A Word From Our Personal Representative…..

Summer is coming to an end and our members are returning from well-deserved vacations. Our schedule is full and we expect to be very busy in the next months.

If you get an opportunity you can stop by the Stockton Scottish Rite Language Center and see the new carpet and paint that was recently completed. During the spring break we were able to remove the files and furnishings, paint the interior of the Center and install new carpet. Language center personnel have commented that they are very pleased with the renovations. My thanks and congratulations go out to our Language Center Board headed by the Ill. Robert Snyder 33 degree.

On September 16, 2013, we will again be hosting the third Stockton Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center golf tournament at Brookside Country Club. The event directly benefits our Language center and we expect another great event which is chaired by the Ill. Craig Santos, 33 degree. We are still looking for volunteers, raffle prizes, and are happy to accommodate any players wishing to have a great day on the course.

It is that time of the year and our teams are beginning to practice for the upcoming degrees in October. We are always looking for volunteers to help welcome our newest members into the Rite. For more information please contact brother Crispin Woelfer or Brother David Nunez who will be coordinating the degrees.

I would like to thank and commend those of you who have been contributors to the Stockton Scottish Rite “365 Club”, which directly benefits our Childhood Language Center. This fundraiser is still very active. For those of you that have contemplated contributing, I would like to point out that your commitment is instrumental to the operation of the Center during the summer session. In the past funding the center for the summer was very difficult. Since the inception of this fundraiser we have been able to help more of our young clients at no charge to their families.

Organizations such as ours are often judged by what our charities accomplish. Our Language Center is a defining phi-lanthropy and as such we are received positively by those with limited knowledge of our Rite. As most of you know the concept is a dollar a day for the year. These funds help us continue to serve the young clients with language disor-ders, at no charge. Thanks again for your help.

Last but certainly not least, there has been a changing of the guard in our office. Brother Ken Evans has left to enjoy his retirement and upcoming travels. We would like to thank Ken for all of his work as General Secretary of our Scot-tish Rite. The Ill Frank Louie 33 degree, S.G.I.G. has appointed Brother Kent Armstrong as our new General Secre-tary. Please stop by and congratulate him on his new appointment.

Be it remembered:

That on the 31st day of the month of January, Anno Domini 1906, the following named brethren of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry under the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States to-wit: George Francis Henderson, 32°, Charles Morrill Kerriston, 32°, Frank Shackelford Boggs, 32°, John Wesley Rupert, 32°, James Jerome Smith, 32°, Frank Wilson Goodrum, 32°, Frederic Macondray West, 32°, Edward Clement Stewart, 32°, Charles Herbert Wright,32°, Harry Wallace Taggert, 32°, William Bacon Thomas, 32°, Frank Dickinson, 32°, John Newton Woods, 32°, Peter Christian Krog, 32°, and Michael S. Arundt , 32°, all holding certificates of good standing in the respective chapters of the Rose Croix, in which they held membership assembled at Masonic Temple in the City of Stockton, Coun-ty of San Joaquin, State of California, instituting a Chapter of the Rose Croix, under the Southern Juris-diction of the United States.

W. Frank Pierce, 33°, Sovereign Grand Inspector General of California for the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States, was present, and consenting, and under the authority of the Supreme Council of the 33°, of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry; for the Southern Jurisdiction of the Unit-ed States, proceeded to institute a Chapter of Rose Croix.

After due and legal form and ceremony, the Sovereign Grand Inspector General of California, de-clared a Chapter of Rose Croix to be duly established in the Valley of Stockton, to be known as: “ Albert Pike Chapter No. 9 Knights Rose Croix” of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry under the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States, and composed of the foregoing named fifteen brethren.

The following named brethren were elected to office in said Chapter for the ensuing term:

George Francis Henderson as Wise Master;

Charles Morrill Kerriston as Senior Warden,

Frank Shackelford Boggs as Junior Warden,

Frank Wilson Goodrum as Secretary;

Frederic Macondray West as Treasurer,

James Jerome Smith as Almoner, and

John Wesley Rupert as Orator.

The Wise Master appointed the following officers;

Edward Clement Stewart as Master of Ceremonies;

Charles Herbert Wright as Expert,

Harry Wallace Taggert as Assistant Expert;

William Bacon Thomas as Guardian of the Temple, and

Frank Dickinson as Tyler, and the above mentioned officers were duly installed.

Brother W. Frank Pierce granted the Chapter the right to receive and ballot on applications at the next stated meting.

October 4th is National Golf Day:

The Professional Golfer's Association (PGA) created and sponsors National

Golf Day. It has been held every year since its inception in 1952. The first

event was held at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, in Lemont, Il. The first

event raised $80,000 for charities.

Did You Know? At the very first National Golf Day event, celebrities Bob

Hope, Dean Martin, and Jerry Lewis were in attend-

ance.

Columbus Day

Did You Know? Columbus day is sometimes referred to

as "Discoverer's Day".

Some key facts (in case you forgot them since grade school):

Columbus Discovered America in 1492. He originally set sail on August 3,

1492, but had trouble with the ships, stopping at the Canary Islands for

a month. The ships left the Canary Islands on September 3,1492.

He travelled with three ships: The Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria

While Columbus was an Italian, he could not find funding in Italy, so he

turned to the King of Spain. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella provided the

funding.

Christopher Columbus did not land on the U.S. mainland. He landed on an

island in the Caribbean. While many believe he landed on San Salvador, there

is still debate on which island he originally landed on.

Sandwich Day November 3

We invite you to bite into your favorite sandwich, for today is Sandwich

Day. The sandwich is truly a great creation. Sandwiches are a daily luncheon

staple for millions of Americans.

The Creation of the Sandwich:

The annals of English history report that John Montagu was the 4th Earl of

Sandwich. Among other things, the 4th Earl of Sandwich was a heavy gam-

bler. Montagu often spent many long hours in London's gambling parlors. In

1762, he created the sandwich, by putting meat between two pieces of

bread. This allowed him to remain at the gambling table for long periods of

time. Obviously, the sandwich was named after him

Celebrate this special day by eating sandwiches at every meal! Consume your

favorite sandwich. Better yet, be bold and daring..... try a new sandwich!

Are You a Candidate for Suspension?

There is a real potential of losing several members due to non-payment of dues. This would be quite a blow to the Valley of Stockton.

We loose many members to death each year, but to lose several more to suspension would have an adverse affect on our Valley.

Perhaps some members still do not realize how the system works. Several years ago, the Supreme Council started to mail out dues

statements to the members. It is up to members to return payment using the enclosed envelope to the Valley, come to the office and pay directly

or use the online payment system at www.scottishrite.org. The office will immediately issue you your new dues card.

After three notices you become delinquent in your dues. After two years of non-payment a member is subject to suspension

We understand that sometimes monetary circumstances cause a problem with dues payments. I welcome your phone calls or emails at

any time and will do whatever I can to help. We do not want to suspend anyone but please help by letting us know.

A Message From The Ladies…….

By the time you receive this the Ladies Luncheon will be over. It was, as in the past, a very pleasant after-noon. Special thanks go to the ladies who decorated tables, made salads and raffle baskets and sold tick-ets. It is a great deal of work for the few active mem-bers. We appreciate those who assisted in making this a success. Our group will be resting on our lau-rels until the time for the Easter Breakfast. We have been investigating replacing the carpet in the Ladies Lounge and the hallway. It is such a mess (the car-pet). JR spends an inordinate time cleaning it after rentals. Our choices would be stained cement or tile. Because of the high amount of traffic in that area we need to purchase a commercial grade of tile. The costs are much greater than we had hoped. This project will have to go on the back burn-er for now. We will continue to meet on the first Wednesday after dinner. You are always welcome to join us.

Bethel No. 83 News

Bethel No. 83 has had a very busy last two months planning for the Associate Grand Guardian, Mr. Rob Boswell’s

reception. Thank you everyone who made this such a wonderful day for Mr. Boswell. Our girls are now busy plan-

ning for our yard sale that will be held at Mrs. Hilda Walker’s house at 3055 West Princeton Avenue on

October 5th from 8-1. If you have any items that you would like to donate please contact

Our girls are also busy planning for their Omelet Breakfast on
