Background Information On The Author;

The author of this short story was Graham Greene.He was born on October 2, 1904.He later died in 1991.He was the fourth of six children.Greene was a shy and sensitive person.

After several suicide attempts, Greene left school one day and wrote to his parents that he did not wish to return. He was sent to a therapist in London at the age fifteen.He then moved on to a job as a subeditor at The Times in London.He married Vivien in October 1927 and with her had a daughter, Lucy Caroline, and a son Franncis.

Background Information;Greene wrote both entertainments and serious novels.He had many affairs and confessed that he was a bad husband. He separated from his wife in 1948 but they never got a divorce.Towards the end of his life he lived in Vevey, Switzerland with his companion Yvonne Cloetta. Where he later died on April 3, 1991.
