation to remove induced voltage caused by a “Cold Junction” created when the test leads are attached to the aircraft. Turbine Temperature Adapter Cables

Barfield’s adapter cables in conjunction with the TT1200A and the TT1000A allows resistance, insulation measurement and indicator tests of a wide range of aircraft, including those equipped with General Electric CF6-6, CF6-50 and CF6-80 series engines. These specialized adapter cables permit convenient access to the engine thermocouple harnesses by connecting directly to the existing engine connectors, eliminating the need for pin to pin probing.

With Barfield approved kits, the user can quickly and efficiently test the entire indicating system. Each package provides for connections at multiple points in the system and allows the following tests to be done through the a convenient switching scheme, inclusing indicator testing, system resistance measurements, individual thermocouple lead resistance measurements and insulation testing.

When an adpter harness is purchased separately, the TT1000A or TT1200A being used must be returned to Barfield for modification and/or calibration with the new harness. The TT1000A must have a DIN connector (Option A) for interfacing with the adpter cable so the modified TT1000A is still useful on other turbine engines. The TT1200A does not require modification but the exixting unit must be returned so the adpater harness and tester can be calibrated together.

The Barfield CT12A Digital Cable Tensiometer was designed to meet the industry’s requirements for testing and measuring the tension of aircraft cables. The CT12A measures the existing tension in 1/16” to 1/4” cables. Two different unit types are available within the product line: multi-cable and single cable. Multi-cable units can measure up to seven different cable sizes; whereas single-cable units are customized for one specific cable size. The CT12A displays the battery life, last measured cable size, ambient temperature and cable tension.

The Barfield instrument allows users to perform an entire testing operation with one hand and without the use of conversion tables. Measurements are taken once the proper cable size is selected and when the tool is clamped onto the cable. The instrument’s display then shows the resulting measurement. Both the multi-cable and single-cable units feature two modes of cable tension measurement: Standard Mode and Averaging Mode. Standard Mode gives individual cable tension measurements.

Miscellaneous Testers

The SC063 is a portable, self-contained calibration device used to check the mounted aircraft compass. Barfield Sight Compass consist of a modified aircraft compass which has been re-screened to indicate 180 degrees from normal. The SC063 allows the operator to stand facing the aircraft, making it considerably easier to transmit signals to and from the aircraft cockpit.

The SC063 is unique in that the compensating magnets have been removed and a combination magnifying lens and collimating sight was added. The compensator has been removed so the compass indicates magnetic direction at all times and is not subject to calibration offsets. The magnifying lens increases the readability of the dial and the collimating lens ensures precise sighting alignment. Attached to the rear of the compass is an adjustable sight lens. The lens is precisely aligned to ensure that the overall accuracy of the dial does not exceed ±1 degree.

The sight compass is painted orange and a caution label is attached to prevent inadvertent installation in an aircraft. The orange color is for clear identification and must not, under any circumstances, be used as an aircraft compass.

The compass is mounted on a bracket which can be attached to the monopod assembly. The monopod support provides a stable reading while not requiring long set-up times.

The 5-foot 6-inch monopod assembly may be adjusted so the sight compass meets the eye level of the operator. All external parts of the sight compass such as the mounting bracket, monopod and associated mounting hardware were designed with materials that will not affect the magnetic accuracy of the sight compass.

The 2311FA Pressure Tester field tests aircraft pressure systems for both reciprocating and turbine engine pressure systems. It provides pressure for testing pressure transmitters, warning switches pressure-type torque (BMEP) indicators and system leak testing in the range of 0-600 PSI.

The unit consists of a cylinder equipped with a manually operated screw piston for developing pressure. A fluid reservoir is connected through a control valve to the pressure cylinder. 1/8 NPT female outlet port is provided for attachment to the unit or system to be tested. The tester is portable and rugged, with a wide range capability. It is simple to operate, self-contained and both line and shop proven.

The use of VITON (Fluro-carbon) seals on the piston, permits the use of any fuel, lubricating or hydraulic fluid. The principal NONCOMPATIBLE fluids NOT to be used with VITON seals are: alcohol’s, aldehydes, amines, alkyl phosphate esters (skydrol), ethers and ketones.

Barfield develops customized Pressure Tester Kits for shop and field testing of pressure switches and transducers in pressurized fluid systems. These Pressure Tester Kits are also used in reciprocating, turbine engines and airframe pressure systems. The Kits also have Leak Testing capability of closed loop fluid systems.

Based on the Model 2311FA Pressure Tester, Barfield Pressure Tester Kits contain customer specified hoses, adapters for switches and transducers, and either digital or analog format gauges with 0 to 600 PSI range capability.
