LIVE THE LITURGY

Alleluia! Christ is risen! We are called, by how we live our lives, to celebrate the risen Christ. How do we do that? Our faith in the resurrection gathers us here today to celebrate this incredible event. The good news is that thedoors of eternity are open! We can now understand that the fullness of who we are will be discovered when we

one day meet God face-to-face in heaven. Our faith in the truth of who God is and who we are affects how welive our lives and the decisions we make. We are called to love our neighbor...to love those who hurt us...to work

on behalf of the poor and the weak...to be people of justice, integrity, and hope... to practice compassion andmercy above anything else. Our lives are meant to be oriented around the axis of the Gospel. Are they?

Gospel MeditationCan you imagine that moment? Can you imagine the stomach drop with dizzying realization: "It's all true. All of it

is true! The past three days weren't a dream that ended horribly wrong." Can you imagine all the doubts anddespair of the past days chased away like smoke on the wind by a rolled up burial cloth? By an empty tomb?

It didn't start that way, of course. "'They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don't know where they puthim.'" This frantic news from Mary Magdalene would have been another unexpected blow. After all that

happened, now his body has been stolen? The love and devotion in Peter and John is apparent. They don't wait tocollect more information or stop by the tomb when they have a chance. They run to the site. When is the last

time you ran for something? This isn't a run for exercise, but a huffing and puffing bolt fueled by desperation. Can you imagine that moment? The fear pounding in their temples, matching their accelerated heart rate. Canyou imagine the impatient affection of John, who outruns Peter but refuses to enter the tomb alone? And then,

upon entry, "He saw and believed."This is the drama of our great feast! The promise that seemed lost has been found. The dead are raised. Longbefore the Easter eggs and ham, we are invited to meditate on this divine reality. We are invited to feel the

desperation and joy of that first Easter Sunday deep in our bones. Because it is not just Mary's story. It's not Peterand John's story. It's our story. From the greatest defeat can come the most awe-inspiring victory, and this is true

not just for our God, but for each one of us. He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Jesus rises for you. He rises for me. He rises for each and every one of us. We are called byname in the garden of the resurrection. This Sunday and every Sunday, Jesus comes to meetus. Imagine sitting with him. How is he looking at you? What do you say to him? When the

resurrected Lord greets you with a smile, how do you respond? (LPI)

I have been thinking about something that Bishop Battersby said. He was visiting the Thursday before HolyWeek and he had come to confirm our young people. Quoting the lyrics of a Christian song, which one Icannot remember, he warned them of being a Christian in name only and thereby scandalizing and givingevidence contrary to their faith. Do we believe? The story of Jesus’ empty tomb being found on Easter morning has reached us, and everyEaster during Mass after the homily we renew our baptismal promises. “Do you believe in God the Fatheralmighty, Creator of heaven and earth?” “Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who wasborn of the Virgin Mary, suffered death and was buried, rose again from the dead and is seated at the righthand of the Father?” “Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?” We are here today because inbaptism we renounced Satan and his works and promised to serve God in the holy Catholic Church. There is something else from that night that remains with me. He asked our young people about to beconfirmed if they thought for a moment that they could pray better than Jesus prayed. I cannot rememberexactly how eloquently he put it, but he basically said that idea is hogwash. The reality is that Jesus knowingwell our human nature because He took on that human nature, gave us each other so that we could praytogether. He gave us the Church so that we could assemble and worship the Father with one voice. We areunited with Jesus in this prayer of faith. We cannot do it without Him, and we cannot do it better on ourown.A couple of years ago, I read a book, Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody. This is also a book fromDynamic Catholic. At the conclusion of the chapter describing the story of Jesus forgiving the woman caughtin adultery, our reading from two weeks ago, there is this reflection. “When the priest sprinkles water onthe congregation during Mass, remember that you belong to Jesus. You are baptized. When you enter orleave Mass, use the holy water to mark your forehead and remember your baptism. You have strengthgreater than your own. You belong to Jesus, and He believes in you.” I mention Dynamic Catholic because of course we have been selected by Dynamic Catholic to be a DynamicParish, and we will be receiving a book this Easter, Why I Love Being Catholic. Please take a book. God hassomething great in store for us. I am convinced of the power of testimony and we will read the story of howfaith has been a life changing gift for other people just like us. Then, in a couple of weeks we will be meetingon Monday, May 6, to talk about how to have a better Sunday. Each year we remember that Jesus rose, and gave us among other things the incredible gift of rising whenwe die. My prayer is that we this Easter may be evermore attuned to all of our God-given gifts andrecognizing them we may make some change that will better ourselves or allow us to be closer to Him. Happy Easter!Fr. David Cybulski

Happy Easter! Today we celebrate the great feast of the Resurrection of Our Lord andSavior Jesus Christ! What a truly joyous day this is. At the Easter Vigil, we sing the Exsultetwhich speaks well of today saying that this is truly a night and day that sets us apart fromthe rest of the world. Today we embrace the fact that Our Lord Jesus Christ is truly risen!Alleluia! This amazing fact changes everything and reaches to the very heart of who are asbelievers in Jesus Christ. This fact tells us that our God loves us so much that He camedown to save us from death. The God who made everything and holds it in being desired tosave us from death. His love is so great that Our Lord suffered crucifixion and death for usand then He rose from the dead to bring us to life with Him. This is how much He loves usand wants us to be with Him. Imagine the size of the universe. There are countless stars in countless galaxies. God madeall of this and holds it all together. He also came down to us to save us. Jesus Christ diedupon a cross and rose again to bring us to life. This reality must be at the center of ourdaily lives. It must be at the heart of everything that we do as people. Brothers and sisters, we have a God who is very personal and loves us more than we can possibly imagine. Let us embrace that love, for it is the only way that we will find happiness, peace, and strength. Let us dive into our faith and trust in God, who is Love itself. Happy Easter! In Christ, Fr. Bryan Shackett

"O truly blessed night, when things of heaven are wed to those of earth, and divine to the human." Thesewords come from Exsultet, the Easter Proclamation, which is sung during the Easter Vigil. They give us anidea of what happened that amazing night. We gather after sunset to celebrate the most important event inthe history of the world. The Resurrection of Christ, which "dispels wickedness, washes faults away, restoresinnocence to the fallen, and joy to mourners, drives out hatred, fosters concord, and brings down themighty." (Exsultet) Every sign during this celebration shows it. We begin outside the church to bless the fire, which symbolizes Christ, who is the light of the world; also webless the Paschal Candle, which will burn to give light like Jesus gives Himself to us for life. We bring the litcandle into the dark church as Jesus came to the world bringing us the light of new life. Then we will offerthis candle to God by the ancient hymn of praise called the Exsultet from its first words: "Exult, let themexult." Next is the Liturgy of the Word when we do the same thing as Jesus did when He met his disciples going toEmmaus. We read seven readings from the Old Testament to show us God's plan for salvation, which we arepart of. After the prophecies from the old covenant, we sing "Glory to God in the highest" with theaccompaniment of bells and organs in a solemn way. Then we read the Epistle from the Letter of Saint Paulto the Romans. This is the first time after about forty days that we sing the joyful Alleluia, after which weread the Gospel about the Resurrection of Our Lord. The priest in the homily explains to us what we haveheard. Next is the Liturgy of Baptism at the Easter Vigil. First, we sing the Litany of the Saints asking their help inthis important moment for the candidates for baptism and the Church. Then, we bless the water which willbe used for baptism.  After making their baptismal promises, the candidates are baptized and confirmed, bywhich the mystery of the death and Resurrection of Christ has profoundly changed their lives.  Then the restof the people are sprinkled with the holy water in remembrance of their baptism. The last part is the Liturgy of the Eucharist when the risen Jesus becomes present among us substantially inHis Body and Blood and gives Himself to us as food for eternal life. The mystery of light, Word, water, andthe Lamb, who sacrificed His life for us makes this feast the new Passover. This brings us from the slaveryof death and sin to the freedom of God's life and love.  Niech wam Bóg błogosławi! (May God Bless You!) Michal
