General Advice:

● DO NOT buy a pole you’ll get one from your fishing starter quests.

● DO NOT buy any skills other than Novice from the trainer to start with, you’ll get your first lure from the fishing starter quests.

● Get Survival while you’re at it. If you don’t have survival then the vast majority of the fish you catch are for nothing.

● Fishing and Survival trainers are in every zone right next to the repeatable faction quest fish NPC. The only exception to this is Ember Island. The trainers for this zone are only in the neutral city of Ember Watch.

● Fishing and Survival DO NOT COUNT towards you 3 profession cap.

● Fishing now has a visible mouse icon when you mouse over areas.

No FishingRare Fishing Area

● The tool tip for each fish now has info on the depth and area that the fish is found in. This includes fish in crafting windows, not just the ones in your bags!

● By doing the quest Fishing Lessons from Trena (Defiant) or the quest Fishing Lessons from Murin Remor (Guardian) you will get a pole. Doing the subsequent quests given by the NPC you are sent to you will learn the difference between shallow and deep waters and you will get the lure recipe. If you got a pole and a the lure from the trainer, don’t worry, you can still do the quest. The quest is to use a lure, not to use the recipe.

● The first thing you successfully fish up will be junk, as will the second most likely. You can get skill ups from reeling in junk however. You chance for a skill up from a junk item is roughly equivalent to that of the common fish of the same area.

● Rumors that you can not catch junk using a Lucky Pole are untrue. The Chance of doing so is just less.

● Sometimes you have to click multiple times to reel in your fish. DO NOT do so automatically. You should only click when the “Reel it in!” icon comes up. If you click any other time you cancel your fishing.

● Shallow water is water you can walk in. Deep water is water you have to swim in. More often than not you have to stand on a dock, rocks or other debris to fish in deep water, but in some areas you can reach deep water from the shoreline if you cast long. Also check your tool tip for shallow vs. deep water.

● Put your fishing pole on your hotbar. It not only makes it easier to cast, but easier to reel in, as you can just hit your hotbar key bind to reel in, rather than clicking with your mouse.

● Using a lure prevents you from reeling in junk.

● Fish stack in stacks of 99.

● You do not need a crafting station to make items in Fishing or Survival.

● If your pole has a lure active on it you can not craft it into the next pole.

● Each zone also has collections of Trophy (artifact) fish of that zone. There are also new collections of things you find while fishing in general.

● Fishing counts towards harvesting, so now all you manufacture crafters can get those harvesting achievements!

● Water in instances matches the zone in which the instance is found. For instance, Foul Cascade waters (even in expert) are level 90.

● At Kelari Refuge and Argent Glade you will see two faction quests. By collecting a specific number of fish you can then turn these fish in and get rewards. Others zones also have faction quests.

● The rewards are a zone faction specific Major Fishing Award or a mystery box (tackle box) that has random items, including fishing related items and artifacts.

● Major Fishing Awards give 250 rep to the relevant faction.

● You can get non fish related things (other than junk) from fishing, such as artifacts and crates that contain random items and money. The higher you skills is verses the zone level the more likely you are to loot such things.

● The likely hood of gaining skill from a successful cast is approximately the same as any other crafting node in the zone you are in. At a skill level of 5 you’ll get a lot of skill ups from casting in Freemarch. At a skill level of 45 those skill ups come slower from Freemarch. However after about 210 skill the chance that you will gain skill from a cast is more lower than at previous level at an orange water.

● Shoreward Island offers no special fishing quests, items or rewards. It offers fish approximately the same level as Freemarch and Silverwood. The same is true for the lake you get teleported to in Shimmersand, except that it has Shimmersand level fish.

● The rumor that all salt water yields the same fish is UNTRUE. Fish tables are based on zone level. (Apparently Shoreward Island is a lvl 1 zone). Lake of Solace has been given a 120 skill level to fish, and has a table that is a combination of the fishing tables of the zones around it.

● Lures have limited upgrades as you progress in skill. The final lure is only available from high end tackle boxes. Lures are used the same was as other temp armor enchants.

Fishing Achievements

● After catching 100 fish you get the achievement “Apprentice Fisherman” After catching 500 fish you get the achievement “Journeyman Fisherman”. After catching 1000 fish you get the achievement “Dedicated Fisherman”. After catching 5,000 fish you get the “Artisan Fisherman” achievement. After 10,000 fish you get the achievement of “Supreme Fisherman” and a title of the same.

● The “Apprentice Fisherman” achievement grants you the suffix title of Fisherman. There is no Fisherwoman title.

● You get suffix crafting titles for fishing the same way you do for other crafts. These titles are “Novice/Skilled/Expert/Master Angler”.

● The “Rare/r/ist Catch” achievement requires that you catch 5/10/all rare fish. By completing this you get a Red - Eyed Tree Frog companion pet.

These lure are meant to catch a specific fish, as their name states. This includes all kinds of fish, from common to rare. The icons for these lures are nothing special, and because there are many new lures I will not be including the icons at the moment and am not likely to ever do so.

Basic Fish Lures require only common fish, Advanced Fish Lures requite common and uncommon fish. Please note these these are my own divisions that I use to make tracking the lures more simple, not ones they use int he game (but you totally have my permission to adopt my terms Devs, so long as I get an awesome fishing.) Each lure helps you catch the fish it is named after and lasts for 90 seconds. Lures have no effect if you are fishing in a place where that fish is not on the table (No Normal-Eyed Guppies from Shimmersand in other words)

You can not stack lures, one will overwrite the other. Do not use these lure in rare fishing areas, as the rare fishing area will over write the lure and make it a waste of mats.

Non-Repeatable Fishing Quests

At the moment the game has only five non-repeatable fishing quests. Four are your fishing starter quests, and one is found in Scarlet Gorge next to the repeatable fishing quest NPC for your faction.

Freemarch/Silverwood Fishing Quests:

11

I’ve already said it, but it does with repeating:

● DO NOT buy a pole you’ll get one from your fishing starter quests.

● DO NOT buy any skills other than Novice from the trainer to start with, you’ll get your first lure from the fishing starter quests.

All my pictures are from the Defiant side of things, but I’ve been assured that the text is all the same, it’s just the locations of the NPCs that are different.

This quest series starts off in you faction’s home city, at the fishing trainer.

Guardians should go to Murin Remor in the Argent Glade in Silverwood. Just go talk to who you are directed to and you get you’re very first fishing pole! Shallow Water Fishing gives you a pole upgrade.

12

The next quest teaches you deep water vs. shallow water. You also get a yummy scrummy survival recipe by completing this quest! It’s a neat little food that gives a non-combat run speed buff.

After that is the final newbie quest, which teaches you how to use lures. You get the recipe for Irresistible

Water Snail . PLEASE NOTE! That even if you learned the lure recipe from the trainer (despite repeated warnings in the guide! Silly person) you can still do the quest. The quest is to use the lure, not to learn it.

Scarlet Gorge Fishing Quests:

All my pictures are from the Defiant side of things, but I’ve been assured that the text is all the same, it’s just the locations of the NPCs that are different.

You get a decent food from this quest. It would be great for leveling, but sadly requires a green fish, so it’s a bit rare to make. Also, do not use a lure with the toxic pools! Many people have reported that they do not get the quest fish when they use a lure.

First, take the river up (for Defiant) or south (for Guardians). Stop and fish at any pools along the way! Once you get near the Demon Steps go to the road and hop on the elevator:

There are 3 pools to fish from, remember, don’t use a lure to fish int he toxic pools!

Rare Fishing Areas

The rare fishing areas now look like schools of fish. They have a sparkle effect over them (like the ones found over quest items) to make them more identifiable. You get around 5 casts for each school of fish/sunken boat.

1. School of Common Fish - Works similar to a Fish Lure . Most common, about an 80% chance to find one

2. School of Rare Fish - You only catch blue and green fish from them - about 15% spawn chance. Works like a Rare Fish Lure

3. School of Clever Fish - Increases your rate of Fishing skill-up while you fish in it - about 5% chance to spawn

4. Sunken Boat - 100% artifact drops can be both normal and fishing artifacts - about 5% chance to spawn, works like the artifact lures .

In some areas they also block deep water, just fish the school out if that happens, if should take around 5 fish to make it disappear, it can take a moment for it to poof some times. This may be a bug.

They can be found in all zones that have fishing, and look the same in all zones. Rare, Common and Clever schools look alike from outside of the water. But if you look under water you can see a difference. Sunken Boat looks like...well, a boat:

The maps for each zone assume that you are aware of the fact that oceans and large ponds are fishable. I am highlighting the smaller areas that people may miss, and hard to find deep water areas. Therefor I will only have maps for places that have hard to find fish areas...so, no map for Ember Island for instance, ‘cause...you know...it’s an island. If you can’t find a place to fish on an island, well...

FreemarchFaction Repeatable quest is located at: Kelari Refuge from Xelos

Min skill level needed for zone: 1

Freemarch fishing is a great way to start. While you’re here make sure to get at least 10 additional Smooth Minnow and Forest Pondleeper (to make lures) in addition to what you need for Survival.

The simplest way to level fishing in Freemarch to to fish at Kelari Refuge. You have Deep and Shallow water there as well as the NPC for your repeatable quest fish turn-ins.

KEEP IN MIND that by doing quests and dungeons most people get maxed Freemarch Wardens rep before they are out of the zone, or shortly after, so go for the tackle box. The repeatable faction quest fish can be turned in for 250 Freemarch Wardes rep.

StonefieldFaction Repeatable quest is located at: Granite Falls from Sualuune

Min skill level needed for zone: 40

The best palce to fish in this zone is around Granite Falls, right near the repeatable fish quest NPC. You can even fish off the deck right next to her. This offers easy access to deep and shallow water.

The two lure fish int his zone are Echidna Fish and Lesser Crystalfish. I advise catching about 60 of these fish for lures, in addition to what you need to level up survival. While these fish do prevent you from getting artifacts it seams that artifacts are rare to fish up unless the zone is green or grey, so you may as well skip them when leveling up and get more fish for survival.

KEEP IN MIND that by doing quests and dungeons most people get maxed Granite Falls rep before they are out of the zone, or shortly after, so go for the tackle box. The repeatable faction quest fish can be turned in for 250 Granite Falls rep.

The best palce to fish in this zone is around Gloamwood Pines, right near the repeatable fish quest NPC. This offers easy access to both deep and shallow water.

KEEP IN MIND that by doing quests and dungeons most people get maxed Gloamwood Waykeeps rep before they are out of the zone, or shortly after, so go for the tackle box. The repeatable faction quest fish can be turned in for 250 Gloamwood Waykeeps rep.

Scarlet GorgeFaction Repeatable quest is located at: Jayne at Crimsion Wash and Wash south of Scarwood Lift Base

Min skill level needed for zone: 90

As annoying as it is to fish in water at the Riverfell Waterfall this is the best place to do so.It has the fish needed for the artifact lure. I advise making this lure with what ever amount of these fish you happen to catch, but DO NOT use the lure until you have maxed out your skill. The higher your base skill the more likely you are to get an artifact.

Scarwood ReachFaction Repeatable quest is located at: Sonsa in Kain’s Command and Ariea in Perspice

Min skill level needed for zone: 90

I recommend fishing at Keenblade Mill. It has deep and shallow water that is easily accessible, even if it is not near the repeatable fish quest NPC.

This zone also has a lure fish. It is a bit hard to find, but it is a good lure. This lure increases your chance of finding artifacts when fishing. I advise making this lure with what ever amount of these fish you happen to catch, but DO NOT use the lure until you have maxed out your skill. The higher your base skill the more likely you are to get an artifact to start with.

Lake of Solace

Min skill level needed for zone: 120

This is a bit of an odd zone for fishing. It has fish that your normally find in Freemarch, Droughtlands and Shimmersand, but at a unique minimum skill level. It’s level of usefulness is debatable, but it could be a nice way to store up fish for specific food or lures you want. You can fish in any spot in this zone and get fish from any other of the three zones.

This zone has no repeatable faction NPC unique tot he zone, but you can get the fish needed for those quests in Freemarch, Droughtlands and Shimmersand.

StillmoorFaction Repeatable quest is located at: Kalden at the Zareph’s Return

Min skill level needed for zone: 215

Stillmoor is a hard to fish area. High level mobs and only two small fishing areas. Unless you are here to get faction from the Order of Mathos I would avoid it at this time. Even the food you can make from the fish of this zone can be found elsewhere. However two unique fish in this zone do not have a use yet, so it could be useful, we just don’t know yet. So if you don’t need Order of Mathos faction just skip it and go onto Shimmersand.

This section is of all known artifact sets that have been added for fishing. Please note that some old artifact sets sound like they would be a set related to fishing, but are not. The items in theses sets can only be found by fishing or in tackle boxes, as opposed to sets that can be found by other ways.

The zone location for some artifacts may change with time. What we thought were zone specific may turn out to be Any Zone. So, with the exception of the sets specifically named after a zone, please keep that in mind.

Also note that the artifact names are given in order of left to right, so that they match the picture.
