Teen Videofest,is a contest challenging Tarrant County youth, ages 13 – 19, to produce videos
aboutimportant teen health issues
with 569 video entries submitted
from 1999 to 2006.
Teen Videofest
Purpose:
Inform & educate
youth about important
health issues.
Important teenhealth issues*:1. Poor eating habits
2. Physical inactivity
3. Tobacco use
4. Behaviors leading to injury
5. Abuse of alcohol and other drugs
6. Sexual behaviors resulting in HIV, STDs or unintended pregnancy *Source:

How Teen Videofest works:
1. Announcements in Dec. & Jan.
2. Workshops in Jan. & Feb.
3. Registration & tape distribution
4. Camera & editing assistance, if needed
5. Judging rounds & scoring
6. Scores tallied, top 3 in each category selected as finalists
7. Finalists showcased at Awards Night

• Three categories (mental health,
physical health and public service announcements)
• Special recognition for middle school participants
• Workshops offer overview, technical tips, a look at prior winners and topic ideas
• Minimal adult involvement

Roles of an Adult Sponsor:
• Serve as a contact person for teams
• Provide guidance for participants
• Assure that participants have a project timeline and remain on task
• Assure that all participants complete and return all registration and consent forms
Additional Roles:
• Provide any needed technical assistance, which may include
editing
• Assure that any winning team members attend the Awards Night Event
