A SPRING FESTIVAL OF RUSSIAN MUSIC TO BE HELD AT UD IN MARCH

DAYTON, Ohio The soul of a nation will take center stage
at the University of Dayton in March, with four concerts
scheduled as part of its Spring Festival of Russian Music.
Admission to the concerts is free and open to the public.
"Russian affairs have attracted the world's attention
because of the trouble that is taking place now," said Viktor
Polonsky, UD artist-in-residence and festival coordinator. "I
know Americans are very concerned about Russian affairs and have
empathy for Russian pain. After the festival, I hope that
everyone wili understand the musical culture, because through
culture everyone can feel the soul of a nation."
Performances during the week of March 3-12 will feature the
music of 19th- and early 20th-century Russia.
The festival will include: a faculty recital at 8 p.m.
Tuesday, March 3, in the Kennedy Union Boll Theatre with Eugene
Marquis on clarinet and Polonsky on piano; a student recital at 8
p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the Kennedy Union Boll Theatre
featuring music for piano, violin, voice and winds; a faculty
recital at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 8, in the Kennedy Union Boll

Theatre with Paul Austin, Carol Baxter, Alice Hotopp, Elena
Letnanova, Phillip Magnuson, Jim McCutcheon, Polonsky and Linda
Snyder; and a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the
Kennedy Union Boll Theatre with both Polonsky and guest artist
Anna Polonsky on piano and Magnuson on viola.
Polonsky, a native of Russia, immigrated to Dayton in May
1990. He graduated summa cum laude from the Secondary School of
Music and the Conservatory of Music in Kishinev, and he received . a doctor of musical arts degree from the Academy of Music in
Vladivostok.
