The Association of Partners for Public Lands (APPL) builds and elevates effective nonprofit organizations and exceptional public-nonprofit partnerships for the benefit of public lands and their users.

Dear Public Lands Partners,

Join APPL in Atlanta this February at our annual Partners for Public Lands Convention and Trade Show! We are elevating our agenda this year, providing our participants with all the benefits they experience consistently at an APPL Convention and new opportunities to foster high-level conversations among public lands leaders and explore partnerships in action.

A TRUSTED SOURCE OF TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Whether you support our public lands through a nonprofit organization or a land management agency, you will walk away armed with strategies, tactics, ideas and new con-nections that you can bring back to your organization. With 50+ educational sessions, you’ll be able to choose the learning that will develop your advanced skills and elevate your partnership to a new level. Plus, your education continues in our Trade Show, featuring publishers, business services, products, and more tools that will enhance your ability to fulfill your mission.

CRITICAL DIALOGUE AMONG PARTNERSHIP LEADERS

This year, our Convention builds upon our traditional train-ing opportunities to create forums for nonprofit and agen-cy leaders to engage in high-level discussions about the direction of our partnerships. General sessions will not only feature inspirational speakers, but discussions among public lands, policy and communications leaders to help focus our community’s impact and identify solutions to the obstacles that our partnerships face.

PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION

As we celebrate Black History Month, we have integrated opportunities to visit Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site into our Convention agenda. Experience first-hand how the National Park Service and Eastern National together have made critical investments in park infrastructure, supported educational programming and increased visitor recognition of their partnership.

Face-to-face interaction is the platform where deals are struck, relationships are forged and ideas are generated. Come to Atlanta and prepare yourself to tackle today’s challenges and exploit tomorrow’s opportunities for the benefit of America’s public lands and their visitors. I look forward to engaging with you in Atlanta.

Cultural Competency: Exploring Inclusivity on America’s Public Lands

Public lands leadership teams frequently strive to include a diverse range of perspectives in their organizations and partnerships. But old fashioned approaches to “diversity training” focus on learning specific traits of other cultures to be “sensitive” to them. This workshop invites you to enter a larger framework of institutional and self-awareness to enable the dominant culture to shift positions and become one of many perspectives working toward the shared values and common goals essential to the future of our public lands.

Brigette Rouson, Founder, Rouson Associates Buyer and Vendor Forum This session will take place from 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m.

Communication is the key to good buyer and vendor relationships and this forum offers the perfect opportunity to put this concept into practice. This open forum is a great way to work together more effectively, share successes and failures, and better relate to each other. Buyers can share their approval processes and the factors that go into their buying decisions while vendors can discuss ways to better meet buyers’ needs for distinctive products, publications and industry services.
