“ W E G O T N E X T . ”In college, I loved playing pick-up basketball. (I wasn’t good. When I tried to imitate Michael Jordan, I almost bit off my tongue.) In the gym bleachers, I’d put together a team with other guys waiting to play. When the game on the court finished, those were the words we used to announce we were the next team in line—the words to claim our spot as successors.

“We got next.”

That’s what Luke wants us to say when we read Acts. Luke tells amazing stories of those first believers:

• passionately praying for God’s power and grace• loving one another deeply in Christian community• courageously suffering for the gospel• boldly preaching Christ through the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe

In Acts, we see the church saving the lost, feeding the hungry, comforting the grieving, con-fronting the compromised, welcoming the outcast, raising next generation leaders, trans-forming lives by the thousands and ten thousands.

Luke wants to light a fire in our hearts to do the same today.

William Booth felt that fire. In the mid-1800s, Booth longed to reach the poor of East London. His revival ministry converted thousands and sparked compassion ministries to relieve their suffering—eventually becoming the Salvation Army. When he died, 150,000 people filed by his casket, and today the Salvation Army shares the love of Christ with 30 million people in 130 countries each year.

Where did this remarkable work start? The book of Acts. Stanley Mooneyham writes, “It is said that as William Booth would read the book of Acts—reliving the victories of the early church, sensing the power that transformed the apostles from timid men into bold witnesses, feeling the impact of the gospel upon pagan cultures—he would drop his head onto the pages of his Bible as he sobbed out this prayer, ‘Do it again, Lord, do it again!’”

That’s our prayer at this week’s Preaching-Teaching Convention. Thanks for joining us, and as we study Acts together, let’s ask God to change the world in our generation—to “do it again” through us.

RICK RUSAW: After serving as lead pastor at LifeBridge Christian Church in Longmont, CO, for over 28 years, Rick continues to blend his talents and heart for service to influence faith-based and corporate leaders around the world. Rick currently leads the Spire Network, a national digital engagement platform, conference, and innovation community focused on equipping and inspiring Christian leaders.

ED STETZER: Ed is an author, speaker, researcher, pastor, church planter, and Christian missiologist. Stetzer serves as the Billy Graham Distinguished Chair of Church, Mission, and Evangelism at Wheaton College and as executive director of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College.

AMANI MUSTAFA: In 2007, Amani joined Al Hayat Christian Channel, a collaboration between Muslim-background believers and Christian-background believers that uncovered the truth about Islam and preached the gospel to the Muslim world. Al Hayat Ministry produced programs that were widely watched in the Muslim world at that time, including The Muslim Woman, a show that was watched by millions.

DR. JERRY TAYLOR: Dr. Taylor serves as associate professor of Bible, Missions and Ministry and as the founding director of the Carl Spain Center on Race Studies and Spiritual Action at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX. Author of Courageous Compassion.

ERIC EPPERSON: Eric serves at Christ in Youth as the Vice President of Story, where he leads CIY’s marketing, church relations, and development teams. Eric has worked at CIY for 15 years.

DAN HAMEL: Dan serves as the lead pastor at The Creek in Indianapolis, IN. Dan is passionate about discipleship, prayer, expository preaching, and leadership.

DAVE STONE: For 30 years, Dave Stone preached at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. During his 13 years as senior pastor, the weekend average attendance grew from 17,000 at one campus to 27,000 at six campuses. Currently Dave is serving at the Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago as their interim teaching pastor.

CHARLIE ALLCOTTCharlie has nearly 40 years of banking and

finance experience as president/CEO or market

president in private and regional banks. He has

served on several boards, including his current

role as chairman of the elders at Generations

Christian Church in Trinity, Florida, and as a

board member at Milligan College in Johnson

City, Tennessee.

TAYLOR BROWN

Taylor is a speaker and writer specializing

in creatively communicating the Gospel to

audiences of all ages. He did this as a youth

pastor and preacher in Tennessee before serving

for eight years as the director of programming

for Christ in Youth’s junior high MIX conference.

He is currently a contributing writer for CIY’s

WRKR films, and also does corporate trainings

through Siblings Improv.

MICHAEL DEFAZIO

Michael serves as professor of New Testament

and hermeneutics at OCC and as part of the

teaching team at Christ’s Church of Oronogo.

DAVID DUNCANExecutive director and COO of CDF Capital Foun-

dation, with nearly 30 years experience working

with churches and ministries. Former vice presi-

dent of development at Ozark Christian College

and principal owner of Duncan Consulting.

JARED ELLISJared is the preaching minister at Fellowship

Regional Church in Iola, Kansas, with a satellite

campus in Caney, Kansas. He is also the host of

a long-form interview podcast show called “The

Homilist,” which explores the various aspects of

preaching.

BOBBY HARRINGTON

Bobby is the point-leader of Renew.org and

Discipleship.org, founding and lead pastor

of Harpeth Christian Church (Nashville, TN),

author of more than ten books on discipleship,

including Discipleshift, The Disciple Maker’s Handbook, and Becoming a Disciple Maker: The Pursuit of Level 5 Disciple Making.

ROWLIE HUTTONRowlie was born and raised near the Canadian

border, on a farm in northern Montana. He

served in both large churches and “turnaround”

churches in Montana, North and South Dakota,

and Nebraska. While preaching in Montana,

Rowlie served one session in the Montana State

Senate.

JARRELL JACKSONAfter playing football at Missouri Southern

State University in Joplin, Jarrell heard a call

to ministry and now serves as the associate

worship pastor at Hope City Church in Joplin.

DANIEL MCCOYDaniel, editorial director for Renew.org, is the

author of The Atheist’s Fatal Flaw with Norman

Geisler, and the editor of the forthcoming

Harvest Handbook of World Religions.

DOUG MILLER, Attorney at Law

Doug is a licensed attorney in Missouri, Kansas,

Oklahoma, and Arkansas. As OCC’s General

Counsel, Doug helps individuals understand

wills, trusts, and estate planning.

CHAD RAGSDALE

Chad serves as assistant academic dean at

OCC, and professor of apologetics and biblical

interpretation.

DON SANDERSDon serves as the director of the Merold Insti-

tute of Ministry in St. Charles, Missouri, as well

as pastor of staff development at Harvester

Christian Church.

AUSTIN SAVAGEFrom Normal, Illinois, Austin knows that ministry

can sometimes feel anything but “normal.” He

grew up leading in the small church his dad pas-

tored, and has since served on the launch teams

for two church plants. He is passionate about

seeing churches grow healthier and make a differ-

ence in their communities.

ISAAC SCHADEIsaac serves at OCC as a Worship and Creative Arts

professor, chapel minister, and the director of

Frontline.

DALE SELLERSDale has been in ministry for almost 40 years

and is dedicated to helping small and mid-size

churches get healthy. In 2014, he launched Dale

Sellers Leadership, Inc. to assist organizations

in the areas of leadership, inspiration, and

evangelism. He has had a wide variety of coaching

and consulting experience.

ROBIN SIGARSRobin serves as senior pastor of Carterville Chris-

tian Church in Carterville, Missouri. For 13 years, C3

has been reaching its community with a strong

calling to Love God, Love Others, and Serve the

World. C3 seeks to truthfully communicate the

message of Jesus with strong preaching, spir-

it-filled worship, and service to its community.

DOUG WELCH

Doug serves as professor of New Testament and

doctrine at OCC. Doug also serves on the worship

team at College Heights Christian Church in Joplin.

JOE WILLIAMSJoe is the lead pastor at New Life Christian Church

in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

ANN WOLFE

Ann is the children’s minister at College Heights

Christian Church in Joplin. Teaching kids about

Jesus is one of her greatest joys, and she is

grateful for the opportunity to do so in creative

environments with fantastic team members.
