5Welcome to CTAI’s Fifth Quarterly Newsletter

Hello again to all readers of the CTAI Newsletter.As we enter the second half of 2016, life at CTA International remains as challenging and exciting as ever. The cannon Series Production and the Qualifi cation of the General Purpose Rounds (Point Detonating & Air Burst) continue to be the main business focus.In June, the CTAS was on display at the Eurosatory defence exhibition in Paris. This was an excellent opportunity for us to meet with potential export customers and to discuss the operational advantages afforded through a Cased Telescoped Armament System integrated into their vehicles. We were well supported by our prime customers; French DGA and the United Kingdom MoD and I am pleased by the high level of interest worldwide for the CTAS.In this edition of the Newsletter, we will tell you about the fi rst fi ring of the CT Cannon from the Ajax vehicle trials as well as giving you a view of our supplier network. Additionally, the CTAI team has been nominated for a prestigious Commercial Achievement Award within BAE Systems. We will also introduce you to two of our most recent recruits who have joined us to ensure that our product deliveries remain on track!Finally, I must fi nish on a different note as my tenure as Managing Director comes to an end. My time at CTAI has been full of memorable moments, both highs and challenges! I have made many new friends with whom I will keep in touch for years to come. I am, however, delighted to announce that I will be ably replaced by Anna Barba who arrives from BAE Systems Australia. Anna has a General management background with a successful track record of program/product delivery in manufactu-ring, systems, infrastruc-ture and integration in the maritime sector. Anna has successfully delivered to the Austra-lian Navy two Landing Helicopter Docks. I be-lieve CTA International has an exciting future ahead of it, and I wish Anna, and all my collea-gues at CTA Internatio-nal, all the best.

> CT 40 Cannon at Eurosatorywith GPR-PD terminal effect

In a brand new exhibition design on the Nexter Stand, CTAI showcased the CT 40 Cannon and Ammunition Handling System (AHS) together, and displayed the lethality of our ammunition using a number of real targets positioned around the cannon. Our aims were to feature the 40 CTAS as a whole solution, communicate our latest progress on Series Production, and promote our range of ammunition products.

Our products were also visible on the BAE Systems (40 CTC), Nexter Systems (2-man turret, unmanned turret, RAPID FIRE), Nexter Munitions (ammunition range) and MINDEF (JAGUAR) stands. As a result, our expanded presence at the exhibition was a great opportunity to demonstrate the wider applicability of CTAI products for Land, Air defence and Sea platforms.

The CTAI stand was very popular with visitors from across the governements and industry, in particular foreign turret suppliers. The exhibition enabled conversations with our partners, our current Customers and suppliers, and potential future export Customers, including contacts from the USA, Qatar, India and Australia. Following the success of Eurosatory 2016, we are now developing these conversations further and are looking forward to an exciting export future for CTAI.

AJAX, the future of Armoured Reconnaissance Fighting Vehicles for the British Army, recently held its fi rst fi ring trial at Radnor Ranges in Powys, Wales. A total of 63 rounds were successfully fi red from the AJAX vehicle, and the CT 40 Cannon performed impeccably in the turret.

Lt Col David Cathro, Senior Requirements Manager for the AJAX Programme (UK Ministry of Defence), released the following statement: “This is a great achievement for the programme. The challenges in getting to this point should not be underestimated and today is the result of a lot of hard work by General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, CTAI, DE&S and the Army. Seeing the fi rings today gives us confi dence that the Army will receive this battle winning and transformational capability on time and to budget.”

CTA International is currently delivering the Series Production for 515 CT 40 Cannons which will support the AJAX programme, and this trial was the fi rst demonstration of the capability of the CT 40 cannon integrated in the vehicle. The next AJAX fi ring trial is planned for later this year, before continuing to manned fi ring in early 2017.

CTA International is a UK-French joint venture based in Bourges, in the centre of France. The CT 40 cannon would not be possible without our network of suppliers, who produce the cannon’s components and deliver them to Bourges for fi nal assembly. CTA International recently received a “Commercial Achievement Award” from BAE Systems for its collaborative work with the UK Ministry of Defence in signing CTAI’s fi rst Series Production contract in 2015. This annual award scheme has been run by BAE Systems for the last 12 years to recognise the highest standards of Commercial accomplishment. David Coughtrie, Business Development Director at CTAI said “We are delighted to receive this award from our parent company, and are proud of the way CTAI and UK MoD collaborated to achieve this.”

Welcome to CTA International! What are your fi rst impressions? Since arriving at CTAI in April, my fi rst impressions are excellent. The small size of the organisation allows it to be agile and reactive.

What are your main responsibilities at CTAI? As Product Manager, my role is to coordinate the activities that contribute to

the production capability at CTAI.

What have you most appreciated about working at CTAI so far? I have most appreciated the friendliness of CTAI, the warm welcome and the professionalism and good humour of everyone I have met so far.

What do you think are the key challenges at CTAI? The most interesting challenges are meeting the production timescales for our customers. Thereby, the organisation’s transformation is already well underway in order to increase its production capacity.

Success at AJAX First Firing

Welcome to CTA International! What are your fi rst impressions? An Organisation still transitioning to a production environment but with a big future in front of it in the export market.

Where did you come from before CTAI? Before arriving in France at the end of April, I spent nearly 7 years in Saudi Arabia working in project and bid management for BAE Systems. Now my role at CTAI is the management and delivery of the series production contract for the 40mm cannon.

How have you found the relocation to Bourges? The support team have been great helping with both personal and work challenges, never had to sign so many papers! My family are settling in well and love the historic charm of Bourges. Now onto enjoying the outdoors lifestyle offered throughout the area.

What are you most enjoying about working at CTAI? The open and welcoming environment with everyone willing to take the time to help me integrate into the program (whilst being very nice about my poor French!).

À l’aube du second semestre 2016, la vie à CTA Interna-tional est toujours aussi stimulante et passionnante ! La production en série des canons et la qualifi cation des munitions GPR-PD et Airburst sont toujours au centre de notre attention.En juin, nous avons exposé le 40 CTAS au salon Eurosatory à Paris. Le salon Eurosatory fût l'occasion de rencontrer de nouveaux prospects export et de présenter les avan-tages opérationnels du système d'arme à munitions té-lescopées. Nous avons pu compter sur le soutien de nos principaux clients : la Direction générale de l'armement et le ministère de la Défense britannique. Nous pouvons nous réjouir du très haut niveau d'intérêt suscité par le CTAS dans le monde entier.Dans cette nouvelle édition, nous aborderons égale-ment d’autres sujets, tels que le succès du premier tir du canon CT intégré sur le véhicule Ajax, l’importance de notre réseau de fournisseurs, ou encore la nomination de l'équipe CTAI pour le prestigieux prix du succès com-mercial remis par BAE Systems. Vous pourrez aussi faire connaissance avec deux nouveaux collaborateurs qui ont récemment rejoint la société pour nous permettre d’assurer les livraisons dans les délais.Enfi n, je me dois de conclure sur une note un peu spé-ciale puisque mon mandat en tant que directeur géné-ral touche à sa fi n. Ces années à CTAI m'ont offert des moments inoubliables, à la fois intenses et stimulants ! J'y ai scellé de belles amitiés que je souhaite conserver à l'avenir. J'ai aujourd’hui l'immense plaisir de vous an-noncer que je serai remplacé par Madame Anna Barba. Anna, qui nous vient de BAE Systems Australie, possède une solide expérience en management. Elle a dirigé plu-sieurs projets de grande envergure dans le sec-teur maritime. Anna vient de livrer avec suc-cès deux navires (Lan-ding Helicopter Dock) à la marine Australienne. Je suis convaincu qu'un avenir des plus exaltants s'ouvre devant CTA Inter-national et je souhaite à Anna, ainsi qu'à l'en-semble de mes collè-gues de CTA Internatio-nal, tous mes vœux de réussite.

> Canon CT 40 à Eurosatory

C'est dans un tout nouvel agencement sur le stand de Nexter que CTAI a exposé conjointement le canon CT 40 et le système d'alimentation en munitions (Ammunition Handling System, AHS). La létalité des munitions 40 CT était illustrée par des cibles impactées.Notre objectif sur ce salon était triple : proposer le 40 CTAS en tant que solution globale, communiquer nos progrès récents sur la production série et promouvoir notre gamme complète de munitions. Il est à noter que notre canon avec ses munitions était également visible sur les stands de BAE Systems (40 CTC), Nexter Systems (tourelle 2 hommes, tourelle non habitée et Rapid Fire), Nexter Munitions (gamme complète de munitions de 40) et MINDEF (JAGUAR). Cette présence renforcée nous a permis de démontrer la grande applicabilité des produits CTAI sur les plates-formes terrestres, anti aériennes et navales.Le stand CTAI a été très fréquenté, accueillant les représentants des gouvernements ainsi que des acteurs de toute l'industrie, et plus particulièrement des constructeurs étrangers de tourelles. Nous avons pu rencontrer nos partenaires, nos clients et fournisseurs actuels, ainsi que de potentiels futurs clients à l’export, aussi bien aux États-Unis, au Qatar, en Inde et en Australie. Nous travaillons donc désormais à développer ces relations et nous nous réjouissons de la perspective de futures exportations pour CTAI.

L'AJAX, le futur véhicule blindé de reconnaissance de l’armée Britannique a récemment effectué ses premiers essais au tir à Radnor Range au Pays de Galle. 63 munitions au total ont été tirées avec succès depuis le véhicule AJAX et le canon CT 40 a parfaitement fonctionné dans la tourelle. Le Lieutenant-Colonel David Cathro du Ministère de la Défense britannique a ainsi déclaré : "C'est une grande réalisation majeure pour le programme. Les défi s relevés pour arriver à ce résultat ne doivent pas être sous-estimés et le succès d'aujourd'hui est le fruit du travail acharné des sociétés General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, CTAI, DE&S et de l'Armée. Au vu des essais réalisés ce jour, nous sommes convaincus que l'Armée recevra, dans les délais et dans le respect du budget, cette capacité gagnante et transformationnelle".CTA International livre actuellement les premiers canons de la série de 515 canons commandés pour le programme AJAX et cet essai était la première démonstration des capacités du canon CT 40 intégré au véhicule. Un prochain essai au tir de l'AJAX est programmé plus tard dans l’année, avant de poursuivre par des tirs en tourelle habitée, début 2017.

CTA International est une co-entreprise franco-britannique basée à Bourges, dans le centre de la France. Le canon CT 40 n'aurait jamais existé sans notre réseau de fournisseurs chargé de produire et de livrer à Bourges les composants du canon pour l'assemblage fi nal. CTA International a récemment reçu un prix "Commercial Achievement Award" remis par BAE Systems pour sa collaboration avec le ministère de la Défense britannique qui a abouti à la signature en 2015 du premier contrat de production en série de CTAI. Mené par BAE Systems depuis 12 ans, ce programme annuel récompense le meilleur niveau de réussite commerciale, comme l’explique David Coughtrie, responsable du Business Development à CTAI : "nous sommes ravis de recevoir ce prix de la part de notre société mère et sommes très fi ers de la manière dont CTAI et le ministère de la Défense britannique ont su collaborer pour atteindre ce résultat".

Bienvenue chez CTA Internatio-nal ! Quelles sont vos premières impressions ? Depuis mon arrivée à CTAI en avril, mes premières im-pressions sont excellentes. La taille plutôt modeste de l'organisation lui permet d'être souple et réac-tive.

Quelles sont vos principales res-ponsabilités à CTAI ? En tant que chef de produit, mon rôle est de coordonner les activités qui contribuent à la capacité de CTAI à produire les canons en série.

Qu'appréciez-vous particulièrement dans votre travail à CTAI ? J'apprécie surtout la gentillesse des collabo-rateurs CTAI, l'accueil chaleureux, le professionnalisme et la bonne humeur des personnes que j'ai rencontrées jusqu'à maintenant.

Quels sont, selon vous, les principaux défi s pour CTAI ? Le respect du calendrier de production pour nos clients est l'un des défi s les plus intéressants. La transformation de l'organisation est déjà bien en marche pour accroître sa capacité de production.

Où étiez-vous avant de travailler pour CTAI ? Avant d'arriver en France fi n avril, j'ai passé près de 7 ans en Arabie Saoudite où je tra-vaillais dans la gestion de projets et des offres

pour BAE Systems. Désormais, mon rôle à CTAI est la gestion et la livraison du contrat de production en série du canon 40 CTC.

Comment s'est passée votre arrivée à Bourges ? L'équipe support m'a beaucoup aidée, tant sur le plan personnel que professionnel : je n'avais jamais signé autant de papiers de ma vie ! Ma famille est bien installée et aime le charme historique de la ville de Bourges. Maintenant, nous allons pouvoir profi ter des sorties proposées dans la région.

Qu'appréciez-vous particulièrement chez CTAI ? L'environnement ouvert et accueillant, avec des personnes prêtes à prendre le temps de m'aider pour m'intégrer au programme (et leur indulgence envers mon niveau de français !).
