ALONG THE WAY Continued...

Along the Way, whom will I meet? Along the Way, how will I greet?

I’m not alone as I continue on; I recognize that look, staring and forlorn.

A smile, a nod is all it takes; a sharing story, a welcome embrace!

No longer strangers, we feel His grace; no stinging desire to turn back.

Oh, the Narrow Way! Oh, the Needle’s Eye, neither, a hindrance not!

For, at last, at long last my goal is clear. Along the Way my thoughts are fixed, His call

strengthens my gait. I know, soon I will rest;

And, finally I will achieve my quest! (J. D. Owens)

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 26, 2016

JMJ

26 June, 2016 My Dearest Parish Family,

God be with us always.

The Gospel brought me back to memories when I was still a seminarian. This is often one of the scripture readings we reflect on when we think about our vocation. One of the pearls of wisdom imparted on me by my vocation director is that priestly vocation is not a one-time response to God’s call, but a moment to moment “yes” to a moment to moment call. However, there is that one call that we need to answer with conviction – making a fundamental option for who we follow and where our heart lies – the pearl of great price. The young man in the story was challenged to leave everything behind immediately and follow Jesus . . . which in any given time is a radical action. My experience in life is that it takes a lot of courage to follow Jesus and patience in one’s growth in discipleship. “There are no vacations to our vocation to love,” would also be a good reminder. The Gospel tells us that God and His work is always priority. Although our regular religious education formation classes are on summer break, we continue in our efforts to grow as Jesus’ disciples and stewards. This week alone we continued in our intentions to establish a mental health ministry in our Parish with a personal sharing and reflections. St. Ignatius Meeting has been going on for weeks with a consistent number of participants. We have an opportunity to help in the Mission Cooperative Appeals of the Diocese by donating to the work of Fr. Marc of Free the Kids in Haiti. Backyard

Theology starts on Monday June 27 for five weeks. VBS is about to enter the Caves following Jesus; the Light of the World. We are calling on Pilgrims for the Camino to register and even volunteer as station or pilgrim guides. Our Religious Education still need teachers and aides for the coming year. I just hope that you can find God calling you into any of these activities. I pray that your response would be yes. Together we contribute to allow our parish family to fulfill our call to share the love of God with everyone and make the Kingdom of God come.

God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

Amor y oraciones,

Padre Thomas Paul K. Naval

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 26, 2016

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Yet again in Ordinary Time, Jesus seems to demand extraordinary commitment. A would-be disciple enthusiastically volunteers to follow Jesus “wherever” (Luke 9:57). Jesus replies that “wherever” means “nowhere to rest his head” (9:58). To other candidates, Jesus brusquely denies reasonable requests to fulfill family obligations (9:59, 61), declaring that discipleship demands total commitment—now! But Jesus also demands that we not judge how others respond. When James and John volunteered to “call down fire from heaven” (9:54) to destroy an unwelcoming town, Jesus “turned and rebuked them” (9:55). All violence of any kind is completely unacceptable among Jesus’ disciples, a lesson this Jubilee Year of Mercy is teaching the Christian community once again. Paul’s challenge to the Galatians and us reinforces Jesus’ decisive command to James and John that they express their commitment to him through compassion for others. We must abandon the violence of “biting and devouring one another” (Galatians 5:15), choosing instead to “serve one another through love” (5:13). —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Trip to the Holy Door at Mission San Juan As you may know, in May we had a very successful car pilgrimage to “experience” the Holy Door at Mission San Juan Capistrano. Many have requested we do it once again, so we are.

Saturday, July 16th, we will meet in the Santiago parking lot at 1pm.

While we will begin with a pilgrims prayer here at Santia-go, we will also use this time to develop car pools to caravan to the Mission. We should arrive at the Holy Door around 2pm. We will reverently experience walking through the door, and if in the proper spiritual condition, we can attain the Indulgence associated with the Holy Door. We will immediately follow the experience with a short group prayer, then participate in an eleven stations of the cross journey through the Basilica and surrounding property. We should return back at Santiago no later than 4pm. Conditions for the Indulgence: Confession and communion no more than 20 days before the 16th of July, and as you pass through the door, offer a prayer for Pope Francis. Call Tom Haas with any questions at 949-951-8599 ext. 231.

Lo sé, pronto voy a descansar;

Y, ¡finalmente voy a lograr mi búsqueda!
