ACTIVITIES FOR TOURISTS IN THE CENTER OF LEPPÄVIRTAThe Mansikkaharju Holiday Center is easy to access from Highway 5. The Travel Center Un-nukka, at the edge of Lake Unnukka, is a versatile destination on the way to the town center. There’s something for everyone year-round at the Wellness and Sport center Vesileppis. See pages 4-7.
THE CHURCH OF LEPPÄVIRTAThe Leppävirta Church, built in 1846 is the seventh largest Lu-theran church in Finland. It is also a popular venue for music events. See page 10.
THE BRIDGE OF LEPPÄVIRTAThe Leppävirta Bridge, built in 1965 was the highest arch bridge in Finland at that time. The bridge offers a magnificent view both to the Leppävirta river and to the center of Leppävirta. The unob-structed overhead clearance of the bridge is an impressive 26 me-ters.
THE KONNUS CANAL AREAThe Konnus canal area consists of three canals and five sections of rapids. The rapids area features duckboards, docks and a lean-to. The canal restaurant Konnustupa serves visitors. See page 11.
THE LEPPÄVIRTA LOCAL MUSEUMAlmost 3 000 different ethnologically and historically valuable items varying from household items to weapons, and hunting and fish-ing gear.
THE KAUPPILANMÄKI HILL At 155m, the Kauppilanmäki hill provides an impressive panoramic view to Lake Unnukka, the center of Leppävirta, Nikkilänmäki hill, and even the chimneys of the factories of Varkaus (25km away) are visible. The hill also features the water tower of Leppävirta and the ruins of an old cowshed.
THE ORINORO GORGE AND MUSTINMÄKI HILL
The 200m long and almost 20m deep Orinoro Gorge is listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the
Savo region. There’s a 7km long nature-trail and a van-tage point at the top of Mustinmäki Hill. See page 9.
LAKE SORSAVESI (UKKOKIVI ROCK, KARHUNKIVET ROCKS, KUVAJANNIEMI CAVE ETC.) For the independent travelers and paddlers. The untouchable nature and the protected islands are a sight by themselves. The pre-historic rock painting of Ukkokivi Rock and the Kuvajan-niemi Cave are located in the northern part of Lake Sorsavesi. The southern part of the lake features, for example, the rugged Linnasaari Island and the massive Karhunkivet Rocks.
THE NIKKILÄNMÄKI HILL AND THE MUSEUM ROADAt 155m, Nikkilänmäki provides great views and the Museum road, parallel to Highway 5 is a few kilometers long and portrays a piece of traditional landscape of the Finnish countryside.
HALTUNNIEMIAt Haltunniemi, the Haltunjoki river flows beneath rugged cliffs. There is a charming old wooden bridge leading to a small marsh at the other side of the river. A small cave can be found from the side of the cliffs, and according to folk stories it was used as a hiding place during the great wrath (1700-1721) and the Finnish War (1808-1809).

ORINORO INVITES YOU FOR A HIKE!The Orinoro Gorge is a well-known and exciting hiking and picnic destination for the entire family, located in Mustinmäki in the island of Soisalo. Marked trails take you to the narrow gorge with vertical walls carved by glaciers during the last Ice Age. Nearby you can cook on an open fire at the lakeside lean-to. There is a spring at the bottom of the gorge, and snow and ice remain there as late as June.
LEPPÄVIRTA SUMMER THEATRE The summer theatre association of Leppävirta organises summer theatre activity together with Soisalo-opisto. Generally, two plays are prepared for each summer, one for adults and one for the whole family. The performances take place in June-July.

ENTERTAINMENT CENTER TULENLIEKKI Tulenliekki provides concerts and dance events featuring well-known artists. RECREATIONAL FISHING
Konnus rapidsThe rapids are located directly next to the
Konnus canal; the area consists of sev-
eral rapids between islands. Jetties have
been built for fishing, as the beaches are
fairly deep for wading. A boat is the sur-
est way to catch fish. Fish species: brown
trout, grayling, sander, pike, whitefish,
ide, and perch. New trout are introduced
each summer.

MANSIKKAHARJU HOLIDAY CENTER / CAMPING
Mansikkaharju provides versatile accommodation opportunities: a caravan site, high-class villa with a view or villa by the beach, cottages provided with basic amenities, and traditional camping cottages. You can also camp by the water. You are provided with a social area, cooking shelter, playground for kids, barbeque shelter, beach and a traditional wood heated sauna. The historic main building at Mansikkaharju, Harju Talo features a cozy café, which also

KONNUS CANALS
The Konnus canal area, consisting of three canals, built at different times, and five sets of rapids, is 6 km upstream from the center of Leppävirta. The canal connects the lakes Kallavesi and Unnukka.
This historic rapids area, favored especially by fishers and hikers, has duckboards to make hiking easier, as well as docks for fishing. A lean-to isprovided for roasting sausages or fish and making coffee over a fire.
