The Vigilance Awareness Week 2018 was observed jointly at the Corporate
HeadquartersofVisakhapatnamPortTrustandDredgingCorporationofIndiaLtdand
variousProjectOfficesofDredgingCorporationofIndiaLtd.from29thOctober2018to
3rd November 2018, under the auspices of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to
spreadawarenessagainstcorruption.
CVC’sthemefor thisyear’sVigilanceAwarenessWeekis“EradicateCorruption
BuildaNewIndia”withemphasisonspreadingawarenessinfightagainstcorruptionto
allsectionsofSociety.Inlinewiththeletterandspiritofthethemeandinaccordance
withthedirectivesofCVC,severalactivitieswereorganizedcoveringawidespectrum
ofsociety,withtheaimofspreadingawarenessandsensitizingthepublicaboutways
andmeansto fightcorruptpractices.Wecouldmuster thesupportof theprintmedia
also, which gave wide publicity to our run‐up activities, ahead of the Vigilance
AwarenessWeek.
(i) PAINTINGCOMPETITIONSINVARIOUSSCHOOLS
Painting Competition was organised for the school students in various urban
corporate/private schools, urban Govt./aided schools, rural schools and Physically
Challenged in and around VisakhapatnamDistrict . A total number of 487 students
participated enthusiastically in all categories. 128 students under the category of
Urban‐Corporate/PrivatefromSriPrakashVidyaNiketan,VTSchool,SrikrishnaVidya
Mandir and Balabhanu Vidyalayam, 201 students under the category of Urban‐
Govt/AidedfromKNMGHighSchool,GVMCHighSchool,KamalaNehruHighSchool,St.
Antony’sHighSchoolandPortHighSchool,144studentsunderthecategoryofRuralof
ZillaParishadHighSchool,KothavalasaofVizianagaramDistrictandBCTHighSchool
and14StudentsunderCategoryofPhysicallyChallengedparticipatedenthusiastically
in this competition conducted on the theme ofMy vision‐ Corruption free India. The
eventwaswidelycoveredinthepress.

(ii) ELOCUTIONANDESSAYWRITINGCOMPETITION
In addition to this,DCIL andVPT conducted inter‐collegiateEssaywriting and
ElocutioncompetitionsinEnglishandTeluguatitsHeadOfficeon24.10.2018.College
students were given briefing regarding CVC’s theme and were asked to reflect their
view in the light of this theme in Elocution and Essay writing competitions. 104
studentsfromtenDegreeCollegesparticipatedintheevents.MassIntegritypledgeand
E‐pledgeweretakenbyallparticipants.

Inaugural functionofVigilanceAwarenessWeek(VAW)‐2018beingobserved jointly
byVisakhapatnamPortTrust(VPT)andDredgingCorporationofIndiaLimited(DCIL)
is held in DCIL today. Shri V.V.S Sreenivas, CVO of both DCIL & VPT in his welcome
address,emphasizedtheneedtostrengthenthesystemstopreventcorruption.
GuestofHonour,SriP.LHaranadh,Dy.Chairman,VPTwhiledeliveringaddress
laudedtheeffortsputbybothorganizationsintakingthemessageofCVCtograssroot
levelbyconductingseveralactivities. .Hestressed the importanceofhardworkand
efficiencyintheeraofstiffcompetition.
Guest of Honour, Sri S.B Shankar SP, CBI, Visakhapatnam, emphasized the
importanceofbeingvigilantandtruthfulinallspheresoflifewhichwouldinturnmake
the watchdogs like vigilance Department or other Government machinery literally
defunct.
Special guest of the function, Sri G. Sarada Prasad, Advisor, Sagarmala
emphasizedtheneedfor introspection.He furthercitedvariousexamples fromGeeta,
which are still apt in the present scenario like Service toMankind is service to God.

reward.

To spread awareness against corruption amongst the general public, Dredging
CorporationofIndiaandVisakhapatnamPortTrust organizedaVigilanceAwareness
WalkatR.K.BeachRoad,apartofVigilanceAwarenessWeek2018observance. The
walk was flagged off by Sri M.S Rao, Director (Operations & Technical) of Dredging
Corporation of India. A large number of employees from DCI & VPT participated in
additiontogeneralpublic.
Amassintegritypledgewastaken.Itwasfollowedbyasignaturecampaign
against Corruption. Banners, posters and placards depicting the theme of Vigilance
AwarenessWeek2018weredisplayedatthevenue.

1. FLASH‐MOB : FlashmobdepictingtheevilsofcorruptionwasperformedinQueensMary’sGirlsHigh School, Port High School and CMR Central, one of the busiest mall ofVisakhapatnam by a group of professionals in order to create awareness andsensitizationamongschoolchildrenandgeneralpublicofVisakhapatnamandwereappreciatedbyeverybody.

Valedictory Function of the Vigilance Awareness Week 2018 was organized by
Visakhapatnam Port Trust and Dredging Corporation of India Ltd on 3rd of
November, 2018 at Sambamurthi Auditorium, Visakhapatnam Port Trust. –

New Delhi. Elocution/Essay writing competitions were held on corruption related
topics.Banners,postersandplacards,depictingtheevilsofcorruptionandpromoting
ethicalvaluesandintegrityweredisplayed.
