As we wind down the summer, I’m looking forward to cooler temperatures, the changing of the leaves and the sense of renewal that seems to accompany the shiſt in the seasons. I can almost taste the crispness of the air on a fall morning, the scent of smoke from a distant fire, the crystal clarity you have when you start the day before the sun has risen. It’s just within reach, and I feel the joy of anticipation to be a fair trade for the warm summer days we’ll leave behind. Fall is not only a re-set of the season, but also has the magic ability to take us back to grade school years. It was a season of new classes, new friendships, new adventures, and yes, new clothes and school supplies. As an adult, the beginning of a school year brings all of that back, and cues us to evaluate the year to date while also stretching more value and increased results from the remaining few months. As we take stock of where we are personally and professionally at this time, I’d ask you to consider the role WPF has in your life. Do you remember when you first joined WPF? What were your expectations? Have you participated at the level you thought you would? Have you met the people and forged the friendships you had expected? Are we a welcome part of your monthly routine that brings you respite from the week’s strains? How do you give back to your sisters in WPF? We all join with an outsider’s expectation of the group, based on experiences we’ve had in other business and community organizations. Aſter all, WPF is unique in both mission and structure. ere is a natural period of settling in, meeting people, exploring the traditions we have and opportunities available. I’m looking forward to getting to know each of them, and excited that they’ll have the opportunity to experience the special bond we enjoy. I hope you will reach out to them, introduce yourself and usher them into the fold. It’s also a great time to explore new opportunities with WPF. Check out what is going on with the Special Interest Groups (hint: there is a lot!). Consider serving on one of our committees, in leadership or the Foundation. We will also be holding our small group dinners in September and October, which is a great way to share your feedback and ideas for the organization along with getting to know some of our sisters better. I hope you will plan to attend – it is virtual this year so you can do so from the comfort of home. Our monthly meetings offer a great vehicle for seeing friends, enjoying fellowship and gaining insight through the programs and speakers. However, getting involved outside of the meetings — through the activities, the SIGs, and on the committees— is the key to building the friendships and deepening the connections. DEVOTED TO DIVERSITYTuesday, September 15 @ 6:30pm via Zoom

Our plan to hold a committee meeting on August 18th got postponed to September so we could watch “Finish the Fight”, the NY Times virtual play, together. It was AMAZING. Here’s the YouTube link for those who had competing interests and didn’t get an opportunity to view it live. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBI6NCs3k1c

Please join us in September as we work together to make plans for our SIG going forward. We look forward to hearing your great ideas and comments. Please feel free to participate whether or not you are a Committee member (or if you are not sure if you are a Committee member). RSVP via Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1lNf3axWXW3iVHcwPXU7Y8AG5XyLXRNUMRZUb6Y8Hg/edit A Zoom link will be shared via email the day of the event.

As always, be in touch with any questions and ideas: Nicole Hayes [email protected], Terri Harris [email protected], Rebecca Ben-Gideon [email protected]

e Devoted to Diversity Special Interest Group (SIG) was created to wrestle with issues of inclusion, diversity and justice in order to engage WPF as a force for change in our communities. ough we are socially distanced, we plan to continue meeting monthly on third Tuesdays. Mark your calendars now to get involved!

HEALTH & WELLNESSAs we have done several years in the past, we are gearing up for the Women’s Only 5K Walk & Run Race this year with one more increasingly familiar twist . . . e race will be “virtual” this year (Sept 28 – Oct 3). However, the Health & Wellness SIG is still rallying to support this wonderful cause and we have set up a Team for the Women’s Professional Forum.

You can sign up for the Race at https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/Greensboro/WomensOnly5K. When you ll out the form, please select Women’s Professional Forum as your Team so we can show a united front of support and coordinate who all is participating from our organization. We are planning a race day and route for our group, the morning of October 3rd. More details will be forthcom-ing closer to (virtual) race time.

Questions can be directed to Ashley Madden at [email protected] or (336) 314-9857 for this event.

BOOK CLUBTuesday, Oct. 6

7:00pm via ZoomHost: Jody Susong

Please email Jody at [email protected] at let her know you will attend and she will send the Zoom link. e meeting starts at 7:00 for little social time prior to the discussion.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

e story is set in the 1950s and revolves around a young woman named Kya Clark, who is from extremely rural North Carolina. Known by others as the Marsh Girl, she lives alone in nature—but the draw of other people, and specically love, brings her into contact with the greater world. is novel has a mystery at its core, but it can be read on a variety of levels. ere is great nature writing; there is coming of age; and there is literature. Crawdads is a story lovingly told—one that takes its time in developing its characters and setting, and in

developing the story. You’ll want to relax and take your time as well, and when you’re done you will want to talk about it with another reader.

Wednesday, September 16 from 5:30-6:45pm via ZoomHosted by Sue Kennedy

September, from Latin meaning “the seventh month,” so let’s call September “Lucky Number 7” - and hope it brings us all good fortune for the remainder of this year!

Here’s what we’ve planned….Buy a wine, or pull one from the cabinet or fridge. Bring your bottle (oh, and a glass of course) to our Lucky 7’s wine event. Say “cheers” and tell a tall tale about you and the wine, making as many (serious or silly) connections or statements about “7” that you can! If you can nd a wine with “Seven” or “7” on the label, even better. ere will be prizes for “e Best use of “Lucky 7’s” in September!
