A ugust has certainly been a busy month here at the Villa. We made the most delicious homemade ice cream I have ever tasted using a Lile House on the Prairie recipe, learned more about Laura Ingalls Wilder, enjoyed lemon tarts and The Great Gatsby, created leaf art by painng with leaves and com- bining it with inspiraonal quotes from Ro- manc-era poets, visited an Amish store, and created beauful photo-poetry collages out of our “Where We’re From” poem featured in last month’s newsleer. We celebrated the tastes of summer with our annual Sum- mer Family Picnic and had a wonderful me at D-Day remembering Lana Turner with a talented impersonator, honoring our veter- ans with a pinning ceremony, dancing to a swing band, going back in me by dressing in our best 1940s-era clothing and enjoying a 1940s-era lunch. What you may not know is that Dick is currently hosting a new ac- tivity called Biblical Review every Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Biblical Review is a nonde- nominational discussion group for both men and women which begins with prayer, focuses on a lesson reading, and leads into commentary questions that help residents think about “how scripture speaks to them directly.” Dick pro- vides handouts so residents have some type of scripture to read every day, and they are wel- come to bring up “any portion of a lesson that spoke to them” during the session for further review and/or discussion. Most importantly, Dick urges all interested residents to attend without fear of being put on the spot or having had to “study.” It is an informal and nontradi- tional discussion group where residents are eve- ry bit as welcome to listen to the discussion as they are to take part in it. In addition to a career serving as chief legal counsel and Vice President for Allegheny Lud- lum Steel Corporation and Industries, being a licensed airplane pilot, certified tow pilot for gliders, and a glider pilot for many years, Dick served several terms on the Diocesan Council of Ohio, led bible studies at St. Peter Episcopal Church in Kingsville and St. Paul Church in Conneaut, and served on the Board of Trustees and Executive Committees for the organization, Faith Alive, where he traveled all over the coun- try leading prayer and witnessing retreats. It’s safe to say anyone who attends would easily be inspired by Dick’s dedication to his faith and enthusiasm for sharing it with others in a way that is meaningful to each person’s unique life circumstances. Thank you, Dick, for your com- mitment to sharing your talents with all of us! Don’t forget about our hosting of the Conneaut H.S. Foot- ball Team Dinner on Thursday, September 15th. We will need cheerleaders again this year to help pep up the night and will hold rehearsals Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons leading up to the dinner.
