The school year has gotten off to a great start. We welcomed over 1,500 students on August 8th with Link Crew activities for our freshmen and an assembly for our upperclassmen. Our focus always has been and always will be to prepare our students for what lies ahead. Careers are constantly changing in our economy. That is why we offer rigorous core classes and a wide range of electives. Our students and staff members place high expectations on themselves and that is why Moon Valley is such a success. It is also why our school vision remains: Preparing each student for higher education by ensuring that all students reaches their full potential in every class. We also know that our students need to use high school as their career platform. They know that once they leave our walls they will be in a competitive job market. That is why we encourage and educate our students in getting involved in some type of higher education, which could include career and technical education, military service, community college or university. We work to bring this vision into action by focusing our efforts in these areas: An Action Plan (The Route of a Rocket) with specific programs and focus for each grade level. Four-year plans for each student, beginning freshman year, with a focus on reaching post-secondary goals. Offering intervention classes for freshmen to encourage their success in the areas of reading, writing, and math. Raising the rigor in all classes to better prepare students for higher education. UNI 101 College Club on campus to get students talking and learning about higher education. Increased focus on college and career exams (such as ACT, SAT and ASVAB). From the Desk of Principal Salyer

Parents, Students, Staff and Community Members,

Welcome back! The school year has gotten off to a great start. We welcomed over 1,500 students on

August 8th with Link Crew activities for our freshmen and an assembly for our upperclassmen.

We work to bring this vision into action by focusing our efforts in these areas:

An Action Plan (The Route of a Rocket) with specific programs and focus for each grade level.

All our juniors have the opportunity to take the ACT and ASVAB exams for free!

Coordinate college visits and tours.

Being responsible sometimes means making tough, unpopular decisions —- Pat Summitt

The BLAST Center is located in Building 5 in the center of campus and is open for students before and after school.

Students can also receive breakfast or a snack after working for fifteen minutes.

Moon Valley’s NJROTC team took first and second place in all three categories of the Office of Naval Research’s SEAPERCH competition. Seniors Gabriel Aviles and Nathaniel Jackson took overall first place after speeding to first place finishes in the Speed Run, Retrieval, and Obstacle Course competitions. In an impressive show of team depth Moon Valley’s other two teams comprised of Seniors Lynnisha Jones and Alyssa Petty, Sophomores Sara Al-Haidar, Osborn Buttino, Kealie Faulkenbury, Team Commander Joshua Spahn and Kekoa Viet took second place overall after locking up second place finishes in all categories and a third place in the Speed Run.

SEAPERCH are remotely operated submersible watercraft which are built by the students. They are part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and

Math initiative supported by the United States Navy. During the process they learn about circuits, measurements, hand tools, soldering, wiring, ballast, buoyancy, aerodynamics, and teamwork. Their attention to detail, brain-storming, problem solving, practice and experimentation all contributed to their success.
