Skills you need for the course: • You need motivation. • You need to constantly work hard, pushing yourself to be

the best and do the best work possible. • You need to want to succeed. • You need to be able to think creatively. • You need to be open to new ideas. • You do not need to be an amazing artist with good drawing

skills. • You do not need to be confident on the sewing machines

yet. • You do not need to be highly skilled with computers. • All of these skills will be taught.

What will you cover during the course: Year 9 - Using skills learnt in year 7 and 8 to develop your construction skills in Textiles. We will introduce you to ‘wearable electronics’ and how to produce circuits in garments as well as the use of 2D Techsoft software design to enhance your product with digital prints or laser cutting. We will look at technical textiles such as Tyvek and linking our design work with alternative materials such as wood, plastics and metals.

Year 10 - You continue to develop practical skills, with continued development of your ability to use CAD/CAM to enhance your final products being produced. We will also look at hoe Technical & smart materials can be used to enhance our products further including electronics and programmable components.

Year 11 - You will complete your Non Examined Assessment task that follows the iterative design process. Your end piece is your opportunity to show the examiner all of the skills you have developed through year 9,10 & 11. This will make 50% of your final grade and the other 50% will be in a written exam.
