RotaryandPeaceRotary International’s stated purpose is to bringt o g e t h e r b u s i n e s s a n dprofessional leaders to providehumanitarianservices, encouragehigh ethical standards in allvocations, and to advancegoodwill and peace around theworld. The month of FebruarybringsRotary’sfocusonPeace&ConflictPrevention/Resolution.Sixtymillionpeoplearedisplacedbyarmedconflictorpersecution,and90percent of armed-conflictcasualties are civilians, half ofthem children. Through serviceprojects, fellowships, and other Rotary-sponsoredcampaigns, members train adults and youngleaders to prevent and mediate conflict, and aidrefugeeswhohavefleddangerousareas.Membersalso pursue projects to address the underlyingstructural causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tension, lack of access toeducation, andunequaldistributionofresources. Each year, Rotary awardsup to 50fellowshipsformaster’sdegrees and 50 for certificate studies atpremieruniversitiesaroundtheworld.
• Master’s degree programs: Last 15 to 24monthsandrequireapracticalinternshipoftwo to threemonthsduring the academicbreak.
• Professional development certificateprogram: For experienced professionalsand lasts threemonthswith two to threeweeksoffieldstudy.
These fellowships cover tuition andfees, room and board, round-triptransportation, and all internship andfield-study expenses. In just over adecade, the Rotary Peace Centershave trainedmore than 1,000 fellows
